So this video has been requested quite a few times by left handed people. In this video I show how a lefty would complete my free ""simple Gothic"" practice sheets. Even though I am not a lefty I show the angle and directions of constructing letterforms. Step by step I go through how to hold the pencils, to basic strokes to letter formation. Please let me know if I missed something.
Video Breakdown:

Hello everyone, glad you could make it. Welcome back to another Clue Studio tutorial, and today we'll be doing left-handed black letter play.
now
Getting a lot of comments saying hey, you should like make a left-handed video, and I want to make sure make this very clear
I'm a righty
But I'm gonna try to mimic what a left-handed person would do so you get to laugh along
How bad my left hand it is and if you're new to this and left-handed you'll probably do better, so
I have practice sheets made up before
These are the free version that you can get online if you subscribe to the email list which sends
Freebies and ideas and email if you're into that you can unsubscribe at any time
And let's go into it. Okay, so lefties now
Once you get your pencil at an even
Length you can hold it at 45 degrees
now that means
Not like this you want to have them parallel like this so you can see them
And you want to
Hold it at 45 which means
45 from the baseline so whatever your line you're writing on you want to be able to go out away from it at a
45
You're gonna be holding it at that 45 no twisting it at any time the whole time
And if you maintain that you can have different sorts of shapes based on which direction you're going so if I go up
Or if I go left
And like a medium thickness stroke now if I go down to the
And if you go down to the right
You at 45 you get your stick
So depending on the direction you go
You'll get a different stroke, and that's what black letters based on so what we're gonna. Do is
So what we're gonna. Do is do one letter from each family as I call it of letters
Starting with a which is a basic letter
So you want to start at the bottom at your 45?
You want to do your thickest stroke so at the 45?
I'm gonna go up most of the way you want to go over at your thinnest stroke up to the top line
Down straight
Down to the right
And that's approximately what your a should look like now if I was to do the right
It's easier for me
That's kind of what you want it to look like
But that's how you or you do it for a lefty
So next one is the next family is the ascender the ascender is any letter that goes
Above
Your face
Less an F is one of them L is simpler, but we're gonna try to do a more complex way, so
You want to start at the bottom
Down actually down to the baseline over at your thickest
Pretty much stop about one
Down to the right
Connect that one one side of the pencil and then for your crossbar
That's your F
Next and next family is the descenders, which is
Gj anything that goes below that line ascender descender
Now basically just an a with a really long down
And
See if you get anything like this that means your pencils are
Missing a lot, so you want to make sure just to kind of fix it a little bit sure
Press against the table so that you know they're relatively straight. I'm gonna try that again
Down
Gee
Now the fourth family is the oddballs, this is s K X the ones that don't really
They don't really follow many of the rules they just kind of and they're more complex generally
I find s is the hardest letter with this alphabet, so
I'm gonna try to demonstrate that
Practice
You want to start below the middle
I
Don't like fracture right now
I'm gonna try to go in the direction of the lefty, but as a righty just so you can get a better
You
It's also handy that we're using a pencil here because as a lefty
I don't know exactly how you would not smudge it if you're using it. I think you actually hold it off the table a little bit
Which would be very even more difficult. I don't know I can do it
And that's it so with your practice sheets that you can get online
Download them try it out
And let me know how it goes if this was sufficient as a lefty video let me know I'm always open to Chris
Thanks for watching
