Fireworks are often stressful for pets, but there are ways to help.
Here's our top tips.
1. Keep your pets at home where it's safe.
Stay home, don't leave them alone.
2. Minimize outside noise.
Keep doors, windows and curtains closed.
Loud TV or music will help distract your pets.
3. Use therapeutic products.
Your pet may benefit from calming therapeutic products.
Speak to your vet for more guidance.
4. Make sure their microchip details are up to date.
During the fireworks, pets often try to run away.
If that happens, they are much more likely to be reunited with you if they have up-to-date details.
5. Walk your dog and close the cat flat before it gets dark.
Again, this is to stop escapes.
Once the noise starts, they may bolt.
6. Provide them with somewhere to hide.
Keep doors, windows and curtains closed.
Just make sure it's in hearing distance of your loud TV or music.
7. If they seem unsettled, try to play with them.
Use their favourite toy or game, and if they seem to want attention, give it.
If they are settled and calm, praise them or give them a treat.
Here's one more top tip.
If there's still at least a month before fireworks, you can try sound therapy.
This is where you gradually expose pets to recordings of firework sounds at a low volume,
then slowly raise the volume over weeks or months.
This helps teach them that the noises aren't dangerous.
With a little care, you can help them get through the fireworks season calmly.
