My name is Lil Asmar. I'm 10 years old and I live in South Plainfield, New Jersey.
If you don't know my name, just look at my hat. I've been playing the bass for three years.
Playing my bass is the best feeling in the world. It just makes me in my own world.
Lil Asmar, that's me. And you got Big Asmar, my dad. Me and my dad love playing the bass
together. Sometimes we like go back and forth.
As a single father, my favorite times in life is hanging out with my son.
We joke around a lot. He'll take what I show him and just go bonkers with it. Like his fingering
is out of this world. He'll do a triple beat on a single count.
Mr. Steve Harvey, can't wait to meet you. Plus, I got a special song for you.
Give it up, Lil Asmar. What's up, little man? How you feeling?
You look good. Come on. My man, Lil Asmar, how you doing? Good. Good. So what got you into
playing the bass? Got me into playing the bass with my dad. I was hearing him playing the bass
and I asked him, can you teach me how to play the bass? And he started laughing
because the bass is bigger than me. So is that your dad over there? Yes.
Well, dad, little boy on TV, man. See, you got a father love you that much. You know how big that
is? That's so big. That's so big. Dad, did you think he'd get this good so soon? No, not really.
He thinks he's better than me now. You think you're better than your dad now? Yes. A thousand
times. A thousand times? Better than dad? Yeah. I bet he don't care. I bet you that. I want all
my kids to be better than me. That's what I want. Ain't gonna happen, but that's what I want.
Play me a little something. Get your guitar, man. Show me a little something.
This is for you, Mr. Steve Harvey. Cool. It's called the Asmar 5. You wrote this? Yes. This
something to show you. You got something to show me? Yeah. I want you to sign my bass.
You want me to sign your bass? Yes. Who else signed this? Mr. Harry Connick Jr.
Harry Connick Jr.? Where did he sign it? Right there. I'm signing on top of him.
Boy, let me show you something. See, I'm left-handed, too, so...
Look at that signature, boy. Nice. That's nice. Congratulations, man. Y'all want to hear Asmar?
All right, everybody. He's years old. He's only been playing the bass for three years.
Folks, make some noise for Lil' Asmar.
