I Let the Library Choose My Books for a Week | Cozy Reading Vlog & Book Haul

Hi guys, welcome back to my channel. If you're new here my name is Jasmine. I'm so happy you're here. Today we are doing a very exciting video. The library is choosing what I read this week. So excited you have no idea. At this rate I'm reading a chapter in 10 minutes. I'm an avid library user. I use the Libby app. I use the Hoopla app. I constantly have books on hold at my library and the library is literally like down the road from where I live. So like I constantly frequent that place. Me and the library, we're besties. As I said, today's video is the library chooses what I read for the next week. So today is Tuesday. I actually started reading my books yesterday. The first book that became available from the library, which we are going to be reading them in order as they came available from the library, and actually two of the books came available literally at the same time. So the first book is Demon with Benefits. This is a part of the Hellbent series. I have never read any of the other books. I think there's two or three books before this one. I'm really hoping that it's not a major like problem that I haven't read the first ones. This follows our two main characters Iris who's a witch and Meth who is a demon who escaped hell. He escaped the um corrupt queen of hell I think is how they worded it and I just figured that out in the end towards the end of the second chapter because I was like he's a demon but I didn't know why he wasn't in hell if that makes sense. And then Iris really really really does not like Meth, doesn't like the demons living in the real world and it's actually her twin sister who's the reason that all these demons are living in the real world now. So you get a little bit of snippet on that but I haven't gotten a lot of backstory on that yet so I'm kind of unclear as to the story. Obviously those probably came in prior books but we're making do. That's kind of all I know so far. I'm on chapter three and then the second book that I just started I actually am reading on the Hoopla app which is called Kindling by Bonnie Woods. I'll insert a picture here this is what it looks like. It's the first book in the Scottish Spice series but it's based in Scotland. The main character Harper she lost her job she's trying to bounce back from a breakup and she books this Airbnb in the middle of nowhere in the Scottish wilderness and the Airbnb host is like hey I have to cancel like she gets all the way there and then the Airbnb host is like hey I gotta cancel like there's so much going on here you are unable to stay here I'll refund you and everything and then he like sends her on her way and so she's just like kind of wandering through the woods by herself has no idea what she's doing where she's going and she sees this cabin and it starts pouring down rain so she tries to climb over the fence to get to this cabin because she's like I need shelter I need to go like I need to find help and then she stumbles upon the male main character. The male main character's name is Fraser so she stumbles into Fraser's property and he's like kind of standing there like what are you doing like why are you on my property and he offers her to go inside so that they can dry off because now they're both like sopping wet and everything because he came over because she was literally trespassing um and that's where I kind of finished off with that that's all I've gotten to so far. The third and final book that I hope to get to in this video is called Let's Give Them Pumpkin to Talk About and I don't know if you can tell by how cute this cover is this screams fall and then if you pair it with this book are you kidding me I'm so excited you have no idea this one I literally just got because of the cover I mean can you blame me the cover is so cute this one's definitely a grumpy sunshine as well so from what I've gathered since reading the back of the book because I didn't actually read what the book was about before I put it on hold but this one from what I've gathered she comes back to her hometown to live with her dad and help with his pumpkin patch and this horde of hogs literally destroys her pumpkin patch which leads her to needing help from the neighbor who is this tech millionaire billionaire whatever guy he retires to the countryside and he also has a pumpkin patch of his own she's trying to win the Indiana State Fairs pumpkin contest so in order to do that she has to receive the help from her neighbor and he is all like sunshine good vibes everything's gonna be fine and she cannot for the life of her understand why he is drawn to her because she is very much like get away from me in a bad mood very grumpy you know the whole gist but I have yet to start this one I don't think I'm going to start this one until I finish at least one of the other two because now I have started both kindling and demon with benefits so I think we're just going to read for a little bit and see how much further I can get into it I will see you guys when we are reading hi guys good evening I need to turn this down a little bit I did say good evening why are you judging me I am an adult I can say mature things um anyway I'm sitting in my room and we're watching a fall I don't know if you can see this hold on look at this it's a beautiful background it's like night two or three in a row that I've been setting the ambience of like a fall background because here in South Carolina it's still 80 degrees every day and it's I miss the fall okay I miss fully embracing the fall so I'm literally watching a video of it raining with a fireplace and it looks super cozy actually Alex I think you'd be obsessed with this view anyway I was coming on here to give you guys a book update you probably don't care about the rest but first and foremost I had to ask my mom and my brother and we're still undecided on this well because it's important to my okay let me clarify this I didn't know what first second or third bases were and I know everybody has like a different interpretation of that for themselves but anyway I was reading chapter four of this book and I don't know if it was second or third base they didn't go all the way but they definitely got there close and it was only in chapter four of this book I was not expecting it it was very thrown off it wasn't like completely thrown out of left field like they were kind of building up to it but at the same time it was like only being built up for maybe two or three pages prior to it actually happening and then the whole thing kind of happened in like two pages and then the guy dipped and and now we're like in the aftermath and I'm kind of like what is happening what is happening in this book I'm so confused like I'm still trying to figure out if I'm gonna even continue to read this book I don't know I'm on chapter five I think hold on no I'm on chapter six um as for my other book that I'm reading kindling I am on chapter three of that book we're finally introduced to the male main character I don't know if I said that in one of my last updates but his name is Frazier I'm just happy that we were finally introduced to the male main character because we were like three chapters in and we hadn't been introduced to them and I'm so used to like in romance books you know who the main characters are within the first two chapters but this one I was like thrown off I originally thought that the male main character in this book was the guy who was hosting her in his Airbnb but that's actually not the person and we didn't meet the male main character until chapter three I don't know maybe that's just like I don't know I listen I don't I don't know what to expect but anyway I don't know how much reading I'm gonna do I'm like halfway through chapter six on this I kind of want to read to chapter eight I think that would be a good goal and then I at least want to get to chapter like five but I've been so tired recently I haven't been able to like actually stay up late and read which I read the most in the evening so my endeavor of like this whole the library chooses what I read for a week is kind of humbling me because I am falling very very behind and also to make matters worse today I got a text message actually I shouldn't say to make matters worse because I actually really like getting text messages from the library it's like Christmas but I got another text message from the library saying that three more books that I put on hold are available to go and pick up um in my defense one of those books I actually got for my mom and then the second book kind of teeters 50 50 that I would read and my mom would read so I was actually being a good daughter I just want to put that out there anyway I'm gonna shut up now and read Alex you're so mean okay anyway deuces let's get to reading hi guys good morning welcome back I have another update I am halfway through chapter 10 these chapters are so long so I feel discouraged because I'm like I feel like I'm barely making any progress I'm just shy of halfway through this book I feel like I've been reading it forever but I also haven't been reading it for that long because I haven't had a lot of time to read which I'm beginning to realize I kind of probably put myself into a sticky situation when I said I was going to do a week-long reading vlog thinking that I had all this time in the world and I'm like where's the time going because I am barely making a dent in these books that I'm reading but anyway I have some updates I like the two characters I still don't really know much about either one like I still feel like I'm not super connected to either character I'm just kind of along for the ride and it's like you're kind of just watching it play out in front of you usually by this point I feel like by about 50% of the way through a book you should be feeling some sort of a connection with the characters that you're reading about and I have like zero connection with these characters which is also I think partially why I'm like do I want to keep reading this I keep like teetering back and forth of whether or not I actually want to keep reading because I hate dnfing a book like I literally put it off so much I refuse to dnf a book unless I absolutely cannot stand it it cannot keep my attention or whatever but this still holds my attention I'm just not connected to the characters you know what I mean like there's a lot I'm gonna be honest if you like a spicy book like there's a lot of spice or that it just references sex a lot like there's a lot of that in this book and we're only not even 50% of the way through the book um and you're not really getting a lot of feelings you don't really know what people are thinking or how they're feeling and I just I don't know I think what I've decided it is if I make it to the 50% mark so I'm gonna say like chapter 12 I think is the 50% mark if I make it to chapter 12 and I still am not like I just don't get what the point of the book is like I don't understand what they're trying to overcome I don't and maybe I'm just like too detached at this point that I'm not seeing the pieces being put together but again we're like fast approaching 50% of the way through this book and I feel like I don't understand what the point of it is they keep hooking up and that's all I can tell I've not I don't hate the characters like I don't dislike any of them I just don't feel connected to any of them so yeah I'm gonna give myself until chapter 12 and if I don't like the book any more than I do now I think I'm gonna set it down put it to the side and I'm gonna pick up let's give them pumpkin to talk about because this seems like a very easy simple read that I could probably finish reading in a couple hours like it's less than 300 pages long I feel like I could really bust this one out but anyway that's where my thoughts are I'm gonna keep reading see if I can make any more progress see if I can change my opinion but if not I may just be starting a new book today and that's okay too how many pages do I have oh ---- I'm definitely not gonna be able to finish this I don't know if I want to finish this guys I think I'm just not gonna finish it or at least I'm gonna set it aside and I'm gonna start reading something else because I think if I can read something else that actually has my holds my attention a little bit more I think I'd be happier I don't know I don't want to like fully discredit this but I think I need to put this one down because I'm just not feeling it right now and I don't know if I'm going to feel it I don't know if I'm going to come back to it but I'm setting this one down I'm just not just not feeling it so I'm setting this one down and then I am going to start let's give them pumpkin to talk about and I'm going to keep reading kindling and hopefully I can have an update for you guys later tonight but I'm excited this one looks cute I'm hoping for just a cute easy enjoyable fast-paced read because that one was not doing it for me not doing it this one just might I have high hopes so anyway I'll give you guys an update a little bit later because I have to go hi guys I feel like I was in this exact same spot when I gave you my last update which was me dnfing demon with benefits and then the other book that I was reading was kindling and I've only made it to chapter three and I don't want to continue reading it and it's not because I don't think that the book is good or that I don't think the book has potential to be good because you're still in such a new like you're still at the beginning like chapter three is still very much the beginning of the book you're still setting up the foundation you're still kind of being seemed like a very cozy fall read and I thought that I could enjoy it I don't want to say full dnf for that one but I'm I'm gonna say dnf for now but I do have intentions to go back to it because I still have the physical book put on hold at the library rather than what I have currently which is the digital so dnf for right now until the physical book becomes available at the library and I'm going to try again and see if I have a different opinion or if I reach the same benchmark and I'm like no I don't want to continue then it'll be a full dnf but the third book that I was actually very excited about which is let's give them pumpkin to talk about I will be continuing to read this I have like an hour so I'm going to sit down and I'm going to read and see how far into this I can get I'm hoping that I can read another 50 pages at least and get like a good halfway mark in this book to really see am I gonna finish it am I gonna like it what's going on I really don't have any issues with either of the characters so I'm gonna sit down and read some more and see if I can give you guys a more in-depth update I'm gonna set a timer and we're gonna read for the next 30 minutes I'm starting on page 59 and I will report back to you what page I get to chapter six at this rate I'm reading a chapter in 10 minutes chapter seven hi guys I want to come on here and give you guys an update on let's go and pumpkin to talk about I just finished this like five minutes ago sorry can you hear my fan let me turn that off sorry it's a lot louder than I anticipated so I just finished this book like five minutes ago and I'm not even gonna lie to you the last like 50 pages the last like 30 pages I was like okay this could be wrapped up a little bit more like yeah there were some sweet moments and some heartfelt moments I don't think I was as invested in this book as I normally would be in a romance and I'm not gonna lie to you I've never done this before in a romance book ever but I literally skimmed the last chapter and I skimmed the epilogue like I barely read it I was really only reading like the the talking parts where they were communicating back and forth but like the inner thoughts and dialogue and narration I was skimming over I was not reading because I just wanted to be done with this book like this book was less than 300 pages and I think there was a good like five or six chapters where I was really invested and I really was liking the story and the characters and everything and I don't think that I disliked the characters I just I don't feel anything towards the story I'm gonna have to rate this probably like I don't want to rate it super low but I'm like my initial instinct was to rate it like a two and a half star I feel like that's really mean um I would say maybe between a two and a half and a three star read like this is not something that I would gravitate towards um I think the pumpkin on the cover gives it a nice like fall themed feel to it but honestly the cover doesn't really do much like yeah it's about growing pumpkins and a pumpkin competition and everything but like there's literally no other fall vibes in this book which I guess was my own fault because maybe I just like assumed because the the cover seemed very fall that we would get more fall vibes but no it's like a midwestern I mean it was based in Indiana I grew up in Ohio and like for it being October they were not doing it like this author did not do it justice of explaining how nice a midwestern fall can be um so I was a little bit disappointed I'm not gonna lie like I was I was a little bit let down by this book but yeah those are my thoughts anyway that's everything that I had for today's video thank you so so much for watching sorry it was a little bit of a letdown with like the reading expectations I had them so high and at the end of this video I'm like I feel like I just went through the ringer with these books but we we persist okay I'm gonna
