SWITZERLAND has arrive! But the question everyone wants to know - how expensive is it?! Switzerland is a place we’ve wanted to visit for SOO long, and it did NOT disappoint! So much so much we have a part one AND a part two! Aw man, this country is beyond beautiful. Everything looks green screened! So up first - an anxiety filled trip to the INCREDIBLE Grindelwald 😂🤘
In this video we're going to show you how much it costs
to live in a van whilst you're in Switzerland.
From fuel costs, to activities and food, campsites, to free camping
we'll be covering it all and along the way showing you some of the most
insane places that you should plan on your visit to this electrifying country.
So if you're new to our channel we're on a wild journey through Europe and on our
first trip in Custard, the bus who we created from a total shambles
to a shining superstar. France completed in May. Now we've trotted on to
Switzerland which is a country that we've always dreamed of exploring.
Let the madness commence.
That is a pure adrenaline rush.
Oh
What a bloody day that was kid.
Van life reality 101. I've woken up with diarrhoea
and now I only want a haircut at a petrol station.
You did such a good job last time though in Australia. Just go straight,
whack it across. You're better dressed around Mill Creek.
Everyone's like yeah go and live in a van it'll be so luxury you'll have a
bathroom with a shower. It's not luxury mate. I'm going to stay
in this place. Oh don't show it. Amy's wearing my pants
because she's run out. I'm going to kick down my belly.
Van life reality. Help me. This is what it's like living with
this monster. Not a bad view for a petrol station
though. We are officially in Italy.
Look at that. Bloody perfect. Started like blowing in the wind. He's still
shopping. I'm like um maybe wait until it stops like because
you're just trying to grab anything you can.
Although Italy was just a drive-through country we made sure we had time to
stop and meet our beautiful Italian friend
Riccardo from the Mongol Rally. He showed us around his little city of Genoa.
We ate the most incredible salty breads and drank
proper Italian coffee.
So they want to see the document for the bus and we need to get a vignette.
I'm not sure how much it is yet but it was like how much does it weigh and I was
like 7.5 to just below so I need to fill out a
form and he wants to see the documents. So this is to get into Switzerland.
What's a vignette? It's kind of just like a document to drive
on the roads I think. Yeah I think you just
like stick it to the window. Yeah and if you don't have one you get fined.
Yeah. So we need to get one. If you just want to tell your fans how much it was
and stuff just in case they're passing through.
Hi fans. I don't know if it goes on per day. I didn't know how many days and we
were only doing about four or five days and I said eight.
So it was £78. Oh well congratulations for paying more for no reason.
Welcome to Switzerland. So the reason that we paid £75
was because of the weight of Custard. Any vehicle over 3.5 tonnes has to pay
more and if you have a car, a motorbike or a
trailer then it costs 40 Swiss francs which is about £36.50.
After a big drive we decided to take some downtime
in a campsite to recharge ourselves and Custard.
The campsite was posh and it was on park for night for £30.
We stayed for two nights and were hit with a mega £75 bill at the end.
Time to find some free parking from now on.
The next day we started the mad drive through the Swiss mountains.
Before we set off we filled up with some diesel which was the most expensive
diesel we've had on the trip so far. It cost £1.60 per litre compared to
France which was about £1.30 a litre. Custard is a thirsty girl and we have
been flying through fuel on this trip and these mountain roads weren't going
to make it any easier.
We made it to Switzerland!
Mates, this is incredible. It's so scenic. It's a tough drive for Custard.
Oh bless her socks. Yeah the roads are like really winding really steep.
She's doing it. Yeah we just take a little bit longer than everyone else you know
but we will get there. So now we're making our way to a famous
roller coaster. Yeah we're so like excited to be here.
This is a country that we have never been to before and I've seen pictures
on Instagram and it is delivering already. You want to see
the itinerary we got for Switzerland as well mate.
It's amazing. Yeah so we need to get back on the roads but yeah
I feel proper dizzy up here do you? Yeah we'll be alright.
The parachute didn't flood. We'll be fine. We are high in the mountains.
The last time we went up this high altitude
was on the Pamir Highway and we all got sick.
Come on babes, don't be rude. Honestly some of the most stunning mountain ranges I've
ever seen though. So epic. And he's only gone and fixed the door.
Just did it with a knife and a bit of duct tape.
That was your uncle mate. Fixed it.
Alright we've made it to Galmaban. That drive took way longer than we thought
just because it was super steep and custard was
going about 20 miles an hour for most of it. I can still smell it now.
The brake pads stink. So we're in the car park.
We've just seen a wicked little rope bridge that we're going to walk on.
Like a suspension bridge. I think we're going to ride the roller coaster train
thing tomorrow instead. It's shut so we have to.
Oh scenes. Didn't come here for a hike Craig. What's happening?
Oh get a grip will you?
If someone was like can you describe Switzerland for me I'd be like
Oh I'm a bad girlfriend. I know he's terrified.
You were doing that when I was walking out weren't you?
I scared you. Legging it off the bridge. After paying £75 to camp on some grass
the night before we thought we'd do the same thing but
this time not pay £75. You can make Switzerland cheap if you
want to do a bit of wild camping. Spot lads.
So we're just on the side of the road basically but it's free
and it doesn't say no camping so we're hoping that nobody comes up
when we're in our little pyjamas and says you need to move on.
You got little pyjamas yeah? You are. We're going to watch Lethal Weapon
tonight.
Old school classic. Craig's like what film do you want to watch? What's your
favourite like 80s film on Lethal Weapon?
Mel Gibson all the way. Settling in for the night and we'll see you tomorrow
for the train.
Morning guys so we're back at the Gelmerbahn
funicular. Gelmerbahn funicular. Good morning guys so this morning
we've made our way back to the Gelmerbahn funicular. I think
that's what it's called. It's a cable car that goes all the way
up to somewhere I don't even know so it's going to be a lovely surprise
when we get to the top. We bought our tickets they were like 64
francs, swiss francs each. It's not that cheap for a 10 minute cable railway
ride. So we're about to get on the fastest roller coaster in Switzerland.
Oh and the highest. It's massive. Wait till you see this.
It's not actually the fastest roller coaster in Switzerland. This is the speed
you go at. Oh it is quite fast though. It's kind of fast.
Oh my god the views here are insane.
Even though it's terrifying that's definitely the best view I've ever seen
in my whole life hands down. So if you're scared of heights that is a
pure adrenaline rush but also the most scenic
mind-blowing thing you will ever see in your life. It's just Switzerland all over
isn't it? It's so incredible. I've seen pictures I knew how beautiful
it was going to be but being here now and the sun's shining it's a great
temperature. I'm just loving my little life Craig. It's
great. It's just something about the mountains that's so
so enormous. They make you feel about this big
but like in a good way. It's like you're just surrounded by
pure raw nature. Yeah it's so crazy though because like
I say you had a book and you were like all right everybody draw
a man. Everyone would draw them differently
and going through all these different countries and seeing how the country
have done their country different. Do you know what I mean?
Just chuck a mountain by there another one by there. Well no but it's really
cool like they've kept all their mountains and it looks so different to
Italy. What do you mean you kept the mountains?
You can't just put them in the bin. I'll bin that one. I don't like that.
Is that a joke? Switzerland is an absolute
joke mate. It's fake. It's all fake. It's just a joke.
Like nature on steroids. Are you having a laugh? Are you having a laugh mate?
So should I tell you what Switzerland's known for? Go on then.
Velcro. They invented velcro. Go on Switzerland.
The potato peeler. No way. Honest to god which I called the potato feeler
earlier and it was just funnier than it should have been.
Absinthe, muesli and the Helvetica font which is this one. Congratulations
Switzerland. Hat's off to you. If I had a hat I'd eat it now.
I don't think Amy gets the hat concepts or sayings at all.
So Amy told me a fact earlier about the actual tram train thing that we took to
the top. Did they say that they used to use it
for like materials for the dam? Yeah for heavy
heavy loads that they had to bring to build the dam.
There you go. And in 2001 it became a tourist attraction
because isn't everything these days. Everyone fakes it though and they
pretend it's a roller coaster and they speed up their footage but
that's not actually how it looks. We headed back down for another ride of our
lives and slowly made our way to the next stop.
We managed to find ourselves another free parking spot on Park4Night.
Made a bit of dinner and got an early night in for the next day.
Where are we going today babes? Grindelwald. Grindelwald.
Didn't sign up for this. You always sign up for this Craig. This is your favourite
I feel healthier just being here Craig. I do.
It's true isn't it? Yeah with the mountain air it's just glorious.
So we're out today we're going to head into a place called Grindelwald.
I think that's how you say it. We've got a few bits planned.
It's going to be a mad day. It's going to be real action-packed today. I'm really
excited. Yeah just looking around there's like
little huts in the valley, massive mountains, there's sun shining,
there's a blue sky, there's rivers. It's a beautiful time to be alive Craig.
Amy's got a giant burn on her head. Oh and a dinosaur backpack. Which way is
it then? Drive? Okay so today we're going to head to
The First. I believe that's what it's called.
Then we're going to go on like a little track around some awesome...
No no no that's not what we're doing. But first
we eat breakfast.
We didn't do very well on the vegan breakfast front. We drove past loads of
cute little coffee shops and bakeries and we went in and they just didn't have
anything vegan so we found the nearest Coop supermarket
and this is what we managed to get for about £17.
So we got like two bananas, a croissant for me. I'm trying to be vegan with Craig
for this trip but I might have to be vegetarian.
We got some couscous and some bread and a £4 travel adapter.
If we ate out probably we'd be doing like 50 quid so we saved some money.
Yeah we did. But we're out all day today with no food. We didn't bring a packed
lunch so we're gonna end up having food on the mountain so we'll let you
know how much that's gonna cost. I'm excited about it but I'm not excited to
pay for it. We'll just do the dishes instead or
we'll just quickly get on our scooters. Yeah they
won't catch us on the scooters.
Okay so when you first get here you might be tempted to just buy a cable
car up and then think oh I wonder what
activities are up there. I'll buy it when I'm up there.
No that's not what you do. So we looked at
two cable car rides up. 120 CHF which I still can't figure out what
that is. Like a hundred quid. £100. £50 for the cable car.
But if you pay £8-£6 each you get the cable car included and you get two
activities. So do that. Yeah you do.
No I'm stealing that. Did you hit your head?
So if you come all the way to the top you can do the first cliff walk,
the first flyer and you can also take a drink from the lake.
You asked me this morning Craig what we were doing today. So we're doing two
activities but also like high on my list is to meet a Swiss
cow. So we're just gonna go and do that now.
You laugh but watch us now. We're gonna be best friends.
Craig you're huge. Oh look at this little fella. They've all got bells on them as well which is
super cute. Why do you think that is? So you know
they're coming I guess. Do they ram you? Do they ram you?
Quick selfie. Selfie. This is actually happening.
You okay hon? It's pretty scary if it's going to heights over here.
I knew you'd be scared. But it's just a mesh like look at the floor.
I got you. I'll save you. Not for the faint of heart is it?
No. That's not what they say is it? Sure. Are you having a laugh?
Oh don't be so dramatic.
Oh don't worry about it lads. Just chips with a view.
What are you laughing at? Don't worry about it lads.
How much were your chips? Only nine quid. I mean we would get that photo but I just
can't be bothered to queue. So it's time for our first activity. I've
had some coke. I'm buzzing. I shouldn't have had the coke. I'm so
nervous. I'm ready. We're going on the first flyer which is a massive zip line
goes up to 84 kilometers per hour. I'm gonna cry. Did you get an extra
ticket for your mate? No. No. You know what I said on the rules?
Rules? It says...
Probably not a great idea to be wearing a wig. So I'm so terrified. Not just that it's
gonna fly off. But that is so fast. I'm gonna take a precaution.
Oh I should have had that coca-cola. Is this actually happening? Yeah I'm not
going with you.
I'm not sure if I can go Craig. You got this. You got this babes.
Just have to breathe in and out. That's all you have to do.
Oh goodness mate.
How many times have you done this? Oh I don't remember.
Many many many times. And as many people died doing this?
Up to now nobody. I thought you were gonna say nine then.
Oh dear. Okay I'm fine. Just before the door is open hold it close.
Okay. We have to wait for the other seats.
Okay will you let me know when we're going?
Oh dear god.
I don't feel well at all. So our zip lines have brought us down to the next
level. And we're about to do the mountain carts.
Which are basically a cross between a toboggan and a go-kart.
If you're gonna go on them make sure you use your brakes because
they go pretty fast.
I like Gabby Longhead.
The phone a minute. Right for me. Speed Freak Bannister absolutely ripping.
Now I'm moving to Switzerland.
This is the spot.
What a bloody day that was kid. I knew it's gonna be brilliant and it just
blinking was wasn't it. Yeah if you're thinking about coming to Switzerland
then Grindelwald is the one. So good. The views are insane. But now
we're moving on and we're going to a place called
Lottebrunnen. Oh nice accent bro. Local now aren't I?
So we've got about an hour's drive. We're gonna stay in a campsite tonight because
we've been like free camping for a couple of
nights. Greg smells so bad. His clothes need washing. His armpits need washing.
And we're just gonna have to take the plunge, pay the £30
and have a wash.
It's your fault. We ran out of gas. Oh you want some gas? 163 kilometers that
way mate. Watch out. Watch out.
I just found out that the campsite that wouldn't let Kirsten in because she's
too fat. They actually sell gas. So I'm gonna take
our old bottle on Harry. The electric scooter. The electric
scooter. I'm gonna get it replaced. Are you sure
they do that camping gas? Otherwise we'll have to cook with this.
Oh get out.
Lads mission complete. Finally leave the campsite. Hey who wants curry tonight
then? Shadol's not ready.
Mission complete babes. That was quick. We got gas. How did you do that then?
It's out here. He's getting the living daylights out of me.
Oh we're back on lads. We're back on fire.
Oh nice white fluffy rice. We've got this
Thai red curry paste. I wish you could all come over for dinner.
Next time on Kingin' It. We continue our Swiss adventure.
Flying through the mountains. Diving in lakes. And just having a jolly good time
