YEP Himalaya - Selection Camp - Climbing Kleinmatterhorn and Breithorn

We're going to Zermatt and there we will take a cable to go in the mountain and we're going to make a campsite on the mountain. It's like a gale force and um yeah Hugo and I have just like put up a tent and yeah we've been working well. How's it going? Great the weather is so good right now. I'm trying to acclimatize to this altitude of 3500 and also trying to get used to the weather. It's below zero degrees like minus five or something. Yeah yeah and uh a bit scared because you can hear the wind roaring outside and the tent is shaking like there's an animal trying to get in. But the Mike Horn team yeah they have been taking very good care of us. You've got to organize that you have all your equipment well packed where you know where everything is in your backpack where you know exactly how to pitch your tent because when we go up into the Himalayas we will have one tent like that for six people. I've never been in a blizzard like this before. The sound is crazy. The wind is doing a strange strange sound. I'm happy. I'm happy to be here. Yeah it's a lot of fun. And now we're at about 4000 meters up and tomorrow we don't know yet the plan. We're hoping to climb Bright Horn but the weather seems to be a little foul so we're not sure yet how the day will turn out. We're a little chilly but we're getting used to it and we're waiting for a lighter to come so we can make some a nice hot soup to warm up with. It's really windy outside and the snow. Yeah we've got hot water and soup so this makes us feel much better. So the storm is bad so they let us rest here in the tent to get used to things and they're not going to push us to hike. That we'll do tomorrow after we get used to it. I've never done this before in my life. I'm a little nervous but I think I'll be okay. This is the first time I'm seeing snow so a snow storm almost kind of scares me. It felt a little claustrophobic but I hope I'll do better now. This is just completely different from India so all the more different but I'm hoping for the best. It's not so cold so. The snow is up to here now and this is the top so it's a lot warmer. We arrived right at 3,800 meters with the Matterhorn just behind us. We're on the border in between Italy and Switzerland and the idea was to go up that summit and unfortunately with the amount of snow that has been falling I don't think we can make it but we'll definitely do some glacier walking. They've pitched their tents. The Young Explorers will cope very well in these cold conditions. One or two little problems that we have but in general everything's going smooth. Running like a well-oiled machine. It's absolutely amazing waking up to this amazing view in the morning. I mean it's not often that you wake up to the Matterhorn in the background. Oh it's really really cold but thanks for the sleeping bag and some company it's not too bad but sometimes you wake up you feel shivering but it's worth it. It's totally worth it. Everybody's on a rope and we're trying to go up that slope. You need your ice axe. You need crampons. Upsiding in the snow it's much more fun than on the rock. Well I never did such a hike and it's wonderful. Harder than in the low altitude but it's great. I'm loving it. The landscape is amazing.
