Day 2 of the 2021 Touratech Rally West was another awesome time. We awoke to frost-covered motorcycles, tents, and trailers, but when the sun peeked up over the horizon, the temperature rose quickly. Before we could go riding, our friend Travis was forced to change out the rear tube on his Honda Africa Twin. After we got all that sorted, we decided to ride up to the Tyee Mountain Lookout. After taking on some amazing forest roads (paved, gravel, and dirt), and tackling the rocky, loose road section that led to the top of Tyee Mountain, we were rewarded with one of the most amazing 360 degree panorama views I've ever seen. You could see for miles in every direction and the scenery was breathaking. Afterward, we headed back down the mountain to the Touratech Rally 2021 grounds for an evening of cooking, drinking, campfires, and new friends. It was an amazing time at this year's Touratech Rally, and I'm so looking forward to coming back for next year's version in Plan, Washington.
Quite chilly this morning.
Hey, what you doing there?
And I have a vending machine for meat.
I think I got a centipede in my helmet.
Look at him go.
Can you believe this?
Nathan's not even drinking.
That's just how he talks.
Previously on Lost.
I'm about to head out to the Touratech rally.
Now I'm on the road.
I can officially have my road snack.
Welcome to Washington.
Thanks, Google.
Amazing.
Look, nothing moved.
Right here?
Should I?
Oh, look at that.
It's perfect.
That ain't going anywhere.
He's not one of those weird Bud Light guys.
Here in my lovely trailer that's working out super well.
And now the conclusion.
Good morning, friends.
It is day one.
Yesterday was day zero.
It is day one of the Touratech rally.
Beards is here.
Quite chilly this morning as you probably saw in the footage I took right when I got up.
Like frost all over my bike, my trailer, all over my chair.
My phone said it didn't get below 38, but the frost I feel like says otherwise.
So we're guessing it's somewhere in the 34 range.
That's what going by the Leavenworth temperature, which is not that far.
That's what they said was going on over there.
So basically it was cold and it was fine in my bag, but took some convincing to get out
of the bag this morning and get up.
But now literally like two minutes ago, the sun came out above the hill behind us and
it's much warmer.
It's probably instantly five degrees warmer.
So I've been wearing gloves all morning.
I think I can take them off.
Just going to have some coffee and formulate a plan for the day.
I think we're going to go riding for sure because it's the only day it's not going to
be raining.
Beards has still got to change his tire.
I'm going to have some coffee.
Not that exciting.
So catch up with you in a bit.
Things are waking up.
It's about 930.
It's much sunnier.
That sun came up and it's so much nicer, but it's getting out and getting ready.
And this is just the volunteers and early arrivals.
The actual attendees can't even check in for another half an hour.
The surroundings here are gorgeous.
Just look at that around us.
Just look at the hillside behind everything.
So amazing.
So we get a bonus day because we showed up a day early and excited to go check out.
Probably ride up to Taigi Lookout.
So we haven't gone riding yet, but Travis is still making up for his mishap yesterday.
He's been dragging his feet, which I would do too because I hate doing it.
But at least we found a shady spot.
Hey, what you doing there?
I'm changing a tube.
Is it going so good?
Not terrible so far.
Now it's a party.
Beards' tire has changed.
It's early afternoon.
We're finally going to get out and ride.
Anyway, people are rolling in.
Still not very full, but he doesn't even have his gear on.
Come on, guy.
You're not even have your pants on.
Oh, my God.
I'm going to be sweltering.
I blame you every time.
I like your Taj Mahal.
Yeah, you're not screwing around with the rain.
I'm good.
Good to see you.
How was your ride up?
It was good.
Yeah.
Little chilly.
Oh, she stopped on the way.
So Nathan's here, of course.
Nathan's at everything.
If it's awesome, Nathan's there.
And if Nathan isn't there, it isn't awesome.
So just know that.
That's the thing.
So we're here at the Plain Groceries and they have a vending machine for meat.
Look at this.
Look at this mix.
I got to come back here.
Candy store for the carnivore.
I love it.
I'm just trying to narrate the meat machine.
That's all.
Hi, puppy.
He's right there.
I should have all the gasoline.
Theoretically.
It'll be downhill by the time I run out.
So no big deal.
Oh, good.
Yeah.
I've done worse.
All right.
Claims it's this way.
Let's see.
Let's find out.
I just got off the main gravel road and this is a trail.
I know.
That was fun.
Oh, my gosh.
That was cool.
Now we're going to Cai.
That's exactly what I think.
That's so gross, man.
Oh, what are you doing, buddy?
I think I got a centipede in my helmet.
It's so big.
It's freaking me out, dude.
Dude, of all things, too.
Don't you mean it's been there the whole time?
Did you get him?
No.
Are you sure?
You saw him on your glasses?
Tingling everywhere and not in a good way.
And I'm not the one that had it in my helmet.
This is the kind of...
Look at that right there.
I bet that's it.
That nipple up there.
Is that where we're going?
That's my guess.
We're going to the nipple, everybody.
I'm always going to the nipple eventually.
You guys are missing out.
Oh, my God.
That's clearly a lot of flow.
Wow.
Here's our turn.
That's how you look out.
All right, let's do her.
Away we go.
God, we're not even to the top yet.
This is only half.
Supposedly, from the top, you can see the other side
all the way to the mountain.
Thank you, Nathan and Alan, for the recommendation.
It's so quiet up here.
Yeah, I mean, we're hitting switchbacks.
We got stuff between us, so.
Yeah, I got some good footage of you.
Yeah, it's fun.
Yeah, that was a lot of pressure doing it on the big bike, man.
That was a real good ride.
Another switchback.
God, they are the rockiest parts, too.
Big switchback.
It would be neat to get some footage of you, but I don't.
Whatever you're most comfortable with.
I mean, I'll do it.
I don't care.
This guy's badass.
Spears is my hero.
Look at him going.
God damn it.
Tearing it up like a boss.
Yeah, I got to hang back so I got less dust.
Right, yeah, it gets super dusty.
There's nothing up here that's even half as bad as what we've already been over, so.
Oops.
Oh my god, I can already tell this is going to be amazing.
Yeah.
I shouldn't have hit that.
There's an actual lookout tower up here.
I'm parking right here.
Yeah.
My arms are now done.
You did it, buddy.
That was impressive as hell.
That was real good.
Wow.
I mean, look at the different freaking biomes you can see.
That's like flying up high in Minecraft.
Oh my god.
Wow.
So there's the mountains and then you turn the plains.
Mountains, plains, everything in between.
And then over here, it's a little smokier because there's a fire.
There's Beards.
He found a toilet.
Wow.
There is a book.
Two beds and a freaking sextant or whatever they use to figure out the bearing.
Wow.
Look at the road all the way down.
This is sketching me out.
A little solar panel.
Unbelievable.
This is, I think, the highest place I've ever ridden a motorcycle to.
No kidding.
Probably the highest place I've ever been.
That wasn't in an airplane.
Look at this.
Good recommendation, Nathan and Alan.
Thank you.
Can you believe this?
And now we got to go back down the sketchy road,
but it's actually a lot easier going downhill because gravity works in your favor.
All right, here we go.
Back on the fun section.
I am filming.
I'm in first right now until I get to the flow.
Oh, big rock right there.
What?
That was the wrong line.
Jesus, I cannot believe I threaded that needle through that without hitting a single rock.
That was nuts.
You are.
Oh, deer.
Like a ballerina.
A couple of deer.
There's about three or four deer.
I barely caught them, so I'm sure they're not on camera, but there they go.
There was also one that went up the hill.
Well, they're not expecting us to come down the road.
Oh, this is fun.
Or, you know, one wrong move equals a really quick trip to the bottom of the hill.
Right.
Oh, yeah.
Got no air.
Yes.
The thing, somebody in one of my comments said,
the African twin jumps like a dead cow,
and I've never heard something more true in my life.
It is really hard to get air unless you're going very fast.
So we found this along the way on the way home, the way back.
What the hell is it?
Your new home?
Your new hobbit hole?
I wonder if this is an old mine shaft that they've blocked off.
Oh, maybe.
More like a dynamite shed or something.
Great.
Yeah.
Well, that's fun.
All right.
Tear up some gravel.
This is a jumpy road.
I'm telling the camera.
I know you know.
Yeah.
And with the big branches.
Yeah.
No, you.
I'm your hype man.
Hey.
Oh, I don't know what that was.
But we're back.
Right.
Yeah.
Got to use left.
We're back at camp now, and it is dinner time.
I preemptively took some ibuprofen because I can already tell I'm going to be sore.
And tonight we're making chicken flavor fried rice.
I know I have my whole truck,
and I literally could have brought my whole barbecue and everything.
But I don't know.
I just decided to go minimalist.
So I'm going to do all my cooking on my jet boil.
I'm going to have some rice.
But I think an ingredient chicken got some of this fresh chicken.
So I'll use half of it tonight, and I'll save the rest in a baggie and have the rest tomorrow.
I had some chicken.
This was a genius idea.
That is downright palatable.
You like driving the car.
It's about a thousand times better than the Mountain House wet bread chicken fried rice I had.
This is much better.
And this was 98 cents.
The Mountain House is 10 bucks.
Well, we're hanging out under the...
I'm talking to my camera, by the way.
I'm not insane.
Actually, both can be true.
Both can be true.
We're hanging out behind the trailer under the awning,
enjoying some beverages and some company.
And it's Mr. Puff Puff time, of course, because that's what we do.
That's what we do.
Good day of riding.
Got to celebrate for Mr. Puff Puff.
I put my twinkle lights on, too.
So that's happening.
We're just hanging out.
But it doesn't make any sense out of context.
So I'm going to turn this off.
We're hanging out around the fire pit.
Hold on.
John's fire pit.
Thanks, John, for the fire pit.
Thanks, John.
There it is.
Electric fire pit.
And lots of amazing people here.
Does anybody want to...
You got a channel?
Shout it out.
Instagram.
OK.
790 Chica Adventure...
Wait.
I forget it.
Take two.
790 Adventure Chicas.
Chicas.
Not just Chica.
That would be not enough people.
You guys know Nathan.
This is For the Love of Knobs.
Right.
And this is the crew that's going to be riding around and catching...
No, catching is the wrong word.
Helping people who get stuck.
They're riding sweep tomorrow.
So this is the heart and soul of the event.
They're the heroes.
The ones that...
When you go out and get in over your head because you're a dumb...
They save you.
Nathan's not even drinking.
That's just how he talks.
Everybody wanted to be YouTube famous.
You guys want to introduce yourselves?
I know this guy.
El Presidente.
Yeah.
El Presidente is here.
Jeremy.
Jeremy's here.
Tim.
Gary's over there.
John, the fire master.
And, you know, Nathan, but whatever.
Chris is way back there.
She heard there was cake 20 minutes ago and has not come back.
Chris, where's the cake?
Did you bring us any cake?
Chris, cake time.
She's like switched camps.
Yeah, I know.
She left you.
I mean...
She's such a traitor.
Yeah.
So anyway, if you want to keep your wife, have cake.
Those are the rules.
It's so bright right here.
Right on my face.
No, no, no.
But it's too bright when I'm this close.
Whoa.
It's like Willy Wonka's tunnel.
And the rowers keep on rowing.
Okay, I'm gonna stop.
Not permanently, just right now.
Thank you.
And you know the help I can get.
What a fun evening.
Hung out by the fire pit with a bunch of cool people.
Most of whom I'd never met before.
You saw a little footage of that.
Had a great day riding today.
Had a decent dinner.
But it's cold and it's late and I've been drinking.
So it's time to settle in.
And say goodbye to day one of the Touratech Rally.
But look forward to day two.
So the weather's gonna change.
It's supposed to maybe even rain a little bit tomorrow.
Maybe even by the time I wake up.
So we'll see what the weather holds.
But it's definitely gotten a little bit more cloudy.
It's kind of crazy to be at a place where everyone here shares the same interest.
And for the most part, more so than me.
That is a better rider, has more experience.
Because you know, most people I hang out with aren't riders.
And it's only a few of my friends who are really riders.
And so it's great to be with your people, right?
Like in a place where you're surrounded by people that do the same thing.
And have the same passion.
And are knowledgeable and speak the same language.
And it's really cool.
So thank you to all of you that are here at Touratech hanging out.
So great to meet all of you.
And it's just really neat to get connected to a community like this.
So it's been awesome.
But day one is in the books.
I am gonna get into this sleeping bag because it's cold.
Go to sleep and hope it doesn't rain too much tonight.
And get up tomorrow and get some more riding in.
So I'm looking forward to it.
Tomorrow is Friday, day two.
And my presentation is until Saturday, day three.
So got all day tomorrow to do things.
I'm looking forward to it.
Hope you've enjoyed coming along on the rally.
Checking out Touratech with me.
It's been amazing.
Thank you to Touratech for putting on a great event.
And for having me here as a presenter.
And I'm stoked to be here.
And looking forward to my presentation on Saturday.
I'm gonna catch up with you guys in the morning.
Hope you enjoyed day one.
Because the first day was day zero.
I'll catch up with you in the next video for day two of Touratech.
Good night everyone.
Catch up with you in the morning.
Peace.
Here's Van Der Rohe.
There's the demo rides.
This is Brian with a Y.
That's important from Hippo Hands.
So this is Derek.
So this is Daniel Triumph.
This is the maple bar that Beards just picked up.
Oh water crossing, water crossing.
Yay.
Is your camera going?
Don't get excited.
This looks like a good job for me.
So everybody.
After the nine dollar burger I got on the first night.
I decided to make my own.
I think this can of soup was $1.25.
