Good morning y'all. Today is going to be the start of, I think I'm just going to make one project video of it.
And probably will continue for several days, but I'm just going to put it all into one video.
We are going to be redoing this shoot a little bit.
So we got this shoot this past spring or summer, don't remember exactly when.
But you can see a little cattle shoot here.
And we have not actually used it yet.
It's in really good condition though.
The only thing that is a little bit rough on it is the paint job.
The paint job is looking a little rough. It's kind of rusty.
So what we are going to do, we are going to refinish it.
So we're going to repaint it.
We went and got some supplies for it yesterday.
The plan, we're about to get started on it.
We have like a sand blaster here.
And then a bunch of these bags of sand.
We're going to really sand this down, smooth it out.
I think we're going to take some of it apart so we can paint the pieces individually.
And it should look really nice by the time we get done with it.
I think we're going to pressure wash it off first.
So we're going to pull this down there, get the pressure washer set up, and get started with it.
So it's gravity fed.
So we have it suspended up a little bit.
And then we got the air hose.
We did a little test run here with the sand blaster.
And you can kind of see what it does.
So we got the rust and then it smoothed it up, knocked the paint and the rust off.
Oh, Dad did our logo.
There we have our logo and the rust now.
So it looks like it's going to do a good job.
It's just really slow.
So we're going to pressure wash it a bunch first.
How much we'll get done.
But I'll show you guys the setup here.
We have a sand blaster here.
We're going to do it like one piece at a time.
Like we're not going to try to sandblast the whole thing and then paint the whole thing.
Because it's really humid out these days.
And it's going to start rusting really quickly before we get some paint on it.
So we want to kind of do it one piece at a time.
We have it kind of disassembled here a little bit.
We're going to sandblast it piece by piece and then work on painting it immediately after.
And that way there shouldn't be any rust developing between when we sandblast it and when we paint it.
Okay, I need to show you guys this.
So this is one of Dad's projects this week.
It is an air compressor ran by a tractor.
So this is our old air compressor before we got our electric air compressor.
It never did quite as well.
It was kind of a pain to deal with sometimes getting it started up and all that.
So instead of making our poor little electric air compressor run for the entire time that we're sandblasting.
We're going to be using this thing.
So it just is ran by a tractor.
Dad converted it from the engine that it had on it to being ran by a tractor.
I've never seen any other air compressor like this.
But it turned out it works.
The tractor just chills there and runs it.
And then we've got our air hose all the way out here.
So it works pretty well.
And we're going to be using it for all the sandblasting.
We got this side panel painted with the first layer here.
It's actually pretty close to dry.
Then we'll flip it over and do the other side.
Got the first little side door off.
It's being painted a nice yellow color.
Dad's working on cleaning off the next door.
And we're getting the first layers done.
We're going to let those dry.
Do a couple more layers.
It's going to look nice when it's done.
Dad's working on taking a latch thing off right now.
Yeah, painting has started.
Going well.
And it's looking nice.
Okay.
I will say our crew is a little bit crazy.
Let's do a little show of hands here.
How the painting is going.
How dirty the hands have gotten.
Again, Caroline.
Jocelyn.
Emma.
Eliza.
And then there's me.
This, actually, Emma got on me.
So you can just kind of judge by that.
Emma and Eliza are definitely the crazy ones up here.
And so far, you see our paint can over there?
It's been spilled.
Eliza and Emma were also responsible for that.
I was not a witness at the time when that happened.
But I've been told that they were responsible for that.
And they're washing them up here.
It's definitely believable.
But we are making progress.
We've gotten four small doors done.
This thing is done.
Dad's working on the other one of this thing.
And then we have some more doors to do.
So we are getting along.
We're making progress.
The painting for the next door has started.
Get the pros at work here.
To give you guys an update on how we're getting along with the paddle shoot here.
We are just doing a lot of sandblasting.
When we worked on this last day, you saw.
We were painting some.
We were painting as Dad did the sandblasting.
We got the first layer of paint done on several pieces.
The side doors.
That kind of stuff.
And now Dad is working on sandblasting the whole frame of the shoot.
Sandblasting is not very fun at all.
And it's a very long process.
So that's what Dad has been working on.
We aren't doing any painting yet.
It's just sandblasting right now.
And that's pretty boring.
And not a lot to do with that.
It's kind of a one-man job.
And Dad's been up here working on that.
Just about all day today.
And he's getting along good.
It's looking good.
There's just a lot of details to get on this thing.
Okay, y'all.
It is now the next morning.
We did not end up doing any painting yesterday.
Dad just did a bunch of the sandblasting.
But we're getting started on the painting this morning.
It's almost 8 o'clock.
Getting started nice and early.
And we should get a bunch of the painting done.
I think we actually have some rain coming in in a few hours.
So we're going to try to get a lot of it done this morning.
Good morning, everybody.
It is another beautiful day of painting.
The good news is, today should be the final day of painting.
If there's anything after today, it's just going to be touch-up painting, probably.
If you can tell, it's looking pretty completed back here.
We got a second coat of paint put on the whole thing and everything.
It would have been on Friday.
And I did an intro.
I recorded an intro explaining what we were going to be doing.
Fully intending on trying to get some footage of that.
But painting is not a good...
When I'm the cameraman and I'm painting, it does not work well at all.
Because my hands get covered in paint.
Then I can't touch my camera.
Then it's hard to get footage.
And by the time I finished with that, I was a complete and total disaster.
And my arms were covered in paint.
My legs had paint all over them.
There was paint all over my neck.
And my face was splattered with paint.
And my hair had paint in it.
Which was devastating.
And then I took a jug of paint thinner afterwards and doused myself in it.
And still only managed to get off 85% of the paint.
I still have paint on my arms a little bit.
So, yeah.
Painting is not my favorite job.
We'll just say that.
But it's been an experience.
And the shoe is looking really good.
So, we got it put back together here.
It's looking actually pretty spiffy and pretty beautiful.
Today, though, here's what we're going to be working on.
We need to get the final layer of black paint on the floor.
You can see it's got a few yellow splatters.
And we've only got one layer on it so far.
So, we need to get a second coat of paint on the floor.
And then we're going to be painting those gates out there.
They have not had any paint on them yet.
There's also a little door or something out there.
We're going to be painting all of that.
And we had ran out of paint.
So, that didn't get painted.
But Dad and Mom had gone to town this morning.
So, they got another can of paint.
And we are going to be getting those gates painted today.
My hair looks a little bit crazy here.
We are going over this thing with a steel brush.
These gates didn't get sandblasted.
The sandblaster, it was about worn out by the time we got all this other stuff done.
And we about used up all of our sand that we got and all that.
So, we got most of it.
And we got the most important stuff done.
But we didn't get these gates sandblasted.
So, we are going over it with a steel brush.
And just going to polish it up a little bit before we actually go on there.
Hello.
I was told to come get Abby's camera and now I'm videoing.
There's the chute we're painting.
Pretty nice, pretty nice.
Indeed.
The wheels.
We'll go see what Abby's doing.
Good thing you didn't open it.
I'm back again.
Behind the scenes.
I don't think Abby ever recorded much of this.
But it's painting.
It looks very good.
I really like it.
But, this is supposed to be black, as you can probably tell.
But whenever we were painting it, there's a bunch of dribbling on it.
So, we're going through it with another coat of black.
Do you have anything to say?
No? Okay.
She also climbs your leg and sharpens her claws on them.
She's a good cat.
Alright, nice interview, Ginger.
We have more and bigger fish to fry.
This is my channel, now I'm taking over.
Meanwhile, Abby's still only like 20% done.
So, we'll just sit and talk.
No, you'll sit and turn the camera off.
No, of course not.
Did you hear that?
Murdering her camera.
I think that's a little bit of an understatement.
An understatement?
Yep.
Update, we're still going.
Okay, little update here for you.
I just finished painting the floor.
And then just doing a little bit of touch-up painting.
Like on the black side panels here and stuff like that.
So, now I'm just going to get back to work here on polishing up these gates.
So, we have the side grinder right here with the wire brush.
So, I'm using that and just polishing these up real good.
You can't get quite as detailed with some of it.
But for now, I'm just going to try to get most of this done with this power brush right here.
And then I think we're probably going to paint tomorrow.
Because Dad is going to town right now.
Because he has some stuff that he has to get done in town.
So, I'm not going to paint right now.
He might paint later when he gets back.
Or we're going to paint tomorrow.
We'll just kind of see.
Okay, I don't know if you can hear me or not.
But we're still going here.
We are...
Got a lot left.
I'm just sitting here on the bin pad watching Gabby.
Just hanging out.
Nothing really to do.
Get stuff just part of life though.
We are going to get done with that.
Then I think we might have to hand brush that.
They're pretty slow going.
But we'll eventually get it done.
Okay, y'all.
My camera battery is about dead.
So, I haven't really gotten footage.
And, yeah, I'm tired.
But I got it done.
So, I think I have like a before and after picture on my phone.
But it took a very, very long time.
But it does look so much better now.
I have so much dust coating my arms.
From all the rust that came off.
Anyways, that's that.
I'm going to go inside.
And I don't think we're going to do any painting today.
That's I think going to be it for me today.
So, I'm going to go inside and get cleaned up a little bit.
And that brings us to the end of our project.
The cattle shoe is done.
It is put away.
It is looking beautiful and sparkly and freshly painted.
The paint looks so good.
We have not used it yet.
So, you guys will definitely see whenever we do actually need to use it.
And we use it for our cows.
We'll show you that.
I might actually cry.
Whenever that thing gets used so much that it gets back to having some rust on it.
It is going to be a tragic, tragic day when that happens.
But for now, it's looking good.
So, we're just going to appreciate that right now.
It definitely took a lot of time.
A lot of effort.
And it wasn't like super fun.
Like the painting is not the fun kind of painting.
There are so many details.
And watching the video back, it just doesn't even do it justice.
Because when we were painting, like I think I had mentioned, it is like nearly impossible for me to be focused on painting and doing my work like I'm supposed to.
But at the same time, try to capture everything on video.
It's like so difficult.
So, I kind of, I'm always disappointed when I go back and I watch these videos.
Because I'm like, didn't get the details in there like I wanted to and all of that.
I hope you guys still enjoyed the video.
Just know that there were so many details on that cattle shoot that had to be painted.
All the little cracks and crevices.
All of it had to be painted twice.
And then we went through again.
And did just a few touch up paintings where we thought it needed it.
So, we'll just put it this way.
Nobody in this family is going to be looking to pursue a career in painting cattle shoots.
That's all we'll say.
But yeah, it was definitely a good experience though.
We got it all done.
And it kept us busy for a while.
You know, there are some slow weeks when it gets to end of August, beginning of September.
Because it's like that waiting season where we know harvest is coming.
But it's not time for harvest yet.
So, a project like that is perfect for during that time.
And that will keep us busy a little bit before it's time to start working towards harvest.
I hope y'all enjoyed the video and coming along to see it.
I tried my best to show the full process as best as I could.
So, really hope y'all enjoyed the video.
