Had an absolutely awesome Australia day morning at the local honey hole with the oldboy… caught some great fish, some monster crabs and just had an all round great time…. So tune in and enjoy… lets get it dudes!!
Howdy howdy and welcome back to another episode of NQ Fisherman's Curry.
Just up in the creek at the moment throwing some pots out with the old boy.
It's one of the mangrove jack I got with him on one of our trips. I'll
throw up here the video we got him on, but just going up one of the little
tributaries of this creek and we'll throw this pot in. They love mangrove jack for bait.
We'll see how we go. We'll probably run them before we leave. We're gonna have a bit of a
fish today, but come down tomorrow after a good soak and see how they went, but
we'll see what today brings. I'll bring us along for the action. Catch me some crabbies Mr Jack.
We'll be back to see you shortly. Back to getting these pots set up.
Bombs away. Let's go fishing. Already got some livies at the boat ramp, so we're ready to GO.
We got some good baits and a barra. We'll get you back buddy. Two barra in there. Jesus.
Get us a rag to put in this hole old man. Try and keep them bastards alive.
All right, I'll worry about these barra first.
Come on buddy, we'll get you back. You having a gorge on them were we?
Having a little gorges were we? See you buddy.
Then there's an even bigger one in there. Oh no, he might be smaller.
Come here buddy. Having a bit of a feed on our bait were we?
See you bud. Go here, hopefully for some mullet or prawn.
Oh there's something okay in there again. Holy, we found the prawn old man. Prawn.
We found the prawn. They staying in mate? Yeah, there's a few decents.
We sure we should have another bucket. Oh yeah, these good prawns.
Can you please watch the language on the YouTube mate?
Um, you want to put them in that bucket Carl? In there yeah, put some water in it.
I've got the aerator there too.
Got him. Oh yeah, I got him. A little brimbo was up. I've only been here what 30 seconds.
A couple of live prawn and we have a little grunter. Yeah, a little spotty grunter.
They like the live prawns. Spiky little buggers too, and I don't feel like bleeding today.
Come here bud. See you buddy.
That's what we seen tailing up. Oh, that's on the surface. Might be another salmon.
Or a shark. Salmon.
Nah, a little. I don't even know if it's legal hey? Probably legal.
Yeah, knock her out quickly. Pull it.
Oh, bring it around here if you can. He's hooked well.
Beautiful.
What a day, already. It's not even bloody, I don't even think it's eight o'clock yet.
Oh, that one you got with me an alligator would be close. That's a good one though.
I'll get a little hold up of you when you. All right, nice finger mark.
Decent sized salmon I reckon. Oh, no good finger. Don't rush it.
Shit yeah old man. What a, that's your PB. I think you just overdid your PB of the day.
Yes. That another one of them stupid big ******* ugly thing. No, that was just a little heron.
What a box. It's not even nine o'clock I don't think. No. Lovely.
Lovely, lovely, lovely. He just stonked it too.
Heavy. Oh, barra. Big barra. Okay. Big barra. Can you get this front line in? Yep.
Good barra. He'd be over, I reckon he's 70 model. Why couldn't it be in a week's time?
Oh, maybe not. Oh yeah, he'd be 70.
You're getting a photo of me with this fella. We'll try and get him back as soon as possible
though. It's only 30 pounds, so I don't want to put too much on him.
Oh. Oh no. Gone. Just popped him. Oh well. Release in the water. You've probably seen him on the
footage. Just popped, eh? He was over 70.
Samu. Little one. You'll need a lift here, man.
Another one. He's like the other one.
No. Puggy.
Puggy, puggy, pug, pug. Just said to the old boy, it's gone a bit quiet here.
Gonna try the old live prawns. And 10 seconds later caught a fish. Let's see if it happens again.
Let's go live fishing. Couldn't see it. Oh no, not a little pug. Don't mind the prawns,
the old pugs. It's a big run from that little grunner. Oh, it's a trumpeter, is it?
Big trumpeter. ------- give me a rag for the... Oh no, I've got one here.
Happy Australia Day. I fished off that spot. We'll go to the next.
Lovely day in the bay. Go over to another system over here and see if we can pull another few
silver slabs or golden slabs over there, eh? I'll see you over there.
I don't know what the **** it is. Finn's River.
Could be a gill raker. It got crazed up at the end.
Could have been a buzzer. Was a whole mullet.
He's done it again. Turtle man.
Oh look, there's another one just there under the surface.
I'll get him to the surface. I'm just going to have to snap him off. I'm not chasing this bastard.
Let's get it. Oh, I reckon that was... Yeah, probably three and a half hours soak, I suppose.
Let's see what's in them. Oh, yep, there's one. There's one. Oh, here, big crab.
Yeah, there's one from one. Let's see if he's full.
Put him up here on the escue.
Watery. Have a look at that, ladies and gentlemen. That is a donk of a crab,
but the curries don't keep empty ones. See you, bud. We'll get you next time when you fall.
Pot number two. One from the first pot, but he was empty, so he went back. See how this one is.
Watery again. Two crabs. Good crabs. All righty, pot number three. Would have been two from two,
but like I said, we don't keep empty crabs. Let's see what's in this fella.
Oh, another one, I think, eh? Watery. Oh, three of them.
They're all crap. They're all legal. Every one of them is legal. Jesus, that is a stonker.
Put him back up here.
That'll be five crabs, ladies and gentlemen. Check them, too.
Oh, listen to that. He's watery. One from one, watery. Two watery. That's five crabs.
If you didn't know, you would have taken. Well, people still would have taken.
Big swimmer, that bastard. He's watery, too. Look at how docile he is.
That's five crabs out of three pots that were legal.
Look at that on the measure, how big it is, but that's five crabs. What's that down in Sydney?
500 bucks, probably. That's still way down. Probably full of water. So, is he pushy in that one?
Yeah. Oh, well. Five crabs out of three pots that were legal. Night one to take home.
Few fish in the esky, no crabs out of three pots. Would have been if you don't know what
you're doing, but like I said, the curries don't take them empty. Next weekend's looking
good for crab and we'll see how we go. I'll see you's over there. Well, people have been watching
my videos. There was about 30 pots along the mouth where I usually put my pots. So, good on you's.
I hope you's get a few. I've never seen so many pots in the mouth of a creek, but back in one
of the little tributaries, we put our pots in this morning. Hopefully, there's one right there. We'll
get him on the way out. We'll go up, get the last one. Oh, there's two more back up the creek, but
last one out of here. We'll see how we go, but bloody hell. It's Australia day today, so happy Australia
day everyone, but bloody hell, there's some pots in the creek. I hope you's get a few. The only
crabs we caught have all been floaters, so hopefully, if you catch floaters, you put them back because
it ain't worth, it ain't even half a sandwich. So, hopefully, you's do the right thing, but
let's see how we go up here. Coming up to the last spot now, I think.
Hopefully, there is some full crabs. Being good quality size crabs, but just, yeah, floaters.
Unfortunately, see the last pot hanging in the tree just up there. See the red float, so we'll
go get him. Hopefully, no more floaters.
Barra season Wednesday. Could have kept that fella I hooked earlier, but not yet.
Oh, don't know. Could be a goodie, that one.
Oh, not the cans.
He's a goodie, I reckon.
Soft. Really? Wow. It's got a bit more energy too, hey?
Oh, well, that's six. Six had eaten. Well, would have had six crabs from four pots.
But empty, empty, empty, empty, empty after empty. See if there's another
big fella in here that's hopefully not empty.
No, he's on the verge of being legal.
You're ******* kidding. Seven crabs. Seven. This is what I'm talking about when I say he's empty.
Empty as they come. Seven good crabs. I'll just show you on the measure, just
prove I'm not full of ----. Look at that. He is over by at least a centimetre. I don't
even know why I said he was close. But see you, bud. They must have just moulted, hey?
That two weekends ago when I got them, that was it. That date.
Now they've probably moulted in between. I didn't have a crab that I could push in that weekend.
That's too little.
Number eight. Number eight. Jesus Christ.
Number nine. And that is at least 18 across the back.
We would have done all right. Last pot. Nine legal crabs, not one in the esky.
And another floater. That'll make 10. That'll round it out to double digits,
ladies and gentlemen, because he looks as floater as floaters come.
Oh, Jesus. That's upsetting, hey?
Look at that. Hear that? Floater. Hey, you're a good crab. I won't peg you.
Look at him on me hand. That's 25 centimetres across there. So he's at least 17 to 18. See you,
well, how's that? Between seven pots, we got 10 stonker crabs, not just legal crabs. They were
big crabs, but not one of them had any meat in them. So no point taking them. Barely get a sandwich
out of bloody two or three crabs. So leave them for someone else to catch or me to catch in a
couple of weeks. Hopefully they're full, but me and the old boy are going to come down in the
morning. So you guys will see that footage in this video too. So I guess I'll see you tomorrow.
Happy Australia Day.
