As an All Pro Dad Team Captain and a father of four kids, it’s probably no surprise that I was going to ask Ken Griffey Sr. for an interview!
Thank you, Ken Griffey Sr. for conducting an interview for the @AlanAlford Sports Talk Show, ahead of the @mlb 3rd Annual HBCU Swingman Classic held at Atlanta Braves Truist Park!

So yes, this is a treat to have Ken Griffiths Sr. now, I had Ken Griffiths Jr.
My name changed.
So what can you say about being out here with the youngins, the HBCU Swingman class?
This is my third, fourth year. So my first year I broke down.
I'm serious, because I had never seen that many kids, especially black kids, in one spot.
So it kind of hit me real close, it was close to my heart that.
But it's just fantastic to see these kids play, being out here, and associating with them, it's just been great.
And these kids, they look up to your son and yourself as inspiration. What do you think about that?
Well, I know they look up to Junior, because they didn't see me play.
With Hank Aaron and Dustin, we all played together.
But I know they all talk about Junior.
Oh yeah, oh absolutely.
So yes, and that's got to make you feel good as a dad inside.
Always, always. I didn't know he was that good until I played with him.
When I went to watch him play from age 12 to 18 years old, he didn't get a hit in front of me.
That's when I said the same thing, wow, what are you going to do?
And he finally, right before his 18th birthday, he got a base hit out in the instructional league.
I said, you okay? He said, I'm alright now, Dad.
Which is great, but like I said, I didn't know he played that good until I played with him.
And that memory stakes out, your home run and his. Talk about that day and that memory mumbling.
Well, I'm just letting everybody know right now, mine went further.
But it was a strange night, and Harold was on base, Harold Reynolds.
So I hit the home run, I was meeting him, the first one at the home plate, and Junior was right behind me.
And we met each other, we was talking, and Harold said, you know me, it's a home run.
It'll be the first that ever happens. I didn't even think of that.
I wasn't thinking, I was just hoping to get a hit.
We went up 2-0, and I said, if he gets a hit, we'll be good.
And then when he hit that home run, Harold said, now, I told you, it's history.
I said, yeah, you right.
It was fun to be with the Mariners. They were all young.
Randy Johnson, M, Jay Buehner, Edgar Martinez, they had a heck of a team.
And finally, your son is out here now doing pictures, like he did for the Masters.
What are your thoughts about that?
Well, I know he plays golf.
He told me he took well over 44,000 pictures that day.
So he said they used a few of them in the brochures and stuff.
So I said, wow, I didn't know he was that into that until later.
But I knew he was taking pictures ever since Trey was in Little League football, his oldest son.
So he would go there and take pictures of Barry Larkin's kids and Trey.
And as he kept going, then when he got to college, they let him on the field.
He just stayed with it. He loved it.
Well, enjoy your stay here in Atlanta. This is going to be awesome.
I always enjoy my stay in Atlanta.
Thank you so much. Appreciate you. Thank you. God bless.
