The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE)’s Critical Materials Collaborative convened stakeholders from across the critical minerals and materials industry and research ecosystem for a webinar on “National Lab Capabilities and Engagement Mechanisms for Critical Minerals and Materials”. The purpose of the webinar was to highlight national lab critical minerals and materials initiatives that are advancing and derisking technologies and to bridge the gap between industry and the labs by detailing how the private sector can tap into lab resources. The webinar featured speakers from DOE leadership and DOE offices funding critical minerals and materials programs through the labs, as well as keynote presentations from the director of the Critical Materials Innovation Hub (CMI Hub) and the director of the Minerals to Materials Supply Chain Research Facility (METALLIC). The event concluded with a panel discussion on mechanisms to best engage with the labs. Attendees also had the opportunity to provide feedback on preferred lab engagement methods, standout capabilities/expertise, and existing barriers.
