Hmm interesting, what is this?
Hey guys, and welcome back to another episode of watch to talk before I get started
I would like to say that I am also working on another video, which is quite long and which is why it has been
A while since I posted a video since that video is taking up a lot of my time
I have decided to complete this one first
The other video will help educate anyone who is new into the hobby
turning a novice to
someone with a lot of experience
Therefore, I cannot wait to complete that video as it will help a lot of people to buy a proper vintage watch
That said let us get started with this video
On this watch to talk episode. I'll be doing a review on omega case model
ck14902
Before I get started, please help by clicking on that like button under this video
Your support is much appreciated since making a 10-minute video already take up almost a day of my work
And I am doing this just for you guys and slowly
building a useful online video omega database
Throughout the 1950s and on to the early 1960. This is the correct and most attractive vintage constellation box
When you open up the box, you'll notice there's a suede pad covering the watch
This pad along with the base pad where the watch sits into are usually missing. Why is that? I have no idea
On the base pad, there is a pulley by pulling it out and removing this pad
Will reveal the rest of the inside of the box if the original paper or booklet are still available
They will be located in this part of the box
In this case, even the original strap and buckle are left in this section as well
ck14902 is the date version of ck14900
This is also the first date model
With the dark lake lux design and they were first introduced it in 1961 to the end of 1962
This is the only constellation case model with many fake out there
The fake ones are usually quite easy to spot if you know your stuff
There are five things to look for
Whether the piece is fake or not
Number one the watch looks new old stock
number two
The word constellation the eye is missing the dot number three
The date has a big gap between the date window from the date disc
And number four the movement is usually a caliber 562 which is not a constellation movement
And last but not least number five
The case model number is 14900 instead of 14902
Like I mentioned it a moment ago 14900 is the non-date version
There are a few dials variation for this case model
The dial can be
Regular dome or like in this video is known as the pipe end dial
Note that the dolphin hand are made shorter
For the pipe end dial since the minute and second hands are not allowed to go beyond the minute track
At the very end of 1962 some of the dials will have the word officially certified
Put on just below the word chronometer
The dial will come in a few different colors and will exist with or without the crosshair feature
The hands for this model will always be dolphin type
Hands may come plain if the hour indexes are plain
If the hour indexes have luminous or black onyx
Then the hands will have a luminous or black strip
Going down the center
The case on this watch is a three-piece case made off of a removable bezel
Center of the case with the lugs and a screw down case back
It is common to find this watch with a broken or missing bezel. So be aware of that
This case exists in full steel like in this video
They also exist in two-tone version and also in solid 14k or 18k gold
The case has a dimension of 34 mm across in diameter excluding the crown by 43.3 mm
from lug tip to lug tip
Case thickness is 6.7 mm without the crystal and 10.5 mm with its original crystal
The correct crown on this watch
Is always the PiPen 10-sided crown. Note that the crown thickness is not the same as those from the 1950s
The crown diameter on this model is 4.8 mm by 2.3 mm thick
If you need to replace the strap on this watch the lug width is 18 mm
This model initially came with the leather strap or beat up rice bracelet
When the screw case back is open, you'll find the case model number is located inside of the case back
The center of the case takes a rubber o-ring gasket of 0.9 mm thick
The automatic movement for this constellation model is always a caliber 561 with 24 jewels
The movement has the date feature
The movement is hold down to the case by two case clamps and case clamp screws
if the
Booklet is signed. You can always compare the movement serial number to make sure that they match
And that is how you tell whether the booklet is the correct one or not
All right
Since this movement does not have a quick set date function
I will teach you guys a safe method to promptly change the date without damaging the movement
Firstly, you'll need to pull out the crown and then begin turning the hands until the date changes
Once the date changes counter clock turn the hands back to around nine o'clock
You should see
Or hear a tiny click
Then turn the hands
Clockwise back to 12 o'clock for the date to change again
Keep doing this until you get to the correct date before setting the time
With this technique, you'll not need to turn the hands every 24 hours for each day to advance
Since the crown is a pie pan crown
It is well, it may be quite difficult to hand wind
You can always grip it using the tip of your thumb and index or middle fingers and then turn it
Just like this
I do apologize for this part of the video since I film on the wrong angle
Unfortunately, I am unable to film it again since this constellation is no longer with me
What I want to compare here are two different chronometer omega watch boxes as you can see
The red one shows constellation on the inside whereas the green shows Seamaster on the inside
Green boxes are not common since Seamaster chronometer is very rare
Which make their original boxes even more difficult to locate
As you can see the pads are missing on this green box
That's the end of this video. I hope you guys learned a lot about this case model
