The Ivory-billed Woodpecker was once thought to be extinct, but many still hoped it might still exist. However, after many unsuccessful searches and a lack of solid evidence, the possibility of its existence has faded, becoming proof of the unprovable.

I saw my first ivory bill a couple miles north of Clarendon, Arkansas
in an old Cache River run right near where the Cache and White Rivers meet.
Before I could put my paddle down and grab my camera, he was gone.
I've seen the ivory bill on, I've seen it on five occasions with six birds. In other words,
there was a pair, I saw a pair on March 10 of 2019 and that's what made me commit to
helping save the ivory bill as a full-time job.
Here when I'd lose sight of John after about 20 yards, I'd get a little nervous.
So much more comfortable this year.
The first time I ever saw what I believe is the ivory bill of woodpecker was when I was in my
teens, about I think it was like the late 90s and you know I was really into forestry.
Dad told me some of the first things I remember when I was probably three or four years old was
dad telling me about when they moved to the log camp after his mother died and it was still a lot
of virgin timber there and he said when they moved there, this is in the early 40s, probably 1940,
they had southern red wolves still in the area, they had black bear,
they had cougar, and some ivory bill woodpeckers still left in that area. It was
pristine area of woods that they went in and started clear cutting.
it's now the race to find the ivory bill woodpecker.
