What's good, YouTube, man?
Hey, it's your boy, Yon Dove, coming at y'all
with another video here.
Super excited to have this product on this table, man.
Been waiting on it for a while, just got it in.
The company did put out the disclaimer.
When you order this product,
it might take five to 15 business days.
Should be well worth the wait, man.
Let's just go ahead, get a little trusty-dusty here,
and let's get that top open.
Fragile handle with care, y'all see that?
Let me get that tape off, come on.
All right, so, let's see, this box
had a hint on the table for a little while.
I'm gonna just say it's in that area.
But let's go ahead and pop that top, man.
So yeah, so we got a box inside a box.
Oh, a good old bubble wrap.
So there it is, man.
You already see, it's probably gonna be in the title,
but yeah, ZS Alternators, man.
Wanted to try something different.
This is a good old invoice, throw that over yonder.
All right, you wanna fold this down.
I'll be damned if I mess something up doing this unboxing.
But I'm about to, see if we can just pull it.
All right, so we got the little shipping box.
Fragile, it's on there somewhere.
Fragile handle with care.
We got this box with a ton of bubble wrap on it.
Looks like that's got tape on it.
All right, so now to reveal a moment, man.
Let's go ahead and take a look
at what I got from ZS Alternators.
More good old tape to cut.
I mean, the thing is, it's blowing out the box, man.
I love it, I freaking love it.
More bubble wrap.
Now, this is the big boy stuff.
This is, you can damn near weigh 300 pounds of stuff on it.
And if you hit the right spot, it'll pop.
I gotta say, I don't know.
If you hit the other right spot, it won't pop, man.
I don't know.
It bears weight very well, man, but yeah.
So we got the box inside of a box with the bubble wrap.
Good old, everyday, normal bubble wrap.
And then we got the big boy stuff inside the box.
All right.
Let's fold this, or slide this one over.
And look at this green monster, man.
Where do we begin?
I think, okay, yep.
All right, so we got more tape.
But I'm ecstatic about this, man.
I'd rather have everything packed up very nice,
so I don't have to go through the whole return process,
say, hey, look, we've got damage in the mail
and all that jazz, man.
But we're just gonna go ahead and shoot this
like a normal, old-fashioned,
I-shoot-it-raw type of video.
We should be rebelling some color right now.
I should be, I shouldn't start going crazy like,
yeah, it's all like, oh my God, guys, it's.
God, look at that thing, man.
All right, so there it is.
This is my 250-amp alternator from JS Alternators, man.
I decided to go with Illusion, is it Illusion?
Illusion Violet.
So this is the Illusion Violet powder coating
for my Tahoe, man.
Thing looks freaking awesome, man.
This thing is sick.
So, y'all can't even see the damn thing.
All right, so there it is.
Forgot the name already.
Illusion Violet.
So this is the Illusion Violet alternator
from JS Alternators, man.
So, 250 amps, just like my Brand X alternator.
My Brand X is in the truck as we speak
as I'm recording this video.
Probably will stay in there until,
obviously will stay in there until I swap this one out.
I wish I had some pictures so I could
kinda compare them and whatnot, man.
But at the end of the day,
Brand X does put like a little sticker right here.
Wish JS would do that as well, but I don't know.
Just trying something different,
trying a different company.
Obviously a way different color
from the white ones that I usually get
because I'm always having the theme
of white, black, white, black.
Let's go around.
We're gonna try this Illusion Violet.
I got it.
Illusion Violet alternator as far as the color.
Then I have the neon pink, tech flex, and the neon blue.
So, what is this?
End of March, March, last week of March,
something like that.
Don't know when I'm gonna upload this.
Might skip a couple videos
and get this going on the channel, man,
because at the end of the day,
I'm so excited and ecstatic to have this thing, man.
She is freaking gorgeous.
God, look at that color.
Trust me, man, the camera is doing this color
for no justice whatsoever.
But yeah, she's gonna get slept in that Tahoe.
And then also that, man, drop down in the comments,
let me know what brand you guys are running.
Brand X is obviously like very popular toys.
Let me know, do you run a Brand X?
Do you run a JS alternator?
Do you run an auto tech?
Do you run a Singer?
God, what's the guy?
Iraqi, from way back in the day.
I know EXO was messing with Iraqi.
I don't know if he still does it or not, man,
but let me know what brand you run for alternator,
alternators, and drop it down in the comments, man.
So yeah, I'm probably just gonna go ahead
and upload this because this thing is freaking gorgeous, man.
But y'all know the deal, man.
Questions, comments, concerns, get at me, man.
I try to get back with everybody
and also drop that like button, man.
Hit me with them thumbs.
Plenty more videos coming up.
Gotta figure some things out, man.
And then I need to open that.
Terrible handwriting, but this is JS alternators 2.
Matter of fact, hold on.
I think I'm gonna open it now.
Give me just a second.
All right, so like I said, man, I had the hint.
I don't even know if I should say in the background
or previous videos because I got this not too long ago
and I don't, like I said, the videos are on the drive.
They're in the cloud.
I just gotta do my editing on the videos
and then upload them.
So I don't know if this has been in the background
on videos or not,
because I just kind of recently got this.
Got this well before I got that, man.
But once again, you know, time in,
uploading on the videos and whatnot, man, Jesus.
Okay, right now I'm looking at the camera.
This looks like a dark purple.
In reality, y'all, I don't know if the lighting, man.
This thing is damn near like,
it's looking like it's gonna blow in the dark, man.
It's so bright, it just,
the clear coat on it is amazing, man.
Shout out JS Alternator, man, that thing looks,
I can't wait, I can't wait, man.
Y'all can hear it in my voice, man, I'm ready to go.
But yeah, so this says JS Alternators 2.
I know I got terrible handwriting, man,
but JS Alternators 2.
I reached out to the company
before I bought the alternators,
before I bought the alternators.
Hope I said that right, I don't know.
But I think I've already uploaded
my excess power super bank video.
I know for doggone certain,
I've already uploaded the video
of the advanced electric AE45 battery.
So I hit them up, I said,
yo, what's the deal with the alternators
as far as being able to run 16 volts and whatnot?
And they was like, well,
we got these regulators and whatnot.
You can get them.
We can guarantee they work with our alternators.
We can't guarantee anybody else.
So quantity two, y'all see that.
Load it over there.
So, all right, so they do come with pigtails.
So you got the pigtails.
Pretty much gonna have my man, Tim Jones,
get into all this,
because I'm not mechanically inclined,
but I can do my oil changes,
all that type of stuff, man.
But electrical, I'm pretty good with,
I'm not messing with my alternator.
So there it is, man.
They have these regulators.
60, y'all see the 16 volt on there.
So I think I could start off at 16.2,
something like that.
Hopefully, what I'm hoping for,
alternator, 250 amp alternator,
AE45 battery, excess power super bank.
I think it's capable of doing 4,000 watts by itself.
But at the end of the day,
I just want this to start off at like 16.2, I believe.
If my voltage drops to like 14 flat,
I'll be completely fine with that.
Even if I see 13.8, man,
I'm not gonna be like super disappointed,
man, there's only so much that the alternator can do
as far as keeping those batteries floating
and whatnot, man.
So yeah.
So here we have the 16 volt regulator.
So there she is, man.
So this,
I guess, let's see,
I'm assuming this is gonna plug into
the pigtail that came with this here.
Cause I'm looking at my alternator.
It has the factory plug on it.
I don't know, man.
Like I said, at the end of the day,
I'll let my man, Tim Jones,
figure out what to do with this.
Might have to reach out to JAS alternators too,
cause that for doggone certain is my factory plugs.
I don't know if I'm gonna utilize that
or how that's gonna work, man.
Y'all, like I said, y'all at the end of the day,
y'all know these things,
holla at me, let me know.
We can go from there, man.
But yes, super excited to have this alternator.
You gotta figure this out, man.
I didn't think about that.
So gotta figure that out.
But man, we'll go from there.
Either way, we got the illusion violin, man.
I should be good to go, man.
It's your boy on dub, man.
I'm outie.
Catch you on the next one.
Today here, what I'm gonna do in a video for people,
cause people keep asking me to do a video
on the original post that I made
for converting it to a four pin versus a PCM controlled.
What I'm gonna do is just tell you exactly
how to do it in with a video
and verbalize each step here.
Generally, what you're gonna have is a cover.
It'll look pretty similar to this.
There's gonna be three eight millimeter nuts on the back.
You're gonna remove those.
Obviously don't lose the nuts.
You'll need them to put it back on later.
Then underneath, you'll see this.
There might be some slight variances
in where the plug outlet is or what plug outlet it is.
Brush holder design might be different.
This might be open here.
You might see different heads of screws.
I use T20s.
Other ones, some guys will use Phillips.
Other guys will use Allens.
It's really just dependent on what you have.
The OEM is always Phillips.
So what I'll do here first is just take off the T20 screws.
Those come out generally between 13 and 14 millimeters.
So if you're doing it by hand and don't have an impact,
it does take a while cause it is a pretty fine thread.
Then I'll take the Phillips screws off next.
I always take the brush holder off
separate from the regulator.
That's just a preference for me
just cause I've had points where
it's easier to take the brush holder off
if it's an older unit
cause sometimes there's a little bit of corrosion here
versus trying to hold the regulator in your hand
while you're taking these screws off.
If you break this little plastic leg, it's pretty much over.
You just have to order another brush holder
and et cetera with the unit.
Generally, this is gonna depend on if it's OEM
or if it's aftermarket.
This particular regulator is OEM and was welded.
I already broke it off
just because it's kind of a pain to do that in a video.
What I'll generally do is take a pair of dikes
or side cutters or whatever you wanna call them
and pry the weld off, fold it over and then pry it again.
And then it'll pop off just like this
where it won't be actually cut or broken
and you'll still have something usable
to connect the new regulator connection to.
This is considered a AC stator cap.
This is what tells the regulator
what RPM the alternator is spinning at.
There's different functions for it.
There's RPM and just sometimes it'll use a turn on signal.
Like your self-exciting regulators will use this.
This is actually what it uses to turn it on.
That'll actually transfer through a diode internally
to the regulator and that's what tells it to kick on
which is why a lot of times when that diode fails,
that's when you see spiking or a regulator failure
where it just doesn't turn on at all.
Another reason why I don't really particularly
like self-exciting regulators.
So back to what I was saying before
about how some of these will be connected
versus soldered or non.
I solder them.
Some guys will just crimp this connection
and technically I guess that's okay.
I'm just always worried about corrosion
and failure due to something like that.
So what I will do is just solder it.
I have these tweezer style soldering.
You can use a regular soldering iron
but I do recommend not using 6040 solder.
You can, it's just a lot of people do get alternators
to like the three, 400 degree range
which is enough to melt that solder
which wouldn't be very good in that situation.
So obviously with these, I would just tweeze this
and solder it versus your soldering iron.
You would wanna put like obviously wet the tip
and then put it on a nice surface area
and then just solder there.
And then for as far as reinstalling the brush holder,
there's gonna be, you're gonna,
generally this is what I'll send you,
an OEM brush holder from Denso.
It will have a hole here and a hole here.
I will take a brush pin.
You can use a paper clip.
You can use just about anything.
Basically what you'll do is you'll stick your finger
in this hole here to hold the brushes back.
You can't see there.
You can hold the brushes back.
I mean, you can even fit your thumb in there if you got,
even I got pretty fat fingers too.
You can still fit it in there.
You can use a flathead if your fingers don't fit in there.
That's fine too.
And you're basically just gonna hold it back
and then insert this pin into it.
It's kind of hard to do when I'm holding it.
And that's gonna go right back on there.
And then you'll just basically reverse the process.
Like I said, I usually put the,
it's gonna be basically the reverse, right?
So you took the brush holder off first.
Now you're gonna put the regulator in first.
So you have your T20, your Phillips,
and your other two Phillips for the brush holder.
Sorry for my bench being such a mess.
Just finished building a couple of alternators.
If you don't, these are not very durable.
So you do not want to just like really crank down on them.
I have a torque bar on my impact
where it limits how much torque I can do.
Obviously, if I go gung-ho, it'll still break it,
but it basically limits the torque going on to it.
You've seen those on like, if you're a mechanic,
you've seen those on like lug nuts and stuff like that,
where shops will have those.
But I mean, obviously, as you can see,
I mean, it is that simple.
It's not something, a lot of people send their alternators
in to get this done.
That's what this customer did.
Sent me an alternator in to swap the regulator for him.
I don't charge people extra
on top of what I'd normally charge,
but you do have to pay for the shipping back and forth
and you do have to wait.
Obviously, the way faster method
is you just do what I did here.
I mean, I was fumbling around with my tools,
trying to hold the camera at the same time.
It really is that easy.
I mean, it took me five minutes.
And that was, again, fumbling around
and talking the entire time.
You really could do this yourself
if you've never done it before.
And if it takes you longer than 15 minutes,
God bless your soul, because that's not good.
But it shouldn't be, it should take you no longer than.
