Hi everyone, my name is Lily and I am 3 years old and this is my best friend Rusty and we dance together.
Rusty is a rooster and he is very special because he almost died but my daddy saved him and now he lives with us and makes us all so happy every single day.
I want to tell you about Rusty because before he came to live with us he was very very sad and hurt and I think everyone should know that animals need love just like people do.
My daddy stopped the car right away because he could see that Rusty was trying to escape from something terrible and the men looked really angry and mean.
But daddy said no and he picked up Rusty even though Rusty was scared and shaking and the men got mad but daddy is brave and he put Rusty in the car and drove away fast.
When daddy brought Rusty home he was so hurt and scared and his feathers were all bloody and torn and he couldn't even stand up properly and mommy started crying because she could see how much pain he was in.
We took him to the animal doctor right away and the doctor said Rusty might not live because he was hurt so bad inside and outside and he had infections and broken bones and he was traumatized from all the fighting and being mean to.
For weeks and weeks Rusty just lay there and barely moved and sometimes I thought he was going to die and it made me cry because I could see in his eyes that he was still so scared.
Then one day Rusty started to eat a little bit and he looked at me when I sang to him and I knew he was getting better and that made me so happy I hugged mommy and daddy and told them Rusty was going to be ok.
Every day he got a little stronger and his feathers started growing back beautiful and shiny and he started walking around and making soft clucking sounds that sounded like he was trying to talk to me.
After a few months Rusty was completely better and he followed me everywhere I went and he would sit with me when I watched cartoons and he even slept in my room sometimes because he didn't like to be alone.
One day mommy was playing classical music on the radio and it was a beautiful waltz and I started dancing because I love to dance and suddenly Rusty started moving with me and he was stepping in time with the music like he knew exactly what to do.
It was like Rusty and me had known each other forever and the music connected our hearts and souls and made us dance like we were one person.
From that day on Rusty and me dance together every single day and mommy says we have a special bond that cannot be broken and that Rusty chose our family because he knew we would love him and give him a safe place to live and be happy.
When we dance together I forget about everything else in the world and I can see that Rusty forgets about all the bad things that happened to him before daddy saved him.
But then I look at Rusty and see how happy he is now and how much he loves to dance with me and it makes me smile because love can heal anything.
Today we want to show everyone how beautiful it is when someone who was hurt and scared can become happy again and how music and dancing can bring different kinds of friends together.
Rusty taught me that just because someone looks different or comes from a sad place doesn't mean they can't be wonderful and special and full of love.
When we dance together it feels like magic and I hope when you watch us you will remember that every animal deserves kindness and love and a chance to be happy and safe.
Rusty is not just my pet he is my dancing partner and my best friend and he makes every day brighter for our whole family.
We picked a special waltz for you today because it was the first song we ever danced to together and every time we hear it we remember that beautiful moment when we first discovered we could dance together.
This song means everything to us because it represents hope and healing and the power of love to make broken things beautiful again.
