Hello and welcome to my channel.
There I take you through unique houses and tell you stories of people who choose an alternative life.
In today's episode we visit a place we have never been to before, a tiny community in rural Texas.
We meet Diana, a pensioner who has decided to move into a charming tiny house.
With a spacious terrace, a bedroom on the ground floor and easily accessible storage solutions, Diana's home is both functional and inviting.
Many people love something like this, but she has found more than just a tiny house.
She has discovered a flourishing community, which consists only of women who live in the smallest space.
Now she lives her life to her wishes in a place that really feels like home.

Does this house make your tiny home?
Hi, I'm Diana and welcome to my tiny home.
Before I decided to live in a tiny home, I lived in a 120 square meters mobile home for two people and was still full time.
In the last two years before my retirement, I looked at tiny homes.
I bought my house at Decathlon Tiny Homes.
The reason I chose this house is because I wanted to live on a level.
It's airy and I don't feel enclosed, even though it's so tiny.
I know that a lot of the three-meter-wide houses offer a little more space, but for me a little more space can mean a little more trouble.
So the less space, the less trouble.
With all the improvements and everything, it cost about $97,000.
And I paid it off after I sold my house and moved in here.
I wanted a community.
I wanted to escape the big city life and move here to a spot where I feel like I belong.
It basically changed my life to be here.
The slower pace is fantastic.
I really enjoy the lifestyle of a tiny home.
It means that I'm not doing a lot of things at the same time.
I actually have more time to do the things I want to do.
Being in the tiny home, I don't feel like I have to have deadlines or have to do everything at once.
I live a little slower pace and I feel more comfortable and more relaxed.
My tiny house is 2.6 x 8.5 m² and has an area of about 22.5 m².
This is going to be my favorite place in spring and summer.
I want to set it up so that I can sew a little outside here, because I make quilts.
And then I have a few more lights that I can turn on on the outside of the house in the evening.
These are solar lamps.
I put the chairs that a friend gave us as a gift, and they have already proven to be useful when we visit each other and so on.
It's really fun.
Now I'll show you the outside.
This is a new socket bar that I installed on the house last week.
I've only been here for two months, so I'm still developing.
It already looks more like a home than a house on wheels.
Here we can set up underfloor and storage space.
I have two of them here, one here and one in front.
This is the electricity for the house.
And the blue hose here is the water supply.
It is currently coated with insulation so that it does not freeze.
This allows you to lift and lower the house to align it.
There are two on each side.
The house is fastened at the bottom.
There are four.
One here, one down here and two in front.
So it is fastened here in Texas in the weather.
Welcome to my home.
This is the kitchen.
I really enjoyed it.
There is not a lot of space in our tiny home.
That's why we're really trying to focus on what's important to us.
I am a coffee drinker.
So I've gone from a five-cup coffee machine to a so-called Aeropress,
which I use to make my coffee.
It only brews a cup at a time, but doesn't take up too much space,
and I can put it in a drawer if I need to.
This is a quartz worktop,
which I decided to do instead of a chopping block.
These devices are really nice.
I have three of them.
I added one here to create more space on the worktop.
Here I have all my vitamins and some of my cups at the bottom.
Over here is a microwave.
It is also a convection oven.
Here is my wardrobe.
I use it as a laundry and a pantry.
It's very deep and a lot of people love it.
And then I use this as my laundry closet for all my coats in winter.
And in spring and summer, they're all folded up and stowed away.
I haven't shown you my refrigerator yet.
It's smaller.
Everything is stored here.
Then you have the storage area up here.
And these are to die for.
A lot of people love that.
I could store all my spices and my baking accessories up here
and a few baking ingredients down here,
but also my cups and just small stuff.
And then in my bathroom right here,
I have extra doors on this,
specifically so that my dog can get to her bath.
The doors are closed.
We don't get water on the floor, which is nice.
I have a combi washer and a 120-liter hot water heater over here.
These are just drawers also.
This is also made of quartz.
We put the bowls on top
because you want to have storage space underneath, which is really nice.
We have a little medicine cabinet over here.
I did put my jewelry up here on the wall
because you can't put any big nails in here
because I have a sliding door.
Okay, this is my dog area.
I bought this just for my dog
because she just loves to hang out when I do stuff.
We can both fit in here
and it's adjustable, so I can move it around
or I can pull it all the way out.
She loves sitting up on the pillow,
just looking outside and just meowing
like a little dog would just do that.
And this is my bedroom door
if I want to close it, which I never do
because I like to have them open and separate.
So this is a good door.
This is my bedroom.
As I said, I'm a quilter and I have a lot of quilting things.
It's a platform bed with two big drawers underneath,
which are three quarters wide.
It's a queen-size bed.
I stuffed everything in here
so I don't pull it out and show you,
because it's just full.
And then I put a couple of things on top of it
that have quilting things and storage stuff.
This is my closet and it is full.
I'm warning you, it is not the prettiest,
but I still have storage here,
so I can put my quilting things in here.
You can take your clothes and do whatever you want in here.
And the clothes are still enough up to the top.
So you can put three of them on top of each other.
I found out that I don't use as many pieces of clothing as I used to
because there is no more space to store the dirty clothes.
So you wash your clothes a little more often.
And then we come over here.
And I have a big TV set up.
It's a little bigger than I want it to be.
I'm probably going to swap it out soon.
And it's movable.
So if I want to do my quilting, I can push it over here.
And then I get a chair or pull it over here to this sofa.
I guess it's something you'd call it.
And I do my quilting there.
This is my sewing machine.
It is very relaxing.
It is a lot smaller than I had before.
I had to scale up my quilting table.
I had a whole room that was my quilting room.
So I had to really cut down on the things
that I could actually stow.
This is the ladder that leads to the attic.
All of the stuff in the attic still has to be sifted
because I've only been here for two months,
and there's a lot of stuff lying around up there.
Most of it is sewing work, most of it is fabric.
It still has to be sorted.
So in the spring, I can take all the stuff
and sort it out on the terrace.
That's going to do a really good job on my terrace.
This is the ladder.
It's very light.
It almost reminds me of balsa wood, but it is cedar wood.
A special cedar wood, I would say.
I'm still a kid, so we can get the teddy up here.
And this is one of the smaller carpets that I've sewn.
This is a really big decision for me.
This is your home.
This is your home forever.
I just decided that I'm going to call the park after I've been here.
I loved it how it was going to the park here.
I didn't want to go anywhere else.
I just packed everything up.
I drove from Washington State to Texas.
It was a fantastic adventure.
You know, I was totally out of my element.
All my friends up there were like,
wow, you're really going to do that?
And I was like, yeah, life is short, and you have to enjoy it.
And I'm going to enjoy it every minute of it.
It's fun, it's enjoyable, it's relaxing,
and it's the best thing I've ever done.
