Americans fought each other at the Battle of Brandywine: Why did some choose to support the king?

The Battle of Brandywine was a great defeat for George Washington and the Continental Army, but for many Americans, it was a great victory. About 500 American colonists fought on the side of the British at the Battle of Brandywine on Sept. 11, 1777. The Revolutionary War was in many senses a civil war.
