hi guys welcome back to my youtube channel in today's video i'm going to be teaching you how
to make kuno drink and this recipe here i learned it from my mother who added a secret ingredient
and i also did well to add my own secret ingredient that makes it even more tasteful
so if today is your first time here please kindly click on the subscribe button and also turn on
your notification bell so you will be the first to get notified every time i post a new video so
let's get started so to make your kuno drink you are going to be needing brown millet and brown
millet is the key ingredient when making this drink you're also going to be needing white
guinea corn and i usually use two parts brown millet and one part white guinea corn and my
mother's secret ingredient to making very tasteful kuno drink is adding tiger nuts there are different
kind of tiger nuts in the market but i usually go for the big ones it's always creamier i add as
little as much as i want but you find the full ingredients in the description box below so you
pour this into a bowl add all three ingredients your millet your guinea corn and your tiger nuts
into a bowl and you pour water into it if it is not very dirty usually i just pour water and cover
it up but because this one here was really dirty so i took it away and decided to give it a very
good wash until the water run clean just like this so i'll take this away and allow this to
just soak for about eight hours usually i start this the evening prior to the main day i'll finish
it up so i'll soak it in the evening then blend it in the morning and this is my secret ingredient
here a lot of people add sugar to it but i prefer to add date but if you're fine using sugar you can
actually use your sugar but i just love the taste of dates in my kuno drink so i'll just go ahead
to wash this thoroughly as well because it was really dirty so i decided to wash it then add
some water into it and allow it to just soak in my refrigerator make sure you allow this soak in
your refrigerator till the next morning as well and the next morning i poured the grains into my
kitchen sink and then i went ahead to wash it until it was really clean normally i'll blend this
in my blender at home if it was just a little quantity but because this is quite a lot i'm
going to be sending this out to be blended in the local market and while it was being blended
into a pot i poured water into it and i'll just allow this to come to a boil and in my hand here
i have my sweet potato and ginger sweet potato is one of the very very key ingredients when making
this kuno drink you can use the dry sweet potato if you want a lot of people actually use the dry
sweet potato but my mom taught me to use the fresh sweet potato so i'm very confident when using the
sweet potato so i went ahead to peel it and wash it nicely before going ahead to cut it into small
sizes and once i was done cutting it i'm just going to wash my cloves into it clove is a very
key ingredient when making your kuno drink but if you're allergic to clove or you don't like the
smell of clove you can leave it out and in my jar here i have my dates that has been soaking since
the previous night i poured in the water that i used to soak it into it as well i'm going to be
blending it along with the date that's why it's very important for you to wash your date
parallel to soaking it so that you can also blend it with the water so i blended it until it was
very very smooth and i put it back into a bowl and i'll just cover this and allow it to sit in
my refrigerator until when i need to use this and in the same blender jar i used to blend my date
i poured in my sweet potato cloves and ginger into it i put some water into it and i'll just
cover this and blend it until it is very very smooth and then i'll pour this into a bowl cover
it and also allow this to just sit until when the time comes for me to use it i'm also going to be
telling you the importance of your potato in your kuno drink you're going to see the great impact
that your potato would make in your kuno drink it's something you cannot skip so here my millet
has been blended so i just set some aside we're going to be kneading it as well just keep this
aside it doesn't have to be in the refrigerator and i put some into a pot normally you're going
to use a very big pot and just cook this once and for all but because i don't have a pot that is
big enough i'm just going to be cooking this in two batches what i was bored here i placed the
blended grains onto my stove top and i'll begin to pour some water into it bit by bit
until it becomes very thick and it'll look like you made pop because normally some people would
make this and just drink it like that they won't save it so that's what you're trying to achieve
to you're trying to achieve that pop looking consistency so i'll just keep adding water
into it and then cooking it until it becomes cooked and thick like this and once you get this
consistency you know that it is ready so now i'm just going to go ahead and set this aside
and i prepare the same thing as well for the remaining batch you can see how super thick it is
if you don't want yours to be as thick as this is fine mine is for personal use so i'm not making
it like it's for commercial use normally when they're making it for commercial use they always
make sure that it is very light so i put it into this bowl here and then i poured the potato mix
and the remaining blended grain and then i went ahead now and i'm just going to mix it together
to combine and i'll be setting this aside and this is the job of the potato the potato makes
it become liquid if you don't add the potato in it you just have a pot you just have a pop
consistency that would not lighten up so i'll just allow this to sit until it is cool and then
after about five hours of cooling down i actually had to bring the fan close to it so that it to
cool down quickly so after about five hours of cooling down i poured in my dates that has been
in the refrigerator i'll just tear this nicely to combine and then i'll go ahead to start sieving
this so i went ahead to move this aside and i placed my sieve cloth into a bowl it's also
called a cheesecloth i believe and then i'll pour it bit by bit and i'll start sieving it
until it is all done and guys you can see how very thick this is looking here for commercial
kuno it's not as thick as this i like to drink my kuno like i'm having a whole meal so i like it
very very thick and after sieving it the first time i went ahead to sieve it the second time
to make sure that it is very very clear and i am done sieving it it takes a long time actually
making kuno is a lot of work and then i'll transfer this into my bottles and i'll drink
this for a week most of the time i end up giving it out to friends and family because it's a lot
i love sharing my food every time i make it i don't know why i just love love love sharing it
