CALL OF THE WILD︱AZORES︱PICO - FAIAL ︱BEST ATLANTIC OCEAN SCUBA DIVING
Situated in the middle of the Atlantic and composed of nine islands, this Portuguese archipelago offers a unique ecosystem, stunning natural beauty and authenticity.
There is a mystic feel to it and interacting with this unspoiled nature is a genuine pleasure.
The breathtaking landscapes are a mix of rugged coastlines , lakes , meadows and old volcanoes, it is an understatement that sustainability and preservation are top priorities in the Azores.
The encounters underwater are also quite impressive, the Azores waters are in the migratory path of close to 30 different species of Cetaceans and swept by the Gulf Stream current. Hence, these nutrient rich waters act as a real magnet to Dolphins, Whales, Mobulas and sharks.
The blue shark is actually what drew me to the Azores in the first place as it is known to be a hotspot for this elusive and endangered fish.
These Pelagic fast swimmers belong to the requiem shark species and live in deep waters.
Diving with them, as I had expected, is a wonderful experience not to be missed.
