Oral Statement at the #UN Human Rights Council on Communist China’s Escalating Global Campaign Against Falun Gong
Human Rights Council – 60th session
Item 3: Promotion and protection of all human rights (General debate)
On behalf of the Society for Threatened Peoples
"Thank you, Mr. President,
My name is Ding Lebin. My father, Mr. Ding Yuande, remains arbitrarily detained in China solely for his faith in #FalunGong. My parents in #China will face reprisals because of my statement today.
Since 20 July 1999, Chinese authorities have carried out severe human rights violations in an attempt to #eradicate the peaceful spiritual practice Falun Gong. As of 31 August 2025, more than 5,200 deaths have been documented by credible NGOs.
An escalation started in October 2022, when the People’s Republic of China began a new effort to export this persecution abroad. Tactics include #disinformation campaigns, death and bomb threats, #misuse of foreign legal systems, and other forms of #transnationalrepression.
On 13 August 2025, the former Hong Kong Chief Executive Leung Chun-ying threatened #Finnish Falun Gong meditators in a park in Helsinki acting as though Chinese persecution policy applies abroad, in direct violation of Finland’s #religious freedom. Two days later in #Malaysia, a Chinese group claiming links to a “China police station” unlawfully removed materials from a female Falun Gong practitioner who was meditating.
We urge the Council and Member States to recognize and condemn these incidents as transnational repression by the PRC, to investigate them promptly and effectively, to uphold the principle of non-refoulement, and to call on China to release all #detained Falun Gong practitioners, including my father, Mr. Ding Yuande.
Thank you, Mr President!"
