Margot Robbie, Sebastian Stan _ Allison Janney Discuss Tonya Harding Controversy _ IMDb EXCLUSIVE

Hey everybody, I'm Dave Cargur and welcome to the Toronto International Film Festival. I am here at the IMDb studio at the Visa Infinite Lounge and I'm so happy to be joined by the cast of I, Tonya, Margot Robbie, Sebastian Stan, Alison Janney and the director Craig Gillespie. Hi guys. Great to see all of you. How do you think this movie is going to change people's perceptions of Tonya and Jeff? The thing is we didn't set out to make the film in order to change people's mind or give a particular statement on what happened surrounding the incident. I mean the greater theme is like truth and whose version of truth are you listening to and there's so many different sides to every story. So I hope people, I don't know people will walk out thinking that someone was in the right or in the wrong but I think people will walk out feeling that they definitely, they kind of took for granted what they heard and saw in the media and kind of didn't realise at the time they were kind of ruining people's lives and that maybe they didn't know the full story and their upbringing and the, you know, other circumstances surrounding it. They might be very surprised to find that there's a lot of relatability to the characters and I think that's one thing that at least from my point of view I felt like we were trying to go for is just, you know, to find the humanity and kind of forget what's out there and, you know, you do your research and you do your work and then you try to forget about it. I remember that incident so loomed large in my life because I used to, I wanted to be a figure skater so I definitely had an opinion about Tonya Harding and after seeing this movie I have a different, very different opinion about her and a lot of love for her actually.
