In our "Making Learning & Teaching Fun! with Dr. Jean" series, we learn it's important to start every day with a smile and a song. When you sing, your brain emits endorphins, and endorphins make you happy.
Some of these songs are a great way to start your day:
"Rise and Shine"
"I Like to Come to School"
"Hello Neighbor"
"Little Red Box"
"You are Important"
"Twinkle Twinkle"

It's important to start every day with a smile and a song. When you sing, your brain
emits endorphins and endorphins make you happy. I don't think you should teach young children
if you can't put a smile on your face every day. So some of these songs are a great way
to start your day. The first one. Rise and shine and welcome to school today. Rise and
shine and welcome to school today. Rise and shine and welcome to school today. We're so
glad you're here. A little louder. Rise and shine and welcome to school today. Rise and shine and
welcome to school today. Rise and shine and welcome to school today. We're so glad you're
here. Here's another good morning song. It's called I like to come to school. I like to come
to school. I like to come to school. I like to learn and play each day. I like to come to school.
And then I would go around the room and ask each child what they're looking forward to doing. Like
I like to play with blocks. I like to play with blocks. I like to come to school each day. I like
to play with blocks. Here's another good morning song. Hello neighbor. What do you say? It's going
to be a happy day. Greet your neighbor. Boogie on down. Jump, jump, jump, jump, jump around. Now
I'm doing several different good morning songs but what I'd suggest is you take one and do it
each day for a month because then when they hear that that will be like an indicator activity to
the brain. Oh it's time for school to start. It's time for me to get quiet and get ready to learn.
One song that I used at the beginning of the school year was called The Little Red Box and
I made a name card for each child with their photograph on it and I would start every day
by singing. I wish I had a little red box to put my Jack in. I'd take him out and go and put him back
again. And you know you're gonna have a good day if you start each day like that. Now if you don't
want to take him out and go you can take him out and go hug hug hug or you can take him out and go
how do you do or you can take him out and give him high-five. You see you are gonna have a BA and
a BS. You borrow and adapt with these these ideas I share and you borrow and steal these ideas I
share with you. So you just take them and use them any way that will work for you. This is one of the
sweetest songs that you can use at the beginning of the school year. You take one child at a time
and have them sit on your lap as you sing. I'm gonna use Katie's name. Katie is important,
important, important. Katie is important to you and to me. At work and at play she does her best
each day. Katie is important to you and to me. And you know how good each child's gonna feel if you
sing that song. And when they feel good then their behavior follows as well. Here's another good
morning song. All the children get a partner and they twinkle their hands like this. Twinkle,
twinkle little star, what a special friend you are. From your head to your toes, we are special
friends you know. Twinkle, twinkle little star, what a special friend you are. And you know you're
gonna have a good day when you start the day with a song and a smile.
