If you are in the mood for some de-influencing, then you've come to the right place.
Hey everyone, welcome back. My name is Carmel and in today's video I'm sharing with you
a bunch of makeup products that I really regret purchasing. Yep, if I could go back in time,
I would not buy these again. So if you are interested in hearing what my problem is,
then please do keep on watching. Just a quick disclaimer before we get started,
just because these products didn't work for me, it does not mean they won't work for you.
And I'm pretty certain there are going to be people watching this video,
spotting some of their holy grails in this pile of products. And I am not here to offend you.
Just because your holy grail didn't work for me, it doesn't mean it's bad. It doesn't,
it just means I'm the one with the problem. Okay, makeup is so incredibly personal. So
what works for one won't necessarily work for another. So please don't get upset with me. I'm
especially not here to bash these products or to bash any brands. I just have regret for one reason
or another. So I'm going to start on the actual complexion with a skin tint. And it's this one
from L'Oreal. This is the L'Oreal Lumily Glow Tint. Yeah, this is available, I think only in
the US still. I've not seen it over here. I ordered it from Amazon US. This claims to be
healthy glow meets breathable coverage and a lightweight water based tint. It contains reflective
pearls, which is the problem for me to provide a healthy, soft lit glow. I have this in the shade
200. And I remember reviewing this and I knew that the shade was too dark for me. Well, actually,
it's too dark, and it's also too warm. So that's a me, that's a me problem. I know that. But I just
don't like the finish of this at all. And you are looking at someone who lives for glowy products.
But when I tried this, I just could not get on board with the level of metallic on my face. So
that's the shade. And as you can see, it's a very fluid, runny formula. So I don't even want to put
this on. We're going on this side first. This is my BK Beauty 101 brush. I'm just going to push it into the skin.
Um, but I remember when I was choosing my shade, there wasn't much within my shade range, to be
to choose from. But you know, I have a neutral undertone. So generally, I can get away with warm,
I can get away with cool, I can get away with neutral. It definitely emphasizes my pores.
It definitely emphasizes my rosacea and my texture that you can see. And it looks really,
metallic, really metallic. And I can't get past it. I just can't get past it.
No, no, no, I've not changed my mind. I don't like it. And yes, I'm going to take
50% of the blame here. Okay, because the shade is too dark, too warm for me. But
I still don't like it. I don't like it. So let's move on to concealer. And I know this product,
this one is going to upset some people because I know some people literally adore it. It's the
merit complexion stick. Yeah, but I'm going to use it today. I'm giving it a chance. And I'm
going to hope that it's going to maybe, maybe improve my face right now. So let's put it to
the test. This is in shade sand. And I think with this, I was really confused as to what this was
supposed to be. So it looks like a very skinny foundation stick, doesn't it? Oh, look at how
orange I look. It's oxidizing. Oh gosh, we need to save this seriously. So I remember when I first
bought this, I thought what is this? I think some people use it as a concealer. Some people use it
all over the face as a foundation. I don't I've still not figured out how this should be used.
So I'm going to use it under my eyes and I'm going to use it around my face as well to try and
improve this face. So let me just show you the shade. So that's the shade sand,
which is definitely more appropriate shade for me. So let's go in under the eyes a bit.
So yeah, like I said, I think some people just use this as a standalone concealer, but this
is far too creamy to be used under my eyes, even when I'm blending it out with my fingers,
because I want the warmth of my finger to kind of melt this into my skin a bit.
It's just too heavy feeling. When I did my initial review of this, a lot of people were saying,
well, I just use it sparingly around the face so that they don't have to use a full foundation.
It will start to crease because it's just too thick and heavy under my eyes. I definitely
need something more liquidy that's going to sink into the skin. So I'm just going to pop a little
bit in certain places of my face. So a little bit here. Because I feel like my face really
needs to be rescued today. And I'm going to put a bit over my blemishes. So I've cleaned off my
BK Beauty 101 and I'm just going to use this to blend it out. It's really creamy, but not as
creamy as, for example, the Dior foundation stick, if you were wondering what the similarities and
differences were. The one thing I do remember about this is that it had great longevity to it.
So I did appreciate that. So that has definitely toned down the metallic finish of my skin,
but I can still see all of my texture really, really badly. So I'm just going to pop some over
my hyperpigmentation and then just a bit on my chin. I really don't like overloading my chin
too much because I have sebaceous filaments that I have to keep on top of. So I don't like
bombarding my chin area with products. I don't think this is a bad product. I think it is made
for a certain kind of person. It doesn't suit me and my makeup preferences. It's definitely not
too heavy. I mean, it's visible. I wouldn't call it a natural finish. I'd say it's very buildable
and in the right hands, it can be a great stick. But under my eyes, I can still see my darkness and
it's already started to settle into a couple of my lines. But I did put a fair bit on. By the way,
I forgot to say I've got no eyebrow products today. If you were wondering. Yeah, I think we
should. I think we should move on to the next item. We're moving on to bronzer now. And this
item I actually did like when I first tried it, but it's just too pigmented for me. And it's this
from NYX. It's the Buttermelt Bronzer. I have this in the shade Deserve Butter. Yeah, it's just very,
very pigmented. And I struggle to put a normal amount on. Basically, I'm actually worried about
putting this on now because I'm already feeling a little bit dark and orange. So I'm going to go in
with my BK Beauty 111 brush. And this has a really strong fragrance. Now, I actually like this
fragrance. But I do feel like NYX need to calm down a bit with the fragrances, don't they? I mean,
is there anything they've ever created that doesn't have a really strong fragrance?
Look at all that on my brush. Can you see that? Oh, my gosh, this could be a disaster.
So tapping off and just kind of dusting it on. Okay, that's not bad, actually.
Okay, I think the key is to tap, tap, tap and tap again, and then wipe it off as well.
So look, the reason that I regret buying this is because it is just too pigmented for me.
I just really struggle with applying it. If you know anything about me, everything that I use
needs to be easy. It needs to be really straightforward and not not really faffy to
use. So the fact that this could go wrong really easily absolutely petrifies me. So that's why
that's why I regret buying it. I do. And maybe it's the shade. Maybe the shade is just too dark
for me. I don't know. But yeah, I still, although I actually like the formula, I really do. I,
I just can't. I can't bring myself to keep using this. It's just a bit too much. And so maybe again,
my problem, that actually didn't go as terribly as what I thought.
Honestly, I do not have many blushes that I regret purchasing. I'm very happy with most
blushes. I love blush and it would take a really poor blush for me to really dislike it. But
there's actually a couple that stand out to me as poor. One of them I've already spoken about,
which is the Maybelline Sun Kisser blush. I can't use that again on camera. But the other one
is this. And I know I'm going to regret using this so much. This is the Elf Halo Glow Beauty
Wand blush. So I will say that these beauty ones are not terrible at all. I did like the contour,
but this blush, oh man, it's not good. It's not good at all. This is a very radiant.
So I'm popping this on with my, what is this? My BK Beauty 109. Yeah, I mean, that's not actually
too bad. Okay, it's blending a lot better than it usually does. It's just here to show me up,
isn't it? But if you were to see me in real life right now, you would see that I basically look
like a robot, an actual robot. Because I am so metallic-y looking right now. That's actually not
as bad as what I thought it was going to be. Thank you. I actually was dreading putting that
on my face. It isn't looking amazing. And look at how much you can see all of my rosacea there,
just gleaming away. Obviously, I don't have the best mix of products on today, but that's not
turned out too badly. I still wouldn't buy it again ever. I still regret purchasing it. There
are much better blushes out there. Okay, I've just popped some eyeshadow primer on because now we're
going to move on to the eyes. Of all the eyes, this product is probably the only one in this
whole collection that isn't about the actual product. The actual product is really, really
good. It's the Colour Story. Okay, so this is my regret. It's the Charlotte's Tilbury Beautifying
Eye Trends in the Colour Story Digital Lilac. Nothing wrong with these formulas. This, I will
say, is probably the best Charlotte's Tilbury eyeshadow formula I've ever tried. But who did I
think I was picking this eyeshadow palette, this Colour Story? I mean, you know me, and you know
that I don't wear colour on my eyes. Okay, the most I will wear is a little bit of pink, and that
is even pushing the boat out because I'm too scared of colour. So have I been using this? The
answer is no. No, I have not because I am terrified of it. So yeah, we're going to go in with this
today. Again, this is not about the eyeshadow palette and how good it is because it's absolutely
amazing. But there were a number of palettes released at the same time, I think maybe six.
And I was looking at them this morning and thinking, what was I thinking? There were so
many more options out there to me that I would have worn. Maybe even on a daily basis. This,
I never pick up because what am I going to do with this? I'm going to go in with my BK Beauty 202
and we're going to go in, we're going in, we're going in very carefully over here with this shade.
So that's not too bad. It actually matches my top. Okay, yeah, I remember trying this,
reviewing it and just thinking, wow, I am, I was wowed by how beautiful the mattes were
in the palette and how easy they were to use. I have a lovely viewer, Laura, who said to me,
I challenge you to wear some colour on your eyes. Yes, colour does scare me because I'm basic.
Alright, I'm a basic bee. That's me. I honestly, I'm just not born to wear bright colours. You know,
you log on and you see all of these amazing content creators, like even my good friend,
Jen. Go and follow her, Jen D Beauty. She creates the most amazing eyeshadow looks. But I just don't
have the ability, first of all, okay, I don't know what I'm doing. I can't create eyeshadow
looks because I'm not very good at eyeshadow. I'm going to go in with this colour down here.
So obviously, this is a very personal regret and it is literally only based on the colour story.
If I could go back in time, I would choose one of the other colour stories because I do love
these eyeshadows. But I'm just not going to really get used out of this one because I am.
I'm boring. That's why. Right, I'm going to go in with this shade up here. I actually think these
palettes were limited edition. So I don't know if you can even get these now. I mean, they are
absolutely beautiful. I cannot deny that. But it's just for me on an everyday basis. It's just not
happening. Okay, I'm going to top with this beautiful topper here. It's called Diamond
Dimension. And I remember being blown away by this. Put some in the middle. Absolutely gorgeous.
Oh my gosh. Maybe I just need to stop being a wimp. Okay, so there I am outside of my comfort
zone with a bright eye look. And yeah, it's not it's not a very good eye look. But the actual
eyeshadows are lovely. I just wish I could go back in time and buy one of the more wearable
colour stories. That's all. Right, we're moving on to mascara now. And I have this mascara from
Essence. This is the I Love Extreme Crazy Volume Mascara. I haven't really used this since I got
it. So I got this. I got this a while ago now and I remember using it and just not enjoying it.
So first of all, look, I don't know if you can see, but it's absolutely covered in product.
So it's really gloopy. And the size of this wand is bigger than my head. Literally look. Oh my
gosh, I'm gonna have to wipe off all of this excess because it's absolutely terrible. Okay,
I've wiped off all of the excess. Okay, so the one thing I'm remembering now is that it does
drag onto your lashes, which feels really nice. But even though I wiped off the brush,
it's still distributing loads of product. My eyelashes are all clumping together. Can you see
that? I did both eyes with one dip. I guess you could say it's a bit volumizing, but my lashes
are just clumped together and it really dries so fast. Yeah, no. Yeah, no. Really gives me anxiety
that mascara. If I was to go for any essence mascara, go for the Essence Lash Without Limits,
the regular one. That's my holy grail. That, no. Just no, no. I'm gonna go in with some powder now
and this is going to be an interesting test because I've recently fallen in love with the
Wet n Wild Soft Pink Photofocus powder. It's one of my holy grails now, but I was never blown away
by the original Photofocus translucent powder. So I want to give that a go today, but I mean,
I wouldn't buy it again. Look, I've used barely any of it because I was just never a fan of it.
So I kind of want to give it a last run today before it's ditched entirely for my pink powder.
So this is just an old Morphe brush and I'm just going to go in just around the face,
especially under the eyes. I hate my under eyes today. I hate my whole face, to be honest.
I'm not going to lie to you. I'm just going to go around my face with the same brush
because I am far too, still far too reflective. I mean, it's actually improved my face slightly,
but my under eyes, it feels dry. Is this a different formula? I need to know. Are they
the same? They're not the same ingredients. That's why. I thought they were the exact same
ingredients. Well, there you go. That's why. That's why I don't like this and I love this.
Don't buy this. Buy this. OK, go for the soft pink. It's so much better. It looks dry. This
one under my eyes is actually not too bad of my face, but it doesn't look great. It doesn't look
good. It doesn't look good at all. I am going to move on to the lips now, but before I do,
I'm going to use some setting spray and I'm going to go in with this. This is the Huda Beauty Easy
Bake Setting Spray. I got the mini and thank goodness that I did because I'm just not a fan
of this. It, yeah, it tends to make my makeup look funny by the end of the day. And I don't
know whether it's because I've got dry skin. I think people with oily skin have really appreciated
it. But I think this is kind of a powdery setting spray. So it's not a powder, but it has
it sets as a powder as far as I'm aware. And you can see, can you see around the cap?
You can see the white that is formed on there. I'll give it a little spray.
It actually feels nice. I think my face is just a lost cause today. Nothing is going to make it look
decent. It's just not the finish that I want from a setting spray. And it tends to
dry down pretty slow. I'm left with little spurts of setting spray on my face. Yeah,
it's just not for my skin type. But I know people that have this and they absolutely adore it.
It's just not the finish that I like. For me, if you have drier skin, if you like a little bit more
voluminous complexion, I'd say go for the Charlotte Tilbury setting spray. It's much
far superior, in my opinion. OK, on the lips, we have another NYX product. I'm actually petrified
about putting this on. This is the NYX Duck Plump Plumping Liner. I have this in the shade
Pinkjection. Now, I had two issues with this. Number one, this hurts. This is painful. I had
to remove this the last time I put it on because it was so painful to put on. So I'm a little bit
scared. The second issue I had with it is it snapped. That's actually pushed in. It actually
snapped on me on camera, actually. Oh, it's burning already. Oh, I can feel it starting.
Some people are obsessed by this and think it's the absolute best lip liner in the world. Oh,
it's hurting. It actually hurts. I'm going to continue now with the lips because there's a
big chance I'm going to have to take this lip liner off because it really hurts and it doesn't
plump my lips. I've over lined my lips. I'm going in with this. This is the Catrice Shine Bomb,
the Lip Lacquer. This is very similar to the Maybelline Vinyl Inks, but I didn't like this.
So I'm going to give it a shake. This is in the shade Good Taste.
So that's the shade and it's absolutely gorgeous. So it's supposed to be one of those products that
goes on like a liquid and it actually stays shiny on your lips. It's supposed to stay shiny on your
lips. So I'm just going to pop a little layer. I think the key to these are to pop on. Oh no,
that's made my burning worse. It has a fairly strong smell, you know, that lipstick-y type smell.
I think there's two things that I didn't really like about it. Number one was it's still a little
bit tacky. So you see. Now, I will say that they are very similar to the Maybelline Vinyl Ink and
I do find the Vinyl Ink do remain a little bit tacky as well. And also I expected it to be a
bit shinier than what it is. So it's supposed to be a shine bomb, whereas I feel like the Vinyl
Ink remain really, really shiny. And this is just like, you know, it's got a little bit of shine.
It's actually a lot nicer than what I remember, to be fair. So that's probably been the best
success of today. These products just don't work for me for many different reasons. I think there
are just better alternatives out there. So if I was to give you alternatives, if you want an
alternative to the Lumila Glow Tint, then go for the Lumi Glowtion. They have a very, very similar
finish, but I don't know who's wearing this as a standalone tint, as a standalone foundation,
because you'd have to have the most perfect, flawless skin to wear it. If you have any
texture like me, you're not going to like it. The Lumi Glowtion is perfect as a base and then
to go in with your foundation or your tint over the top of it, and it will give you a flawless
base. This is such a good product and one that I definitely prefer to the L'Oreal Tint. Plus,
this oxidizes. I mean, look at me. I don't mind the Merit Complexion Stick. I just just still
haven't figured out how it fits into my makeup routine for me to get the best out of it. I don't
like it under my eyes. I hate my under eyes today. I don't mind it for a little bit of coverage around
the face, but I just expected more from it. So I would not purchase that again. If I was to
recommend anything else, it would be this from Dior, the Dior Complexion Stick. Yes, this one
has fragrance, which is a big negative, but it's still a better product than the Merit in my
opinion. I just think you get your money's worth a bit better. This didn't turn out too horrifically.
Usually it's very patchy, which is the Elf Halo Glow Blush. If I was to suggest an alternative,
I would go for the Essence Baby Got Blush. I just had way more success with these, honestly.
As for the bronzer, this didn't turn out too badly at all. I think it's a really nice formula actually,
but I just find it far too pigmented. I would be more inclined to go for something like this,
which is the Maybelline Lifter Sticks. Yes, it's a different formula, different type of product.
This is cream and this is powder, but I think this just sinks into your skin and it's just so
much more flattering if you have more mature skin. I don't have an alternative to the eyeshadow
palette. I just wish I could go back in time and pick a more wearable eyeshadow. I don't mind my
eyes looking like this. I think it's lovely, but there's a time and a place for it. I am not going
to be using this palette very much ever. I mean, on the odd occasion, that is a real personal thing.
Out of all of them, this is the most personal to me. The mascara, yeah, it does give you a bit of
volume, but oh my gosh, it gets disastrous really quickly. I have to wipe off 80% of the product off
the massive brush. If you're going to go for anything from Essence, go for the Essence Lash
Without Limits. It is the best. Not the waterproof one, this one, so good. I don't know if this has
plumped my lips or not. I don't care whether it's plumped my lips or not. It's not worth the pain.
This is painful, honestly. I don't like it. If you're going to go for any lip liner,
you don't need to go for a plumping one. Just overline slightly and go for the Maybelline
Lifter Liners. Honestly, they are beautiful, creamy, and they're not going to hurt you.
Genuinely, the Shine Bomb hasn't been a disaster, to be honest. I like it a lot more than what I
remember. I'd be interested to pick up another shade, actually, of this, so I might do that.
This has been the only success of today, I think. And as for the powder, I have only just discovered
that the ingredients are different in this to this, so that's why I never had success with this,
but I have success with this. Yeah, I would definitely go for the Soft Pink all day long
over the original. As for setting sprays, I mean, this doesn't look too bad today at all,
but it just hasn't worked for me on a long-term basis. I would always choose the Charlotte Tilbury
Setting Spray. This is a Holy Grail. I have some issues with this sometimes,
but I never have issues with this, so it's just a no-brainer. I still stand by the fact that I
regret purchasing these products. Apart from the Catrice Lip product, that's the only one
that I'm doubting myself on now. So yeah, you'll have to let me know down in the comments
what makeup products have you regretted? Have you tried any of these? Are some of these your
Holy Grails, or do you agree with me, and do you also have makeup regret? Let me know down
in the comments. Thank you so much for joining me for this video. I so appreciate you being here
with me. I'm really looking forward to seeing you in the next video, but until then, take care,
and bye for now.
