Alois (Aloys) Bauer
(Reutte in Tirol, 23 July 1794 - Klagenfurt, 1872)

Austrian concertmaster and composer. Born in Reutte, Tyrol, he was the son of baker Franz Bauer and his wife Elisabeth (née Pfaundler). While details of his early life and musical education are unknown, he established himself as a prominent church musician. He served as the choirmaster at St. Egid's Church in Klagenfurt, Austria, in a post he held his whole life. As a composer, he wrote numerous accessible vocal works, primarily for liturgical use. His 'Pastoral Mass' remains a well-known and cherished composition.
