Firouzja Cooks Up a Saucy Italian Game
Featured is a very sharp chess game between Alireza Firouzja and Nodirbek Yakubboev from round 7 of the 2025 FIDE Grand Swiss. Out of an Italian Game, Two Knights Defense, Firouzja sacrifices the exchange after just 9 moves, giving Yakubboev tremendous piece activity in return. Firouzja’s queen becomes a prime target, requiring constant accurate responses, all while his kingside remains vulnerable. In this highly dynamic battle, a single misstep from either player could prove fatal.
