The Red Kangaroo is the symbol of the Australian desert with which it is inextricably linked. Subscribe to Our World: https://bit.ly/3xnPuGL

The outback deserts have formed in areas of low rainfall and the range of Reds exactly matches this pattern, reds are perfectly adapted for a desert existence and live only where rainfall is less than 500 mm per year. This film tells the story of two groups of red kangaroo that live on opposite sides of the continent. Through the stories of individual animals, the film will paint a broad picture of the natural history of the red kangaroo in arid Australia. Red kangaroo numbers have grown, they increasingly compete with sheep for scarce grazing. Reds are culled as pests, and commercially for their skins. On the other side of the fence, in the red centre, kangaroo densities are low, dingo populations have increased due to the proliferation of the rabbit, Aboriginal people have become more efficient hunters and Reds face different challenges for survival.
