Let's start with this new statement from Utah Valley University.
We had a speaker, Charlie Kirk, invited by a student group, Turning Point USA, speaking
on campus today at noon at about 1220.
Shots were fired from a building about 200 yards from the speaker.
This is new.
According to the best of our knowledge, the individual was hit and was taken away immediately
by his security personnel.
That individual, of course, is Charlie Kirk.
Campus is closed for the rest of the day and our campus police have a suspect in custody.
So that is new information.
From a building 200 yards from the shooter is the newest information from the university
and obviously the investigation is just beginning in all of this.
Joining me now on phone, by phone, Fox News, Fox and Friends Weekend co-host Charlie Hurt.
He co-hosted the show with Charlie Kirk just a few weeks ago here in New York and is a
friend, someone who knows him well.
Charlie, welcome.
Indeed, Martha.
I count him as a very, very good friend and I am absolutely shocked.
And obviously, as you and all of your coverage so far have pointed out, this is just absolutely
heartbreaking.
Our prayers go out to Charlie and his beautiful family.
It was just about an hour ago, actually, I was on the phone with Jason talking about
other things.
Jason Chaffetz talked about other things and he told me that he was there waiting for Charlie
Kirk and said there are like 2,000 people have gathered on this beautiful day just to
hear Charlie Kirk speak.
And the description he gave was so beautiful, I asked him to send a picture of it to me
and he took a picture and sent it to me and I showed it to my wife.
We were driving somewhere and I said, this is the kind of crowd that Charlie Kirk brings
on a college campus.
And as Jackie was just pointing out, Charlie is the best of America.
Charlie is the kind of guy that likes to talk, likes to engage with people and engage with
people who aren't normally as active in politics as they should be or might be, and he's done
it so brilliantly.
And he is the best of what we have to offer and the idea that something like this would
happen to him, the reason our country works is because of people like Charlie Kirk.
And the only way our country doesn't work is when people resort to violence in order
to silence people like Charlie Kirk.
And so right now I am praying for Charlie and his beautiful family and I'm praying for
our country too.
Talk to us a little bit about the impact of Turning Point on the last elections.
And we've seen the youth vote, young men in particular, really migrate over the past ten
years towards President Trump and towards conservatism on American campuses.
Talk to us about that, Charlie.
I think a lot of it has also to do with the idea that there was so much, especially on
college campuses, that you're not allowed to talk about and that there is so much indoctrination
on college campuses today.
And Charlie Kirk recognized that.
He recognized it very early and he recognized that, he recognized it in a very personal
way too, which is why he quit college.
He spent enough time in college to realize that this was indoctrination.
He wasn't learning the great things you're supposed to learn when you go to college.
And so he quit.
And I've always admired that so much about him, that he walked away from college because
he recognized how, and we shouldn't say this about every teacher out there and every college
out there, but for the vast majority of these places, it is about indoctrination today.
And he recognized that and he walked away from it.
And he also recognized an opportunity as a young man.
I mean, he was like 18 when he started to recognize the importance of actually reaching
those students who were like, you know, who had been sort of shunted to the side by in
this indoctrination effort.
And he talked to them in a very mature way, the way if you're going to have a democracy,
if you're going to have a country, a republic, that where we are self-governed, you have
to have people who are informed and you have to have people who are educated and people
who can have debates.
And Charlie met them at that spot and he did it better than anybody I've ever known.
And he reached them and because he treated them as grownups, as intelligent people and
talked about the things that a lot of college professors didn't want them talking about,
he reached them in a very powerful way.
And that's why come 2024 in the last election, I would say that there's probably no person
outside of President Trump himself who is more important at getting President, helping
President Trump reach those people he needed to win re-election.
I don't think there was anybody who is more important than Charlie Kirk was.
And it was all because he believes in debate and he believes in engaging people in the
democratic process, which is what we're all about.
Well said.
Charlie, thank you very much.
We'll come back to you.
As I just mentioned, Charlie Kirk has died at a hospital in Utah.
At the risk of sounding repetitive, Charlie Kirk was an incredible man.
Charlie Kirk was a good friend, not just to me, for anyone who holds a microphone and
anyone involved in politics, anyone he came into contact with.
You'll hear it repeated on numerous occasions that Charlie Kirk was my friend.
And that doesn't make either any one of us unique.
It makes Charlie Kirk unique because every single one of us would get a text, would get
a direct message, would get a call from Charlie encouraging us, congratulating us, complimenting
a conversation or a segment.
In a business that is full of ego, in a business that is full of competition, Charlie Kirk
was a true friend.
Charlie Kirk was also a major influential presence in the United States of America who's
already been described by the president of the United States as legendary.
No one has marshaled the youth in this country in my lifetime in the way of Charlie Kirk.
Whether or not it's my children, who I will talk to tonight when I go home, two young
boys, teenagers, who know Charlie Kirk, who listen to Charlie Kirk, or the kids that
I meet on college campuses before big noon kickoff on Fox Sports at Ohio State, who want
to ask me about Charlie Kirk.
In the thousands and tens of thousands across this country, from college campus to college
campus, Charlie Kirk has been a major influence on the young people of this country.
But his influence didn't stop on college campuses.
Charlie Kirk's influence extended to the heights of power in the United States of America.
A personal friend, I know to the Secretary of War, to the Secretary of State, to the
Vice President of the United States, to the President of the United States, Charlie Kirk's
influence literally knew no bounds, and he changed America for the better, for those
that hate and those that disagree and that can find no other way to respond but with
violence.
He did nothing today but to point out the important influence and the great man that
was Charlie Kirk.
All right, let's bring back in Fox News contributor.
This is where we started the day, Jason Chaffetz, who was at that event, and he joins us now
at the end of our hour as well, after we have learned, and we're here to get your reaction,
Jason, that Charlie Kirk has died.
It's so sad.
I want his wife and the country to know that the last question he took, the last thing
he talked about to people in Utah, thousands of people that wanted to come hear him, is
that his message was one of love, of Jesus Christ, of his belief in prayer, and he talked
about that from his heart, and you could feel it, and he's done that multiple times before,
but I consider it an honor to be there.
It makes me mad.
I'm so mad that this happened in our backyard.
It's an embarrassment.
Now, I've got to tell you, I used to be in Congress.
I represented this area.
We're better than this, but there's somebody out there who's evil, absolute, total, complete
evil, and they need to be taken down.
Our law enforcement, I love them.
They got to do a better job.
There is no communication.
You have 100,000 students between BYU and the University of Utah.
They say somebody's in custody, then they say, oh, well, it's not the shooter.
Right now, police are still pouring in.
It's almost three hours later.
They got to communicate with us.
Is there a shooter that's still out there?
And if so, what are we going to do to catch this evil person and make sure that he receives
justice?
That's what we're feeling in this community right now, but his message of love of God,
of Jesus Christ is one that I hope is part of his lasting legacy.
Yeah, I hope so, Jason.
I really do.
This is going to be a difficult moment for our country.
It's a difficult moment for so many of us, as we can see in your emotion as well personally.
Now, it turns into a very difficult moment as well for us as a country and how we answer
how we answer these horrific events of today, the loss of Charlie Curtis.
Jason, thank you so much for being with us all throughout the hour.
Thank you.
That when your country is failing, it's because our leaders have decided to allow it to fail.
And President Trump, I really believe, is on a mission from the Almighty to save this
country in that millimeter where he very well could have been not just shot, but unspeakable
things could have happened.
And the reason that they wanted to take out Donald Trump so bad, 700 years in prison,
every possible imaginable, is because he brings you guys into the room, is because he brings
you into the negotiation.
You see, this was supposed to be a managed decline of the United States of America and
just understand what you are living through.
You're living through a new American renaissance.
And honestly, there were a lot of people that said there's no way they'll allow Donald
Trump to be president again.
They're going to steal it.
They're going to use the machines.
And I understand all that.
They're going to try to take him out.
But never underestimate the will of the American people and the sovereignty of God
towards righteous and good purposes.
Donald Trump is evidence that God is not God with the United States of America.
That our best days are ahead of us.
I talk to a lot of young people on campuses, at our events, on my radio show, podcast and
social media.
Said differently, I visit college campuses so you don't have to.
I hear a lot from young people about their hopes, their dreams and their fears.
You see, young people are idealists.
They respond to vision.
For the past four years, they've seen the vision of the Biden-Harris regime.
That vision is you'll own nothing and be happy.
The Democrats say instead of owning a home, you'll rent a 400 square foot studio
apartment. Instead of owning a car, you'll rent a scooter using some app.
Their vision is this.
Limit your dreams.
Give up. Aim lower.
Be content with less.
If you're a 20 something in America, life has been really tough.
You've watched home prices rise 47 percent since 2020.
Forty seven percent.
Home ownership is now out of reach unless you make over one hundred and six thousand
dollars a year. Since I last spoke at the Republican convention four years ago, I've
become a husband and father.
In fact, we have two under two.
I think I get extra points for that.
For millions of people my age, that is a dream that feels farther away than ever under
the Biden-Harris administration.
According to current projections, one third of today's young Americans will never get
married. The average American is having fewer children than ever before.
Why? It's because for far too many, they simply can't afford them.
The basic things our parents enjoyed are increasingly out of reach for Gen Z and
millennials. You see, the American dream has become a luxury item for the wealthy
elite. Happy countries have children.
Broken countries have addiction, depression and suffering.
Democrats have given hundreds of billions of dollars to illegals and foreign nations,
while Gen Z has to pinch pennies just so that they can never own a home, never marry
and work until they die.
Childless. Under Biden, our young people own nothing and they are miserable.
Donald Trump refuses to accept this fake, pathetic, mutilated version of the American
dream. When he was president, young people were richer than ever before and he will do
it again.
Donald Trump is on a rescue mission to revive your birthright.
One your grandparents and those before them gave everything to hand down to you.
And listen carefully, everybody.
This is why young men are the most conservative that they have been in 50 years.
To all the Gen Zers watching this convention on TikTok right now, I have a message just
for you. You don't have to stay poor.
You don't have to accept being worse off than your parents.
You don't have to feel aimless and unhappy.
You don't have to support leaders who lied to you and took advantage of you for your
votes. America's future is a series of choices.
Our current state of slow motion national decline is a choice.
This November, we're going to choose success.
We're going to choose to put the future of Americans first.
We are going to choose to no longer be spectators this election.
We together are going to do the work to save America.
We are going to choose to work harder than ever before to chase ballots, to vote early,
to register new voters.
And all of us together working harder than ever, we will fire the Biden-Harris regime and
put Donald Trump back in the White House where he belongs.
God bless you guys. Thank you so much.
I said to my team, I said, guys, something is happening on these campuses and the media
was ignoring it. In fact, we were mocked on social media by all the intelligentsia of
the political establishment, right?
And the left saying, oh, you know, the polls show that younger voters are going to go for
Kamala than ever before. And I said, well, maybe.
But what I'm seeing is unlike anything I've ever seen before.
And not only that, Megan, our ground game and our ground team was registering these
kids to vote. We were getting thousands and thousands of first time voters.
So it wasn't just like, OK, let's put on a show and we leave.
We were translating the support into votes.
Fox News decides Donald Trump is president of the United States.
We've got our republic back, folks.
Let's go.
There it is. Everybody should remember this moment.
Look, I'm going to I'm going to echo Charlie from earlier.
Remember where you were when this happened.
Remember where you were when you realized that the unit party and all of these, you
know, just the establishment, you said it's time to actually participate.
And look what you guys have done.
And if anyone deserves to get tears in his eyes, it's Charlie.
I think we all agree.
Thank you, Erica, is no one in the money into something in the break room.
No one has worked harder than Charlie.
We got to hear some words here from you, Charlie.
You put all this together, my man.
Let's hear it. I am just humbled by God.
It's all good. It's all good.
God alone. God alone.
