It's officially "Panda Day" in California, with the San Diego Zoo just hours away from revealing two giant pandas in a historic moment of diplomacy between the U.S. and China.
We start this morning as Fox 5 is on Panda Watch at the San Diego Zoo as the Panda Ridge exhibit
Opens this morning. Oh, man
It's like we're living through a script of anchorman as we speak for the first time in a couple of weeks
We're getting a better look at the pair in their brand new home
The new habitat will be four times larger than the zoo's previous
Panda space and already those pandas are taking advantage of the elements the exhibit by the way
Officially opens to the public at noon
In our bigger habitat, we we modeled it after the Chinese mountainside
And so you might see a distant view of Tsingbao or she might be up close and have a front view in the glass area
They do come together for breeding which is a really short window about three days once a year
So at this time, we're still letting them acclimate to the space here at the San Diego Zoo and then eventually down the road
I'm sure we'll be looking forward to breeding and having babies. Oh
The city of San Diego is warning residents and visitors of the heavy traffic that will be expected around the zoo today our own
Heather Lake will be live at the San Diego Zoo later this morning with a preview of all the
pandemonium meantime governor Gavin Newsom proclaiming today is
California Panda Day his office released a statement yesterday saying in honor of the two pandas making their debut
