It's raining cats and dogs. Where do they come from?
The water cycle for kids. When it rains, the water comes from the sky.
But where does the water in the sky come from?
It all starts with a big blue ocean. The sun shines down and warms the ocean water.
Some of the water turns into vapor and rises up into the air.
As it rises, it cools off and forms clouds.
When the clouds get too full, the water falls back down to earth as rain,
and some of that water soaks into the ground and becomes groundwater.
The plants use their roots to drink the water.
Animals like dogs and cats also drink the water.
And then eventually the water returns to the ocean and the cycle starts all over again.
So next time you see a cat or a dog in the rain,
remember they're just doing what they do best, drinking water from the sky.
