House for Trees in Vietnam: A Sustainable Green Oasis Reconnecting Urban Life with Nature

House for Trees by VTN Architects is a remarkable project in Ho Chi Minh City that reimagines how urban homes can coexist with nature. Built on a compact site in one of the city’s densest districts, the house uses five concrete boxes designed as giant plant pots to grow tropical trees. These green roofs not only bring back much-needed greenery but also help with storm-water retention, creating a refreshing oasis in the middle of crowded row houses.

The design cleverly combines indoor and outdoor living with a central courtyard, shaded gardens, and natural ventilation. Using local and natural materials such as bamboo formwork concrete and exposed brick, the project keeps costs low while reducing environmental impact.
