Seal Entangled in a Bird_! A First for Our Seal Rescue Team_2

We’ve rescued seals entangled in nearly every kind of man-made debris: fishing line, nets, ropes, plastic packaging etc. But today was a first: a seal entangled in a Cape Cormorant. It’s one of the rare moments when the entanglement wasn’t synthetic. This was all natural and 100% biodegradable. Still, it was a serious situation. The bird was looped around the seal’s neck, potentially restricting movement and creating risk of injury.
Even though this wasn’t the usual case of plastic pollution, we helped. Natural or not, this was still a threat. Nature can still throw its own unpredictable challenges at marine wildlife. But here’s the difference: nature cleans itself up. Plastic doesn’t.
