Ajoke explains her decision to enrol in NAIT's International Professional Development Certificate (IPDC) program in Canada, and how it has changed and improved her life.
The journey from Nigeria to Edmonton started with a deep passion for project management.
I got to a point in my career I just felt I needed a change.
I was tired of the same old thing and I didn't just want any change.
I want something that could give me a global edge.
My name is Adjoke Aikimade.
I come from Kogi State, Nigeria.
I'm Owei by tribe.
I come from a family of five, two brothers and one sister.
We're a community of happy, strong and determined people.
So after being accepted into the IPDC program at NAIT,
I took a leap of faith and came to Edmonton with my family.
And it wasn't just a change in location, it was the beginning of a whole new chapter.
I chose Edmonton because of NAIT.
NAIT has the course I desire to study and it happens to have a community of friendly people.
It's also multicultural.
Coming here, we had help through the whole process.
We had an orientation that was designed for international students.
And so that helped us with valuable insights on how to settle down smoothly.
International Professional Development Certificate programs
are non-credit programs for international students.
And they're really designed to give job-ready skills in professional development
and to act as a springboard for future career growth and opportunity.
The impact has certainly been really positive.
Students are developing the skills and the knowledge and the confidence
that they need to be able to pursue career opportunities in Canada and abroad.
We have thousands of international students that choose NAIT for their education.
And our students know that they're going to be getting a quality education.
And we're equipping them with the skills that we know that employers in the market are looking for.
To an international student considering building a career at NAIT,
I say go for it. Believe in yourself and just take the step.
You're not just coming to NAIT IPDC to get education.
You're coming to get all the tools you need to build a future that you're going to be proud of.
