Making Matcha Tea Bowls from Start to Finish [陶芸] 抹茶椀を作る

In this video, I share the full process of making Hakeme matcha tea bowls — from wheel-throwing and trimming to glazing, firing, and finally drinking matcha from the finished bowls.

Earlier this year, I returned to Japan and experienced a traditional tea ceremony for the first time. Inspired by the movements taught by a tea master and the quiet beauty of the tea room, I was moved to create my own matcha bowls once I returned to the UK.

Throughout the video, I explore practical and aesthetic considerations — such as the bowl’s diameter, waist, foot ring, and cha-damari (the pool at the bottom) — and try out different forms and glaze choices to see what feels right in the hand and in use.
