A temporary injunction has paused further SEPTA service cuts, but uncertainty remains as the Eagles prepare to host their season opener Thursday night at Lincoln Financial Field.
Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro said Tuesday he is continuing negotiations in Harrisburg on a state budget and mass transit funding.
"I am not going to negotiate the deal through the media," Shapiro said. "I can tell you we narrowed the differences and I'm going to continue to go back and forth between the House and Senate to find that common ground." #philadelphiaeagles #philadelphia #nfl #fyp #news https://6abc.com/post/philadelphia-eagles-issue-travel-advisory-season-opener-amid-septa-service-cuts/17723704/
Well, the road to a Super Bowl repeat
begins in just under two days. The
Eagles kick off the season at home
against their bitter rivals, the
Cowboys. And excitement is growing
around the city as the skyline is lit
green and fans are ready for another
Super Bowl championship. But the ride to
get to the game Thursday may be a little
bumpy for fans because of the ongoing
SEPTA service cuts. Action News reporter
Caroline Gagan live in South
Philadelphia with the latest on a bird's
game plan for fans on Thursday.
Caroline,
>> well Rick, if you're headed down to the
game on Thursday night, you have one of
the hottest tickets in the NFL.
According to Vivid Seats, the average
ticket price for this Eagles Cowboys
game is more than $900. Right now, that
is the highest ticket for week one and
the highest ticket for the entire NFL
season. And that just goes to show you
how much this game and how much this
rivalry mean to the fans.
>> It is safe to say Eagles fans are fired
up for Thursday night.
>> They are ready for some football in
South Philadelphia to see the reigning
Super Bowl champs take on their division
rival.
>> So pumped. She doesn't know how good she
has it.
>> Expect another Super Bowl win though. In
their Kelly and Midnight Green, some
Birds fans gathered in Ka Haken this
afternoon for the final stop of the
Super Bowl 59 bus tour.
>> I'm really excited. It's a cool sight to
see.
>> As DJ Diamond Cuts played, Swoop
interacted with the crowd. Eagles legend
Brandon Graham not only signed merch for
the fans, he also took some pictures
with them.
>> It felt like a like another mini parade
and uh just still enjoying the the Super
Bowl highs.
>> And now the birds are looking ahead to
Thursday night's game against Dallas. If
you don't have a ticket, the team is
asking you don't come down to the sports
complex. For those who do, they're
asking you to carpool as SEPTA is
operating with limited service.
>> We normally take the subway in and then
take it home, but we're meeting a bunch
of friends and we're all going down to
get driving down together.
>> A temporary court order has paused
further SEPTA service cuts, but it's
unclear if that means the Sports Express
service will run on Thursday night. The
attorney who filed a lawsuit against
SEPTA last week wrote a letter to the
AY's attorneys today asking for clarity.
He said, quote, "Eliminating the Sports
Express trains and reducing the number
of train cars will create chaos." SEPTA
says its attorneys are currently
reviewing the request to restore Sports
Express service for Thursday night.
>> Go.
>> Meanwhile, Eagles fans, some young,
others four-legged, are getting ready
for the game. Are the Eagles going to
win this game against the Cowboys? I
really hope so.
>> We all really hope so. So, parking lots
here down in South Philadelphia, they
are opening at 1:30 on Thursday
afternoon, which is a lot earlier than
usual. And the team is asking people if
you're going to come down here and
tailgate, make sure you do it either in
front of your car or behind your car.
Just don't block a spot because they
want to make sure all of the parking
spots are available for fans. They also
are asking all of the fans who have a
ticket and are headed inside the game on
Thursday night be inside by 7:45.
Kickoff is set for 8:20. Go Birds. We
are live tonight outside of the link in
South Philadelphia. I'm Caroline Gogan,
Channel 6 Action News.
