Braves vs. Cubs Game Highlights (9-1-25) - MLB Highlights

Last start against the Giants. Not the typical calling rate we've seen this whole season, but I think it's more the mistakes, not the walks. He only had two walks. But I think he just ran into a buzz saw of hits by those Giants. And one down. Here's the pitch on the way to Matt Olsen. And Olsen! Two batters in with a base hit to right field. So two down and the runner at first base for Drake Baldwin. That one just misses. So the Braves will have two on here with two out. So here's how the all-beats with a chance to put the Braves on top. Ozzie swings and sends one down the right field line. Banging off the tarp. It's a fair ball. Olsen around third base. He'll score. And Ozzie with a laser right over first base. And just barely fair. And it's 1-0 Braves in the first. Gotta love getting an early lead. Ambushing him there on the first pitch. He's now 10 for his last 25 with 11 RBIs. Swing and a ball drilled out. Reaching back to his right. Anything but routine. And it retires the side. Spencer Strider gets the ball on this Labor Day for the Atlanta Braves. 19th start of the season. And coming off a good one. Last Monday in Miami. Seven innings of one run ball. And a good start for Strider. The curveball gets Michael Bush. Strikeout number 6-0-1 in Strider's career. And that's out number two. And here comes Suzuki. Line drive. Base hit to left for Seagal Suzuki. Picked on a low pitch and golfed a line drive into left. And here comes Ian Happ. Strider ready. There goes the run. Pitches outside. Throw to second. It's too late. Stolen base. Seagal Suzuki. And that's number five. A man in a scoring position as Baldwin's throw was late. Count runs full. And a 3-2. Softly tapped out to second. Charging in Ozzie. Tough play. Gloves. Fires. Bang, bang. Got him. In time for the out. Nice play by Ozzie. RBIs. One out for Jake Fraley. He's in the lineup today. He's put up some good numbers in his career versus Ray. And Jake Fraley with a one-out walk. Bottom of the order. Nick Allen. There goes the runner. The pitch is cut on and missed. Second tack. Out at second. Carson Kelly fires a strike. Really good throw by Kelly. One and two on Nick Allen. The pitch. Strike three. Called inning over. Braves outfield. Straight away. And medium deep against Nico Horner. And Horner with a deep drive to right center field. Harris and Acuna back. The winds got a hold of this one. It's Acuna's ball. At about eight feet shy of the warning track. He's got it. Carson Kelly. Ball punched out to third. Gloved by Alvarez. Takes a glance at it. Fires over. And two down. Three-one. Broken bat. Roller to second. Not a problem for Ozzie. He's got it. Throws over to the bag for the out. Cubs go down in order. We go to the top of the third. One-nothing Braves. Profar's over. One with a plow to left field. Here's the one-two. Check swing. Did he go? Yes, he did. Austin Jones, the third base umpire, made that call. And it was a good call. You could tell that the bat crossed the plate as Profar tried to check. Three-two pitch. And there's ball four. There's a hard-earned walk that time by Matt Olson. Out to Acuna. And he hit him. Came inside with a sinker. That's the last thing Ray wanted to do. Plunked. Rado looked like right in the hip. Or maybe in his back pocket. And he'll be taking first base. So now Drake Baldwin to the plate with a runner at first. And another one at second. Just one down. One-two. And a hit out towards right field. That's down for a base hit. Holding at third base now is Olson. That was in the air to right. And then fell right on in front of Kyle Tucker. Switch hitter batting left-handed. The 0-2. Ground ball to first. Fair. The throw comes home. And a good play. Very good play by Bush. Michael kind of a scrambling stop. Quickly got up and fired home. Very nice play to prevent a run from scoring. Three-two put out of the plate. Now it's in the hands of Michael Harris. First pitch to Michael. He swings and a fly ball towards right center field. Coming over now. Tucker. He dives. He can't get there. Acuna scores. Baldwin scores. And this time Michael Harris finds a spot to drop one in. And it's 3-0 Braves here in the third. We mentioned the conditions. The breeze. The sunshine. And that time both of them got the best of Kyle Tucker. Holland Ray throws to first. And they got it. Harris gets picked off as the inning comes to an end. They're not going to look at it. Nacho for one with a ground out to third. Braves with three runs on four hits. 2-2 from Ray. Ground ball over the mound to the left of second. That finds daylight. Basin in the center field. Bounce right over the mound just to the left of second. And out of the reach of Dansby Swanson. Under the glove of Bush. Horner goes to second. And they get the out there. Shot by Nikko to cut down the lead runner. Swing and a miss. Allen is gone. And Ray gets the strikeout. So two down. And here is Jurickson profile. Fly ball left field. Hat back. Ian Baxamore. Ray gets the fly. And that's out number one. The Cubs have not had a leadoff batter reach in any of the four innings. And the batter is Ian Happ. And the 2-2 from Spencer Strider. Drilled in the air. Deep right field. It's got a chance. Gone. Home run. Ian Happ. Cubs are on the board. Number 19 for Ian. A line drive. Just to the right of the .368 sign. And now it's a 3-1 ball game. Here's Ronald Acuna Jr. Right handed batter. The lefty Rodgers delivers. And here's a high fly ball. Hit to deep right. Tucker going back at the track. Through the wall. Leaps and makes a backhanded catch. Right in front of the garage door. For out number two. Not an easy play. Because Tucker is looking back into the sun. The inning continues for Ozzie Albees. 3-1 Braves. Top of the fifth inning. Ozzie batting from the right side. 1-2. Ripped down the left field line. A base hit. Rolling down the line. Backhanded by Happ. Deep down the line. Baldwin goes first to third. It'll be a double by Ozzie Albees. And it's only because Happ got to that one as quickly that he did. To keep it from going all the way to the corner. That Baldwin doesn't score. But Ozzie is pounding the baseball here in the second half of the season. Michael Harris. Runners at second and third. 0-2. And Michael with a high fly ball to deep right field. Tucker going back over his head and into the Ivy. And he'll drive in two runs. Michael burning to second base. He'll hold there. Two RBI double. Just buried it right into the Ivy wall in right field. And the Braves have a 5-1 lead in the fifth. And all this action coming with two down. That went about halfway up the wall. Maybe about two thirds of the way up the wall. Coming off the bricks on the fly. Here's Nacho. And Nacho with a deep drive. Down the right field line. Slicing into the corner. That's a fair ball. That'll drive it a run. Nacho Alvarez to second base. Back-to-back doubles. And it's 6-1 Braves on the north side. Some two-out damage by Baldwin, Albies, Harris, and Alvarez. 3-53 down the line. And he sent it all the way to the end of that line. We're just talking about how deep it is down there. And Swanson leads off the fifth with a walk. Matt Shaw at the plate. Swanson at first. Jaw weight. Strider. Kicks and fires. Line drive. Down the left field line. This will drop in and roll all the way to the wall. Swanson being waved around third. He's coming home. The throw is cut off. RBI double. Matt Shaw. It's 6-2 here in the fifth. Very nice at bat for Maddie. And that's out number two. And the batter is PCA. He has grounded out and flied out. And he pushes a bunt to third. And that's going to be a hit. Play the game, Pete. Play the game. You need base runners. And now is when you can use the long ball from Dansby Swanson. And the 2-1. Line drive. Base hit. Left center field. One let is in. Pete Crow Armstrong around third. He's heading home. He will score. Cubs are right back in the game. Two run double. Dansby Swanson. It's now a 6-4 ball game. What a sight to watch. Pete Crow Armstrong scored from first on a ball that didn't even make it to the warning track. Drake Baldwin has walked single twice and scored a run. The 0-2. Swing and a miss. Strike three. Baldwin swung at that pitch. That pitch was shoulder high. Here's the pitch. Drilled out towards left center. Pete Crow Armstrong racing. Racing. Armstrong left center field. And he steals extra bases from Ozzie Albies. Now you love to see Tuck do a little damage here. Just get on base. Cubs need some base runners. Down he goes. Swung on and missed at a slider. Two quick outs for Dylan Lee. Here's a 2-2. And there's a called third strike. Lee with a nice bottom of the seventh. A 1-2-3-7. Ian with a homer and a single already today. And now the 1-2. Half lines one. Shallow left field. Coming in. Fraley. That's a base hit. Nice piece of hitting by Ian. You could tell Ron with two strikes. He was just trying to put it in play. Excellent job by Ian to get on base. One away in the batter, Carson Kelly. Kelly has grounded out. Walked and lined out to left. There goes the runner. The pitch is taken for a strike. Throw to second. Not in time. Happ running on the 3-1. Gets the steal. Cubs trail by two. One away with a man at second. And the 3-2 pitch. Kelly will drive one in the air to left field. Back goes Fraley. That ball is gone. Four game is tied. Carson Kelly a two run home run. Listen to this crowd. Kelly gives him a good reason. He hits a line drive bullet. No doubt home run for number 14. And the game is tied. One away. Here comes the 2-2. Pop fly back. It's short. Might be a tough play. Swanson goes out. And makes a great catch over the shoulder. Like a wide receiver running a little sideline pattern. Caught it right over the shoulder going away. And that's out number two. Back to back walks issued by Brad Keller. After he got the first two. Michael Harris the second is coming up. And now they rise to their feet here in Wrigley. 6-6 in the ninth. First and second. Two outs. Field two. Struck him out. Keller puts a zero on the board. See if the Cubs can make Atlanta pay here in the bottom of the ninth inning. Matt Shaw will lead things off. Here's a line drive. Shallow left center field. Base hit. Matt Shaw on the 0-2 pitch. Lines a soft single to left. Carlos Santana will make his Cubs debut. And Brevia strikes him out with a slider downstairs. Two down here in the ninth inning. They've got to get Seiya Suzuki. Who's probably the biggest power threat in their lineup. Is over. He is there. And we are headed to the tenth on this Labor Day in Chicago. One down. Go ahead and run at third. And here comes Jake Fraley. Swing and a miss. Struck him out. Kittredge gets Fraley. That's huge. And the 1-2 pitch on the way. Swing and a miss. Strike three. What a job by Kittredge. Back to back strikeouts. Advancing to third is Suzuki. And it's up to Carson Kelly. Well, he could really be the hero of this game with another base hit. Here's the pitch to Carson. A swing and a line drive down the left field line. Fair ball. Cubs win the game. Carson Kelly delivers. Listen to this crowd. Well, he said he could be the hero of the game big time after tying it in the eighth and winning it in the tenth. First pitch slider. Double down the line. Cubs win. Cubs come from five runs down. One of the more dramatic wins of the season. The crowd was wonderful. And the Cubs might be able to pick up some ground on Milwaukee. But that's secondary right now. This was a great win.
