We recently purchased my daughter her very own Honda CRF110F dirt bike, and our first big adventure was a trip to Brown's Camp OHV Area for some camping and dirt bike riding. She started out slowly at first, checking out the kids' play area and many of the gravel roads through the forest. This is her first time riding a dirt bike off road, and she's making great progress. This is part one of two videos covering this first dirt bike riding trip at Brown's Camp. The kid's first time riding a dirt bike off road went well, if a bit slowly. This isn't the most exciting or eventful adventure, and she has a dirt bike fail at the beginning and falls off the bike, but that's just part of the process of learning to ride a dirt bike.
Hello everyone, welcome back to the dork side. It is I, your friendly neighborhood dork in the woods.
I'm out here with a little dork at Browns Camp and we're gonna putt around at the beginner loop.
Sorry about the sound in advance. Forgot my mic set up, so it's just the external camera on the
GoPro today. I know it can't hear me, I just don't know how well. And don't forget, I want
to be your internet writing buddy. And I'm better than any of your other writing buddies because
I'm available whenever you want. I come with a mute button. So don't forget to subscribe so you
can tune in for future dorky shenanigans like this. So I'm on my CRF250L. Little dork over here is on
her CRF110L. She just learned to shift and we're gonna go out and putt around a little bit on the
beginner loop. She's just gonna get her feet underneath her and get some practice in. So I
don't know how great of footage it's gonna be, but some of you expressed interest in seeing as she
learned and I think it'll be good to have it recorded so we can watch it later and see how
much she's progressed. So that's what we're gonna do. She's all geared up. Doesn't have a chest
protector or motocross boots yet, so we are not gonna go on any real trails. Just the beginner loop
and the practice area for now. Okay, I think this is like a little tiny trail. This is like a little
loop right here, I think. I think it just goes right there. Do you want to try this thing? Well, it's the
really good. There was a couple weird sections over there. You did good. Okay, well, you can do this
whole thing in second real easy. We'll do it in first a couple times, but I want you to go in
front of me. I'm afraid you're gonna fall down and I can't see and I'll just ride away. I'll stay far
behind you. I won't hit you. We're not going very fast. I promise I won't hit you. Okay, is it gonna
make you nervous if I'm watching? No. Okay, let's just go around a couple times. This is a really fun
little loop. I like it. It's a little bumpy. You're gonna learn to use your legs to absorb the bumps. You
stand up. You have not as much suspension as me, so you're definitely feeling the bumps a little
on your bum. All right, let's do it. Let's do the loop. So, this is the sand play area.
I didn't know it had this little trail behind it. So, we're trying this. She's doing good. She's
staying first. I'm trying to get her to use second gear more, but she's a little bit afraid of the
speed and she doesn't have the ability to like let off the clutch. Oh, okay. You all right?
What happened? Okay, you can always use your brake and slow down, babe. Were you afraid?
How come you fell? You gotta lean. Did you think you were gonna go off in the woods?
So, did you drop it on purpose? It's okay if you did. Okay, well just make sure you're using
your brakes. Starting to wish we've got a used bike. It's a joke. I'm kidding. All right, well,
it can't. It shouldn't sit on its side like that, so pick it up if you're okay. Just be careful.
Your speed is good. It's good that you're not afraid to go a little faster. Okay, you're getting
your battle scars on this thing. Don't forget about your brakes, okay? Did your elbow pads
work that time? Yeah, well, geez, I think maybe we need to get you some shoulder pads too. It's all right.
You gotta understand, kid, you've never even ridden anything motorized ever before, so
it's gonna take a little getting used to, but you're all right? You didn't hurt yourself?
Okay, pads are good. That's why we wear them. Tell you what, she's resilient. She doesn't get discouraged,
or at least she doesn't show it, which is almost as good as not getting discouraged.
Yeah, she's taking the bumpy path. This bike just eats it up. It goes real well. I'm impressed with it.
How are you feeling? Yeah, wow, you fell down. That always makes me feel shaky,
but riding and not falling makes me feel better. Well, they're easier. They're not so bumpy and
ruddy, but you're doing good. If you want, I'll follow you. Show me how it's done. This is actually
good practice for me. The slow speed stuff is what gets me every time, so I try to take it easy.
Yeah, she didn't put her foot down. She didn't put her foot down. She did it. This corner is stupid
tight. Look at her go. She's doing good. She doesn't know how good she's doing, but she's doing good.
It's not shifting, but neither am I at this point. There she goes. Okay, rear brake. You're pulling
on it too hard. You do that on the trail, you're going to fly off the bike, okay? So it's good to
know, but be gentle with it, okay? I'm worried about you. You should try to put it in second and
do a couple circles in second. You can do exactly what you're doing in second without going very
much faster. You can always just let off and stop. I was following you around in second and this bike
goes 75 miles an hour. She's trying to get it in second. Yeah, she's going faster. That's good.
She's doing good. She's doing a lot better, actually. I think it's cool looking. It's been sturdy so far.
How you doing? Yeah, I saw that. Good job.
Well, you can do it as much as you want. It's pretty nice that no one else is here, huh?
around. We'll stay on the road, but you can. That was great. You did a good job. Was that fun? Yeah,
it's pretty fun. See the deer? Cool, huh? Pretty neat. So, if any bikes come this way, we just get all
the way over to the right. You don't have to stop, though. If a car comes, we probably should stop,
but other bikers, they'll just stay on the right and then you'll see me go like this,
which tells them there's one more person behind me. Does that mean that you do it like this?
No, that's just like, hey buddy, this is how many people are behind you. So, I don't want you to
worry about taking your hand off the bars, but if you were, you just do this so they know there's
behind you, but I'll just do this so they know you're back there, okay? And they may show you
how many people are coming, but you stay steady on the bars, okay? You good? Going a little faster?
Yeah, I wondered how that was going to be for you. All right, well, you're just going to give
the bike power and it'll do the rest. It'll be fine. How did you do coming down? Did you just
keep your foot on the rear brake? Yeah, the engine will slow you down. Do you want to go across this
bridge? Okay, trick is just look at the other end. Don't look at the sides, okay? Put your feet,
yeah, like you're riding. Okay, let me get closer. This is a cool picture. If I can get the lake,
the pond in the background. Oh, yeah, totally can. Smile. So, we're going to turn around the
end of this bridge because it turns into trails. You want to go up that other section in front of
me? Well, it's not too bad. Well, you're just going to have to go forward. If you think about
it too much, you'll definitely screw up. So, you got to just trust the bike because it'll go up
it easy. That's, well, that'll happen. You just let it kind of move under you, okay? Don't, if
you're going to fight it too much, that's where you'll mess up. But if you kind of just let the
bike, the bike wants to go forward, I told you, right? There's no way out, but to go back up,
just go slow. You can first gear it if you need to. Just putt, putt. And it's not very steep,
so if you had to stop, you could. I just wouldn't recommend it because starting on the hill is hard.
I'm trying to avoid it, okay? Do you want to go in front so I can see you? Because I can't stop
and help you. I know, but I don't. Then I'll stop too and fall, just like you. All right,
should we turn around? You got to do it, babe. I don't know what else to tell you.
That's where we're at. I didn't remember it being that rocky. I'm sorry. I wouldn't have brought
you down here. We can stick to the road roads after this. It's no big deal. Just go slow and
steady, okay? That's all you got to do. Bike will do the rest. It's literally what they're built to
do. And if you have to, like, put your feet down and waddle a little bit, I mean, you can, but I
try not to. Try to keep your feet on it because you could catch your leg on the peg and I don't
want you to. It'll be fine. You're thinking about it too much. It's going to be easy. You're going
to be like, well, that was easy. Just got to do it. Nothing to it but to do it. Doing good on
the bridge. It's pretty awesome. Pretty hot and rocky uphill, but it's not too bad. Just learning.
Trial by fire, you know? You got it. Yeah, this isn't bad. This is not bad at all. Not bad at all.
Look at her go. The bike's doing all the work. Just trust it. Just trust that bike and let it do
it. So good. So good. She's doing so good. Yep. Make us super proud. No problem. No problem.
See, that was easy, right? Bike just goes. You just let it. That's what I've learned with these
things is like, whenever I'm like, oh no, I just go and the bike goes over it and I just keep going
and I'm fine. So this is our first day. We've only done the cul-de-sac. We're going down the street
in front of our house and a little field by the house. This is her first time in the woods,
riding the trails on her CRF110F. Doing pretty good. Getting in second gear. We're not moving
super fast yet, but okay, we're getting the basics down. She's learning how to go slow downhill.
There's no hills where she's been practicing. See? It's funny, the stuff that... That's good to see
the progress because like this thing, I wouldn't even think about it. Doesn't even cross my mind
that it might be tricky, but downhills are scary. I think they're scarier than uphills. I've always
felt more intimidated by steep downhills because on an uphill, if you let off the throttle, you
just stop. But on the downhill, it just keeps going. It'll be really good to have this footage
when she gets better, for her to see it.
