Join Us Dinner For Two Plus You in our RV Motorhome, we are nearing the end of our Trans Canada Highway road trip 2019, Toronto to Vancouver. We talk over dinner about our experience traveling from Kamloops to Chilliwack in British Columbia on Trans Canada Highway 1through the stunning scenery, mountains and tunnels and reflect on the trip and the positive impact on us. The distance to date is 4,629 km (2,876 miles), in one day we have to give back the rental motorhome camper van RV to Canadream in Delta, British Columbia.
So this is a soy protein dinner, so we have a turkey scallop, mashed garlic, herby mashed potatoes, and veggies.
Cheers. Looks great.
And you know what, Norm, we've had a fantastic day today.
That highway down from Kamloops to Chilliwack was one of the best experiences we've had on this whole trip.
Unbelievable. The scenery was absolutely stunning, you know.
If you ever get a chance to come on the Trans-Canada Highway, or even at the minimum BC, then just do it.
Coming down the highway, it was phenomenal.
We were eating dinner so late because we kept stopping.
Every five minutes there was a new view to see.
But that's because there was so much to see, Norm.
So this is how we have most of our evenings. Beer, and a wine, and a great dinner.
Cheers. And you know what, today far exceeded my expectations of what the scenic route was.
I never could have imagined it would be like it was.
It really was. We hadn't done the total research.
We just knew that coming down Highway 1 rather than Highway 5 would be more scenic.
We did a search on Expedia and TripAdvisor.
They were all talking about the tunnels that you saw us going through.
And people were saying, take the scenic route, but don't take it if it's winter, so we're into spring here.
I'll be honest, I wouldn't like to have done that route in winter.
I don't think you would have.
That would have been really scary.
But sometimes we were, I would say at least 500 to 600 feet above the river.
I wasn't sure whether it was the Thompson or Fraser River.
I don't know, it looked like we were really high up.
And it was scary looking to see that.
Anyway, this is our second to last night on the trip.
We really thank you all for following us.
It's been a trip of a lifetime for us.
Absolutely wonderful.
For 26 years we've had this.
We've lived in Canada and not done this, have we?
But it was always something we wanted to do.
And we're fortunate that we have retired.
And this RV motorhome has been the ticket to it.
And it's been absolutely fantastic.
So whether you live in Canada, the US, or the UK, or Europe, or whatever,
if you get the opportunity to come over here to experience our wonderful country of Canada,
please come because it is unbelievable.
Honestly, having done the Trans-Canada Highway now,
well, 99% of it.
Yeah, we're not quite there yet, Norm.
We've got another 150 kilometres-ish to go to tomorrow.
But we can say that if you were looking for one of those trips of a lifetime,
either go coast to coast on the Trans-Canada Highway,
if you don't have the time to do that,
do Toronto to Vancouver,
or just come over to Vancouver, get a flight, rent the RV.
Just do Vancouver to Calgary if you don't have time to do the whole Trans-Canada.
Just do between Vancouver and Calgary, or Calgary and Vancouver.
We've bumped into people who literally are spending one and two weeks doing around there.
There is so much to see.
So here we are, having dinner in Chilliwack, British Columbia.
We didn't do a lot of miles, but it took a long time.
Because we kept stopping, Norm.
There was so much to see on this highway that we couldn't not stop.
It was too beautiful to not stop.
All gorgeous pictures and videos.
So here we are, Chilliwack, BC, in a Walmart.
Hopefully they'll let us stay overnight.
We haven't paid for one night of camping.
Not that we wouldn't do that, it's just that it's worked out so well for us.
And we must say, a real plus to Walmart, both in Canada and the US,
is that it's a wonderful thing that they do.
Allowing people with RVs to stay in their parking lots.
And the plus side is that we all shop in their stores.
We got all our food from Walmart.
We could have maybe bought it cheaper somewhere else.
But you don't.
Why would we?
You're going to support who's letting you stay for the night.
It's been absolutely fantastic.
So we have one more day to go to get into Vancouver.
So that we can be near the drop-off on Monday night.
Because we're going to drop this RV off on Tuesday at 8 o'clock.
I know.
Hopefully they've got the message that they need to take us to the airport.
For our flight back to Toronto.
Pretty quick.
Tuesday night in a small house.
Right away.
Got another day to come.
Join us on that.
Now we're not sure what we're going to be doing tomorrow.
No.
But we'll figure something out.
Thanks for having dinner with us in our RV.
With our fake turkey scallops.
And garlic mashed potatoes.
It's awesome.
It really is.
The temperature is beginning to drop more.
It was really hot today.
But I think...
We actually put the air conditioning on in the RV for the very first time.
I'll give you a clue.
We're going to put the furnace on tonight to make sure we're all nice and warm and toasty.
Yeah, as soon as Tina goes to bed I'll turn these off.
