What's up everybody and welcome back the channel for today's video
I made it here in Whistler at the top of Lords of the squirt. It's a super iconic trail
I've only ridden it once years ago mostly because the climb is steep. It's very long and I hate pedaling
But I've got a brand new bike that makes things a little bit easier
I'll tell you about it after at the end of the video for now
Let's go biking because I'm getting eaten alive by those mosquitoes
Okay, let's go to Whistler
So we are going to head to the very top of this mountain
First we're gonna leave the car here at Little Lake Lodge, which is where I'm gonna stay tonight
You're buying? I'm buying, okay
Okay, that's gonna be the easiest part of the ride
Okay, let's see how much elevation and how many kilometer we do today, let's go
Yeah
The hard part starts right now
The fun part for you Jack
For me, it's a reason why
I'll retire from mountain biking earlier than I want to just because I don't like the uphills
Actually, I have two tanky bikes for that because they definitely
Extended my passion for biking
So I'm leading in the climb and it is not because I'm faster than Jack it's just so I can slow down Jack and
Pace myself a little bit more
so far the bike is very
Comfortable to pedal though
Hey
Okay, I'll see you in six hours of the car
It's a very nice climb actually
So we've been climbing since an hour and 20 minutes we've done 11 kilometers about 680 meter of elevation
Jack on his tie is still doing pretty good and me I'm surviving
Just a walk in the park for you
Don't fall this time Jack
Jack had a crash going uphill
Lost his balance, didn't end clip
You doing alright Jack?
Okay, I believe that's the highest point
1,300 meters of elevation 18 kilometers 2 hours 35 we took it easy took a bunch of picture a couple of videos
Having a bike that pedals this well is definitely
pretty cool makes
Pedaling and getting to the alpine a bit more enjoyable. What do you think?
Well, hopefully Jack that's why I come here
Okay, see you at the bottom
That's a bit ambitious
So I always ride a bike with more travel such as the tire or the spindrift
but
Having a 130 150 travel bike
29er
Makes a lot of the riding that would be
Bowing on a big travel bike more interesting
Sorry, I don't know what I was thinking I
just
Didn't really anticipate the corner. I looked at the tree. I went straight for the tree
Such a fun bike, so this is my first ride on it
So I need to get used a little bit to the setup
Brakes are still not perfectly bedded
Exo tire on the front, which is very new for me
Swiss City on the back
So quite different from my usual setup
Hey, thanks a lot
Trial is running. Oh, buddy. How are you?
Good
Thank you, it's running mint
Wow
It's really really good. I mean, it's my first time doing it in seven or eight years. So I don't have much to compare to
But yeah, yeah, it's pretty perfect
Thank you guys have a good one
Thanks a lot. Have a good one. Thank you guys
Such a fun loop
The trail is pretty epic right now. It's very nice
That was a rock
Yeah riding a smaller travel bike full 29er
Makes me really enjoy
The trails that are a bit mellower
Making them a little bit more challenging
Before we keep on riding for helmets Jack and I we both use the same helmet. That's a specialized tactic
I've done a video about it. And also you can find it discounted right now on Jenson USA
So make sure you check out the link in description and for glasses Jack's got the Jumbo Fury
Whereas me I've got something special. I'll tell you more in a couple of weeks
As Jack said, il pleut
which means
It's raining
so bike is really easy to jump around and
You know get the transition
That way you get to carry good speed and have a smoother ride.
I find the bike extremely playful
Even though that's a 29er
Nothing beats the forest of Whistler in my opinion
Sorry buddy
We haven't seen much wildlife
Unless you count the mosquitoes as a wildlife then it was a freaking zoo up there
Originally, I wasn't even going to order a Eugene because it's not the type of bike I normally use. I like the capability of
The Tai of the spindrift especially because they pedal really well, but having a full 29er
130-150 travel like definitely climbs better
It's pretty noticeable. I mean I had to wait for you for quite some time
But now, you know being able to run like a bit lighter tires, harder compound on the back so it rolls faster
Exoplus on the front. I'm actually super impressed
I was expecting a lot more flex on the front wheel and especially with 21 psi it
Feels like really solid. I don't feel like it flexes too much
So no, I've been really really enjoying it and the 29er often people ask me why I run a mullet
A mullet is gonna be of course more playful and on big compression
You can squat lower when it's really steep. It's easier to go behind the rear axle, especially for someone that's 5'7 like me
But I have no problem whatsoever turning a 29er bike and on a trail like this where there's no big compression
It's not very steep. I do really enjoy the 29er. It definitely carries more speed than a mullet
I'm gonna see really surprised by the Maxxterra on the back
It grips much better than I expected it
Of course it's dry and it's hot
But still
And that's it
But the video is not finished
We're gonna check out Trailforks and see what we ride from here. I think Pura Vida would be a good option
it's a single black diamond trail and
Would be a good way to ride this bike on something a bit
gnarlier
Ok Jack, Pura Vida
So I've ridden all those trails but a long time ago, I barely ride Whistler trails anymore
Mostly because the climb is too steep but now I might have a good excuse to come back
Jack you should definitely go right
I'm joking
I don't know what's up here
I don't know Jack. I don't know if you'll do that. Yeah, it's pretty spicy
Yeah, exactly, yeah. Well my way is cooler because not crashing and hurting yourself is cool. Yeah
That's that's very true
Wow
All new
The signage is really well done here
Hey Jack, I got an idea
How about you try my bike?
Sure, you're a bit heavier than I am
But I typically run my suspension a bit stiffer than most people so you might
You might enjoy it a lot
We use the same pedal by the way
Time special 10 so
And we got same brakes too. You just poorly set them up
That's it and the same bars as well
So I'm on a size medium and Jack typically rides a size large
Is it the bike that can turn Jack or is it you?
Actually
Nice
So, what do you think?
Surprised how well it managed those tight corners. Yeah, but this is a size medium
So the reach is a bit shorter than yours. Obviously you run a longer stem wider bars, but yeah
I could feel it really wanted to go
You know, the biggest thing is actually the bars are narrower. Yeah. Yeah, I run 738 and what do you have 760?
Yeah, I don't know they're pretty wide but I think actually they're too wide
Yeah. Yeah, most people run their bar too wide when you buy a handlebar you're supposed to cut them to
Your preferred length, but most people don't know what their preferred length is. So yeah, I have a neighbor who recommended to me
What length I should yeah
Is it that same neighbor that got you the helmet, the glasses, the brakes, you know, the mother girl, the pedals
The only thing you didn't get me is the t-shirt, which is my wife's. Yeah, but I can't even tell you know fits you really well
And we are back
At Nita Lake Lodge. I'm gonna stay here with my girlfriend have some good food and Jack is gonna drive my truck back to Squamish
And feed dinner to the kids
Okay, I hope you enjoyed the video on Lords of the Squirrel
This trail was incredible. My expectations were not super high because the last time I did it
I don't remember having a really fun time. So long story short. I'm glad I did it especially on this bike
So before I'm gonna tell everything there is to know about the new Propane Eugene 3 CF
I'm gonna share with you two discount codes
The first one is for Nita Lake Lodge
If you wish to stay in Whistler in a nice hotel in a place that's quiet that's got food option close by a lake
I highly recommend Nita Lake Lodge
You can use my code Remy that will get you a discount if you book
Before the end of the bike park season and now if you wish to purchase this bike
You can use the code Remy free shipping
It's gonna give you free shipping for the first few weeks of this bike releasing which is today Thursday July 31st
so
You probably wonder why I needed to get another bike when I have so many in my garage already
Well, typically with the type of riding I do
It's really steep. It's gnarly and I want to ride a mullet bike and my focus is a performance going downhill
Well, I've realized that I don't do enough pedaling uphill
typically
The only time I enjoy pedaling on a bike is either on my e-bike because I get to go to the top of the hill
Fast and then I get to enjoy the downhill with the same feelings and on a regular bike
Oh, and this might sound weird but on my road bike
I actually really enjoy road biking and when I have to pedal if I only have one hour I
Usually prefer to go for a road bike ride than a mountain bike ride but
propane just came out with this bike and
It is a fully new bike compared to the previous Eugene I've been riding
I'm gonna tell you what changed on it, but
What's important to notice is that this is a full 29er bike
It is lighter and it's not as capable as a Tahit or Spindrift that you typically see me ride
And the reason why I'm excited about that is because first of all, it's made to pedal and to go faster on the uphill
An area where I guess I struggle I'm not super confident going uphill. I'm not actually bad
I just really don't enjoy it
So having a bike that's gonna pedal better gonna be lighter is going to be for me a good motivation
to simply ride mountain biking more than I currently do and the second thing is
I find a lot of enjoyment on
fast flow trails with big jumps or really gnarly trails
when the trails are
fairly average
technical blues or maybe light single black trails
I don't find that much fun riding them
Especially when I'm riding my Spindrift or my Tahit because it doesn't represent much of a challenge
So having a bike that's gonna be lighter more playful
Less capable I would say on the technical and gnarly section because it's not made for that actually brings me
a lot of satisfaction
Riding Lords of the Scroll was a great example. It's a trail that's pretty simple
There's nothing crazy as you probably saw I didn't do much jumping
There was no big compression nothing steep and if I had to ride my Spindrift on that
I'll be a little bit bored
So having a bike that's gonna give me more feel was something pretty exciting
the bike
is pedaling really well, obviously, it's designed for that and
One of the main reason why Propel wanted to come out with this new
Eugene 3 CF is to really make the difference with the other bike on the range
You've got the Tahit which is your full-on enduro bike, the Spindrift which is a big enduro
Freeride bike, bike park bike then obviously the Rage which is a downhill bike
but there was a lot of confusion for people on whether they should buy a Eugene,
a Tahit or a Spindrift and so Propel has wanted to make the difference in between each model more clear
I think they've done a great job. This bike is
You know, it's your light trail bike. It's not a down country. It's more capable than this
It still wants to go fast. It wants to
Be playful. You can really push on it, but it has less travel only one 30 millimeter on the back
You don't have the option to ride it as a mullet because this bike is made for the people who
You know want to pedal fast
They want to get a workout and they focus on the physical aspect while having a bike that still can descend well
it's not gonna be as
easy to ride downhill as
A Spindrift or a Tahit, but it's not the focus of this bike. I think this bike is going to excel on places like
Sedona or Moab
Camberland in British Columbia on the lower grade trail of Squamish, for example
Anything that's a blue trail or a single black trail
Anguillem, Pseudo Suga
The trails that are actually the most ridden here are not the Supernali trail you see in videos and
Yeah, I think Propen did a really cool job
I actually had a lot of fun for me moving a bike that's a full 29er is not a problem I find
Very easy to corner the bike mostly because of the geometry we'll talk about it in a second
But the center of gravity is low
The bike is really balanced making it easy to pop around to turn
The big issue I've had with 29er in the past is when it gets super steep and gnarly
Being smaller, I'm 5'7 and having shorter legs
Well, it's harder for me to put my butt behind the rear axle and feel confident
But this bike I'm not gonna ride it down Guranga or down the craziest terrain
I'm going to focus on more physical riding. I think it's a bike that I'm gonna be using more for
Social purposes when I go with friends of mine like Jack that are fitter than me and faster uphill
But I'm a better rider going downhill
I think this bike is gonna be great for that when I visit places that don't have gnarly terrain
This is gonna be a great option. So overall I've been super stoked
I think you probably could tell in the video. I was having a really really fun day. Now, let's move to
all the technicalities
Geometry and also the parts that I've changed on this bike to make it more fitted for what I want to do
So let's talk details. As I mentioned this bike is only available as a 29er
Obviously all the sizes small, medium, large, extra large
Only available in carbon, but the price is pretty attractive
It starts at 3,400 euros in Europe and 3,800 US dollar in North America
It's available in some really rad color. Not sure how this one is called, but looks pretty cool
It is wrapped with a ride wrap. This is a matte
wrap on it and
It looks really sleek
I typically receive the bike with the stickers on before and so the ride wrap goes on top of the stickers
But this is the first time I actually got the bike without the stickers
We applied the ride wrap and put the stickers on top
I'm not sure what I prefer, but either way, it looks really cool. Now in terms of
Geometry, this is my own bike. Obviously, it's a size medium. I'm 5'7 and the reach with a 140mm fork is
458 millimeters. Myself, I've opted for a 150 so all the geometry number
I'm gonna give you are based on the 140mm fork, not on my own setup
Headtube angle 64.8. So it's pretty slick for a bike that's only
170 millimeter of travel on the back. It gives you wheelbase of roughly
1,225 millimeter which makes the bike quite stable
despite being
such a small travel bike
Other things that's important to notice
The seat tube is now a little bit steeper than it used to be. I think the effective
Angle is 77.5. When I pedaled this bike, even though the access to Lord of the Squirrels
I think it's called Into the Mystic has got some really steep section
I felt really good, really comfortable on this bike. The pedaling was
easy. I
run my bars definitely a little bit lower than I do on most bikes just because
With this setup, I'm looking at going faster on the uphill and I'm looking at making the position
for pedaling more enjoyable instead of maximizing
the capacity of the bike going downhill, but I still made a setup that's gonna work well if I ride aggressively
So now let's look at
Some of the updates that Propane has made. You've got
Storage, I'm not sure how a bike, I guess it's called a bike frame storage
So below my water bottle you can just unclip
This
Yeah, whatever it's called I think you understood what I mean
But long story short, you can storage stuff inside the down tube of your frame, a tube, some food, some tools
Whatever you want. So this is
something pretty cool. For
Cable routing you got three options. You go through the headset
Classic like I did through the down tube or with the six-pack option from Propane
I think it looks really clean. There is no noise whatsoever
Propane has really improved the way the cables go inside the frame
One thing I have to say if you watch the video it sounds a little bit noisy
And I was wondering what was the noise on my bike. It's actually the little tool I had on my top pick
bottle cage that wasn't properly secure as it should have been and
I guess I didn't notice until I got to the car, but this bike is super quiet
I rode it since
All the things that Propane has made, the chainstay protector has been improved a lot as well as the down tube protection
Just to make the bike looking more sleek
You still have the linkage that's carbon and you don't need any brake adapter to mount a 180 millimeter disc
Which is probably what you would want to ride on this bike. I think that's about it
We talked about how the bike rides
During the video I was making some comments, but overall I was surprised by how capable it is
Despite being such a short travel bike
There's a lot of support in the suspension even though my setup was pretty soft
I didn't feel any arch bottom out and the bike wanted to go fast
mostly due of
the 29er wheels
I really enjoyed how it cornered and yeah, I found it very easy to ride
I got along with it right away and you can tell it's a Propane. It still has a Pro-10
Suspension platform and I was just really stuck on how it rides. Now, let me show you some of the parts I've
Changed on this setup. So
Let's start with the cockpit. I've got a one up 35 millimeter rise V2 carbon bars
You've seen me riding a 50 millimeter on my Spindrift on my Shresh SL
But on this bike, I don't want to be as high as on the other bike since I'm riding more middle-earth terrain
So the 35 gives me a really good position and it's a bit more flexy
It's paired with a 35 millimeter stem. For brakes, I didn't change anything other than the size of the rotor on the back
I've got the Ace Dominion A4 with sintered brake pads. For suspension, this is the Diamond
From DVO 150 mil
I run it
Much softer than I would normally run
But once again is because this bike is not going to leave the ground much
I'll still do the occasional jumps and gaps, but it's not the focus. I want to have a bike that's comfortable and that pedals quick
For wheels, I've got the Nobel TR 37 with the Project 321
I love those wheels because they are really reliable, but they roll really fast
They have some good flexibility
Lateral in order to make the bike not too uncomfortable, but still very quick
The big thing now, the tires
This is probably the first time you see me riding a Maxxis DHR2 on the front
I tried in the past, probably in 2016 when I joined Maxxis
And I wasn't a fan. I just preferred the Assa guy back then
Well
I wanted a tire that's gonna roll fast, but still give me confidence on hilly terrain
So I opted for a DHR2. This tire has won
many world cups
On the downhill circuit on the front, so it does work on the front, but it was personal preference
And this was my first time in years riding it on the front wheel and I was actually really surprised I felt
I felt confident right away. I felt like I could feel the grip
So I might actually
Try it on some other bikes
See how I get along on other setups where I'm really familiar
I've got an EXO plus which is also new simply to save weight. I wanted a lighter tire
But I was very surprised by how much support the EXO plus has
And I was only riding 21 psi on the front
On the back I've opted for a DHR2 as I always do, double down casing
So I'm familiar with this tire, but one big thing I changed. This is my first time in ages
Riding a 3c Terra. So on the front I've got 3c grip just to get traction
But on the back I went for a 3c Terra to get a bike that's gonna simply pedal faster
there is
a better
Rolling speed with a harder compound. Obviously if it's soft it kind of slows you down especially on the pavement
But with a stiffer compound it does roll faster
And it was pretty noticeable especially on the access road before you actually get onto the trails
pedal
Didn't change a thing. My time special 10. For the cranks
We've got a 30T oval chainring from Rotor with a 165 cc crank
another thing that
Propane has changed
The c-tube insertion. I know it's been a complaint in the past from some customer
It's never been an issue for me because I prefer to run a 180 millimeter post regardless
But if I wanted I could go for a 210 on this bike
No problem, as I can drop the insertion all the way at the bottom, but the 180
Fits me really well, and I'm really happy with that
I know where my seat is at the lowest position and the highest position and I like to keep it consistent with every bike
Other things that we got we got a KMC 12 speed
SL chain
With a Shimano XT transmission that I purchased on Jensen USA
You can find this link in the description when you do purchase using that link that supports me. So thanks so much for that
Grips Ergon GDH
Same as on every single bike I own
SM Enduro also
From Ergon, but I've got the carbon rail just to make the bike lighter
Talking about making the bike lighter. This bike is roughly 14 kilos
And as you notice, I don't have a chain guide also to save some weight. I think that's about it. I mentioned the
Topic bottle cage. I've got the muddugger. I went for the shorter version this time
Just because it's summer
Hopefully we well, I guess no we need some rain because of the wildfire but for biking we don't want too much rain either
I guess that's it trying to keep this video
Simple if you have any question, if I forgot anything, please let me know in the comment below
I'll do my best to reply to it
If you enjoy the video simply subscribe leave me a like comment really helps out
A lot and when you use that link that does support. So thanks so much for that
Don't forget the code REMYFREESHIPPING for the new Propane Eugene 3 CF
Thanks for that. See you next week
