‘El Turco’ powers through for his ninth straight win, building a strong lead in the Championship 🤩
Race 2 of the 2025 Prosecco D.O.C. UK round gets underway.
Good start from Samlos, another poor start for Niccolo Bulliger.
Alvaro Bautista, his teammate, passes him in the rundown towards Turn 1,
and Bautista straight up into the podium spot,
trying to clamp down on Andrea Locatelli,
who's forcing his way through on the inside.
It's top-rack Razgatlioglu who leads,
with Samlos keeping him close company.
Andrea Locatelli third, Alvaro Bautista up to fourth,
and ahead of his teammate Niccolo Bulliger.
Always the first overtaking opportunity of the lap
is into the old hairpin.
Andrea Locatelli was almost alongside Samlos,
but couldn't quite get there.
Los holding on then for second position,
and now Samlos starting to mount an attack
on top-rack Razgatlioglu as well.
Yeah, and you can see here off the line once again,
Bulliger drops down to fifth,
as Sam gets a great run there on Razgatlioglu,
not able to do anything with it at that point,
but for Bulliger, fifth, and already a lot of work to do.
Samlos have the run coming off Turn 7,
but it's single file through there.
He's got a better opportunity off Coppice
and under heavy braking in towards the Fogatiesses,
but of course, top-rack is equal to him
and strong through there.
Andrea Locatelli being dropped off slightly in third position.
Alvaro Bautista now with the run
as they head down towards the Melbourne hairpin
on lap number one.
Bautista positions himself nicely on the inside
and carves his way through into a podium place
for the first time this weekend.
Hard rear tires for Los and Bautista
in those top three positions,
so that's going to help them as the race progresses.
And we know how strong Alvaro Bautista is
in the latter stages.
Realistically, we anticipate Bautista's fight
to be with Samlos,
so it's key that he's got through on Andrea Locatelli,
and now he can see his direct rival in this race
up ahead of him in second position.
Meanwhile, practically four abreast coming off the Fogatiesses
as Jonathan Wray tried to defend eighth position.
Well, seventh, eighth, ninth, tenth,
I'm not sure quite which one they're all going to end up in here.
Five riders in the mix,
and Michael van der Mark says,
thank you very much.
Through from twelfth, I think, to tenth now,
and making further progress on the tail of Dominic Aegeta.
Ryan Vickers covering the inside.
Jonathan Wray has got bundled out of the top ten altogether.
That's a real shame for Jonathan Wray,
because we know he's had the pace
to go with Andrea Locatelli this weekend so far,
but he's ended up down the order in this one.
Meanwhile, Andrea Locatelli loses out
in the run towards turn one at the start of lap number three.
Bulliger now will go after his teammate Alvaro Bautista,
and we expect him to have the significant pace advantage.
Will he be able to utilize it on this lap number three?
Bulliger goes to the inside, into the Melbourne hairpin.
Alvaro Bautista cuts back and recovers third place.
Locatelli not close enough up his error
through the esses earlier on in this lap.
So Bautista is back in P3, lives to fight another day.
But while these two are scrapping it out,
Sam Lowe escapes away 1.3 seconds clear in second place.
Bulliger passes Bautista,
and the two teammates hardly doing one another too many favors
as they come now into lap number four.
Yeah, there's someone down at one of the leaders.
And it's going to be Sam Lowe from second position.
Top-rack Razgaf Lioglu goes through.
What a shame for Sam.
He was doing such a good job
to keep up with top-rack at the head of the field.
So that promotes Niccolo Bulliger into second position.
But the gap is already the best part of two seconds,
and it's a similar tale to what we've seen in race one
and the Superpole race for Niccolo Bulliger.
But a little bit different now
just because it's the longer race
and he's got more of an opportunity.
But for Sam Lowe's here in second,
it was just one of those you're trying to push down
and you're going to attack Razgaf Lioglu,
and that's what you have to do
whenever you're riding on the limit for it.
Mistake for Sam, at least he had the podium this morning.
Jonathan Wray through now on Michael van der Mark.
That's only for 12th position.
I was just going to remark
that Eggert is now only two tenths of a second
from Andrea Iannone and look right with him
as they came down the hill
in towards the Melbourne hairpin turn 11.
So lap 11 begins.
Razgaf Lioglu, two seconds clear of Bulliger.
That looks like game over.
Bautista three seconds further back in third.
Two seconds back from him, Andrea Locatelli.
Well, let's see what's happened here
between Scott Redding and Michael van der Mark.
Redding gets his way through,
and then van der Mark's going to answer straight back
with a block pass.
I did say he's a robust rider in defense,
Michael van der Mark.
Should be a matter of time, though,
before Scott Redding is passed
because he does seem to be significantly faster.
Jonathan Wray's escaping away from van der Mark
at a rate of half a second a lap.
So Redding has another go into the Melbourne hairpin.
We've already seen the replay of his first attempt there.
This time he's got it stopped and through.
We'll see if van der Mark is close enough
to respond into Goddard on lap 15.
It doesn't look like it this time around.
Redding goes in a little bit deep
but not deep enough to open the door for van der Mark,
and Scott Redding now is through for 13th place.
Oh, big moment for Andre Iannone,
almost goes up the back of Garrett Gerloff ahead of him.
So that's the first major change we've had
in this battle for fifth position.
Iannone's going to go behind Dominic Egeta now,
who's up into seventh.
And meanwhile, it looked like Garrett Gerloff
had really reeled in Danilo Petricci ahead of him.
Not quite close enough for the moment,
but that will free him up
because he isn't now under attack
from behind from Iannone.
It's either the track limits warning for Toprak.
That means that if he exceeds track limits again,
he will be given a long lap penalty.
Let's see if it was just what happened
through the gravel at the foggy S's.
You can see they're just touching
the green pane through there.
And Toprak needs to be careful
for the rest of this race
as we move into the last four and a half laps.
Yes, fair enough for a warning.
But can you imagine getting a penalty for that one?
It looks like basically perfect riding, doesn't it?
But Toprak-Razgat-Dioglou,
three and a half seconds clear.
So hey, that would give us a good finish, wouldn't it?
Bautista right on the tail of Bulliger.
Take three seconds off Razgat-Dioglou
and we can have a photo finish between them.
We see the riders making their way through.
Remy Gardner in the background of that shot
behind Dominic Egeta.
So Gardner up into ninth place.
And as you can see on the timing screen,
Ryan Vickers is now down in 11th position.
This is the move that I talked about.
This was Andre Iannone getting through on Dominic Egeta.
That was for seventh position.
And there's been another one somewhere
with Ryan Vickers dropping down to 11th place
behind Gardner and also Ika Lekwuna.
So again, Vickers missing out on a top-10 finish
that he's had the pace to have top-10 finishes
in all of the races this weekend.
Yes, just dropping down into the 29s last time around.
So maybe just got bundled out of the way a little bit.
But for Ryan, it's been a really strong weekend all the same.
Lekwuna's actually done well to come away
and get himself into the top-10 there at this stage
as we get to see what happened.
And yes, for Ryan, just runs in deep into the Melbourne Loop.
The door's open for Ika and he just comes through.
Alvaro Bautista making another couple of tenths of a second
in the first sector of this lap.
Bulliger responding later on.
So the gap between them will be eight-tenths of a second
by the looks of things going into the final lap or so here.
That said, Bulliger can't afford to put a foot wrong here.
He's being kept honest by Bautista in a way that he hasn't
by his two-time world champion teammate
at any other time really this season.
And you can see on the run down through
in towards the old hairpin, that gap's down
and it's in around half a second now.
So Alvaro really is trying to give himself a chance here
and he's getting closer and closer all the time.
Probably doesn't have quite enough time left in this one
but it's good to see that fight from Alvaro.
And the closer he gets, the more confident he'll feel
to push and have a real go here.
There are a couple of opportunities
but he needs to be a lot closer than this.
Turn 9 is the first, turn 11 is probably the last.
The gap is half a second.
Yeah, it's too far at this stage.
He'll need to be like a qualifying run through the S's
but at least for Alvaro, he's been able to dig in
and show something here at the end of this one.
Three-tenths of a second now, the gap between
Niccolo Bulliger and Alvaro Bautista.
This is crucial in the context of the World Championship.
Bit of a slide though coming off the Fogarty S's from Bautista.
He's not quite close enough.
Yeah, with that X tyre,
Bulliger's just got no tyre and look at Bautista.
He might get a chance into Goddard's
and just force the issue.
Boy, did Bautista want that but still,
he's not going to be close enough
in the run through the final turn
and Niccolo Bulliger holds on.
Bautista hoping to make the cut back here.
It'll be Toprak Razgatlioglu,
the first rider to manage three hat-tricks
at a single venue here at Donington Park.
Toprak does it and for the first time in 2025,
Toprak Razgatlioglu is your championship leader.
Just over a tenth of a second
between Niccolo Bulliger and Alvaro Bautista
for second, Andrea Locatelli
fourth ahead of Petrucci, Gerloff and Iannone.
Then it's Dominique Kekita,
that's Remy Gardner crossing the line
ahead of Ikhlaq Werner
and side-by-side for eleventh,
Ryan Vickers just holding on
ahead of a resurgent Scott Redding
on that final lap.
Ryan Vickers just ever-aging time
on the last few laps there.
Vierke Montella and Jonathan Ray
are the last of your scorers
and you wouldn't believe that's the same Jonathan Ray
that finished fifth and sixth
in the first two races this weekend.
Yeah, it just goes to show the importance
of being able to get to the front
and stay at the front in those early laps
but great performance this weekend
from Toprak, retakes the championship lead
for the first time since the end of last season
and for Razgatlioglu,
this triple is going to mean a lot.
He said yesterday that getting that tenth win
wasn't what his target was for this weekend.
It was coming away with the hat trick.
