The new school year is approaching for
many students across Western
Massachusetts. And 22 News reporter
Aretta Odia spoke with local students
and parents to see how they're feeling
ahead of the new year.
>> I'm feeling good to go back to school.
>> Many mixed emotions with back to school
just days away.
>> Feeling ready hopefully like every no
drama, no nothing. Like good positive
attitude, energy, everything.
>> From a vacation mindset back to
classroom learning. For some, it's going
to be an adjustment.
>> I'm a little nervous for back to school.
>> While Gianna is nervous, for her, a big
help with easing back into school has
been playing sports at Chipe High.
>> It's really inclusive. So, overall cheer
and track together. Like, I just make so
many new friendships. It's really
helpful.
>> In addition to extracurriculars, experts
say to learn actively by asking
questions in class and to build time
management skills. For parents,
developing a morning and night routine,
creating a study area in the house and
meeting your child's teachers can help
reduce anxiety for back to school
season. This motheraughter duo are ready
to take on one last high school year,
but are also nervous for the unknown.
>> I've always wanted to go into some sort
of arts and I've always had like
difficulty being like, do I want to do
this? Do I want to do this? If
originally I wanted to be a costume
designer,
>> back to school shopping, supplies, you
know, just career, where are you
planning on going? just making sure she
has all the resources she needs. It's
scary because, you know, she's going to
be an adult. You know, she's moving on,
but can't stop them, you know.
>> Several local districts, including
Springfield, Holy Oak, and Wear public
schools, students in grades 1 through 12
start back on Monday. And one student I
spoke to said it very well. Take it all
one day at a time. working for you.
