Hey guys, this is Jenna with ResortTV1. Today we're here at the Polynesian and we get something
very special today. We are going to check out the brand new Island Tower here at the Polynesian,
the DVC Island Tower. So I cannot wait to share it with you guys. So we're going to get to tour
some of the rooms, the lobby, the pool, even try some food at the new restaurant. So let's go have
beautiful occasion, the grand opening of this beautiful resort.
And how about, how about our drummers? Can we get a round of applause for them?
You're going to see them a little bit later, but right now just enjoy, mingle, relax. We're coming
out there to talk to you. There's going to be some food a little bit later. We're waiting a little bit
for some of our other friends. We've got Auntie over here. Auntie, how are you feeling today?
Oh, you were very loud. You just woke up everybody in here, Auntie.
No, the drummers woke them up. I just told them that they're hungry. It's time to get food,
everyone. Get out of bed. Good to see you. We're happy to celebrate with you today. Let's have a
good time. We have some breakfast here this morning. Look how good all of this looks.
Oh my goodness. Yummy pastries here.
Jams to put on the pastries.
Here's the food as the drummers are playing. Everything looks so good.
So, hi everyone. I am Auntie Lulu. This is my very, very talented nephew, Matt.
Auntie, you forgot handsome. Yes, yes I did. Okay, we are honored to join all of you on this
beautiful happy morning. It's the maiden voyage of Villain Tower, Disney Villas and Bungalows.
Isn't it beautiful? Oh, you haven't even seen the best part of it yet. Don't worry about it.
You will be able to experience little touches of the rich cultures and landscapes across the
Pacific islands, but you will also discover an adventurous heart. One that beats inside
all Polynesian people. It is the heart of the Wayfinder. Oh, Auntie, that's exactly. I'm glad
you said that because I was just going to talk about that. You know, our island people, they
many years ago, thousands of years ago actually, went out and discovered uncharted waters in hopes
to find new islands and new life. These voyagers traveled on canoes just like these ones here.
These outrigger canoes and these voyagers were called Wayfinders. Thank you so much. Thank you
so much. Good morning everyone. Welcome home. So, oh my gosh, the Polynesian Resort is just a Disney
classic and a fan favorite. Obviously, the great views of Seven Seas Lagoon,
the quick jump right over to Magic Kingdom, and of course, the great firework views.
And I'm so happy to say that the Island Tower is just a very worthy addition to this, you know,
historic and great property here at Polynesian. With the Island Tower, they're all brand new
accommodation styles. One and two bedroom villas, two bedroom penthouse suites, and duo studios,
and it adds the first all-electric restaurant here at Walt Disney World as well. So amazing.
A new gym and what do you see? I know you're going to see the terrace gardens as well
with amazing views. So, all brand new storytelling as well. So, when you think about the inspiration
for the design of the Island Tower, it really builds on the stories of Polynesian Wayfinders,
which you'll hear a lot about, and conservation as well as Disney stories, of course, specifically
and really leaning into our own Polynesian princess, Moana. So, with her, you'll see her
character woven throughout the design of the resort. So, bottom line is we are so proud of
this addition to the Polynesian and I really, really hope you have a wonderful sneak peek over
the next several hours and days here before we open it up to all of our members and our
new guests next Tuesday. So, with that, Allison, I want to turn it over to you. What are your
thoughts on the resort? Thank you, Bill. I have to say I am just thrilled to be welcoming the Island Tower
to the portfolio of resorts here at Walt Disney World. It is so exciting for us. This resort
truly honors the legacy of our past. It's actually bringing to life visions first
dreamt by our Imagineers decades ago and it's giving us so much inspiration for the future
and the design of this 10-story resort is truly magnificent. It is absolutely brimming with
original artwork that truly blends the natural elements with the stories of wayfinding and our
signature Disney storytelling and I know that our guests and members are going to experience
the best of the best in our hospitality delivered by our incredible cast members and
enjoying the outstanding amenities of this resort. I can't wait to see the memories that they're going
to make years and years ahead. Please join us today. Have fun and enjoy your island-inspired
adventure. Thank you. Thank you. Have fun. Come on. How about a hand for our friends out here?
Thank you, Bill. Thank you, Allison, so much. Thank you.
All right, guys. Look at the outside of this amazing new tower. It's so pretty. All right, and first up on our
agenda today is to check out the new splash pad. So let's go there right now and check it out.
All right, here is the brand new Moana splash pad and look at this. This is amazing.
And there's Moana. Wow, the kiddos are gonna love this. I love it. I want to go play on it.
So we have a zero entry pool here and then over here is the very first sun shelf on property at
Walt Disney World. So that's a nice little addition. You'll be able to just sit and enjoy
and not get all the way in the water, but still feel that nice cool pool water. Cool pool water.
There's also fun little fish all around and they do move with the wind, so it's fun. It
looks like they're actually swimming. Also have a nice hot tub over here. I found some more fish
over here. Some more views of this amazing pool. And then over here we have a nice little grassy
area with a hammock and some chairs that you can enjoy. This gorgeous view. You can even see the
castle from here. Oh my goodness, how cool is that? Next up is the fitness center and it is right here
across from the pool and the splash zone area. So we're gonna head into the fitness center now.
Here we go. Wow, a nice big fitness center. Let me go wide angle so you can see how big it is in here.
And also look at the view while you're working out. I mean you can't beat that view. The view
of the Polynesian. Got all the things that you would need to work out. All the equipment.
Wow, look at these pictures. Beautiful.
Over here is the bar, but look at this seating area here with the water. Okay, that's so nice.
So soothing. We're gonna head into the building now to check out the lobby area.
Cannot wait to see the inside. Let's go. Hi, aloha.
Look at this. Oh, it's beautiful. So pretty. All right guys, today we have Madeline with us and
she helped design the whole tower. What can you tell us about the design of it? It's very pretty,
very relaxed, chill vibe, and I love it. Thank you. That was our intent actually. Okay, great.
So for the design of the tower, we were first inspired by our Disney legacy. So when we began
the project and the research, we actually found that the original vision for the Disney's
Polynesian Resort was to include a tower. So we're so honored to complete Walt's vision.
I love that. We're also inspired by Polynesia and the Wayfinders. So you can see that reflected
here in the artwork and some of our architectural expressions. And we've challenged ourselves to
define what is the Disney version of tropical modernism. So I think you hit the nail right on
the head. Oh, I love that. It's very relaxing, easy-freezy, clean architectural lines,
warm and subtle textures, and color palette inspired by nature. Nice. Well, yeah, I think
you guys nailed it because it's amazing. Right as I walked in, I was like, ah, this is nice.
And the smell even goes with it. It's all part of the experience. I love that. That's awesome. Well,
thank you so much. You did an amazing job. We have Kama here, and he is the Hawaiian Culture Advisor.
And what can you tell us about this brand new resort? I can tell you something here at the
Island Tower that you will be amazed to see. If you kind of look at the four corners right here
in the lobby, let's start right here on this side. This is a sign of our earth. Right here
is a sign of this pillar of our water. Wow. And then right behind me is a sign of fire.
And then right next to that is a sign of wind. And for us, these different elements,
these different elements help us in wayfinding. Now, for those that have watched Moana, I think
that's the easiest way to relate to it. You know, the ocean is something that unites us
in the islands of the sea, in Polynesia, rather than something that divides us. So by using
different elements that you see here and all around the Island Tower, you will begin to realize
how we, how we transported ourselves from place to place, how we connected ourselves from people
to people. We were all essentially at one time, probably one people. And just as we travel around,
we settle on different islands, we bring certain things with us just in case we might not,
there may not be enough provisions there. And so that, that is, that partly tells the story
of this, this inner area of the, of the lobby here at the Island Tower. Once again,
talking about the different elements in nature that help us to wayfind. I love that. Thank you
so much. You're welcome. It's beautiful. We have some beautiful artwork here in the lobby that
you'll see all around in different places, some in the rooms, some just out in the lobby in the
open areas as well. So, so pretty. So here is the front where you would pull in with your car,
get out and come on in. It says, welcome home. This is how you would enter to this amazing
new tower. Just wow. This is amazing. Amazing. Amazing.
Love it so much. So next up, we're going to be making a necklace here in the lobby.
Check it out. We have our little necklace kits here. Look at this bag. How cute is that?
So we're going to learn how to make these. I can't wait.
All right. So we are making our necklaces here. I've already got two on,
and then all you have to do is put the kukui, kukui, did I say it right? Yeah. The kukui nut on here.
Take the string, put them together, and you put it in this little tool thing,
and then you pull it onto the ribbon. Pull it all the way down. And look at that.
I thought I had the wrong color. I didn't. Look at that. Okay. And then you tie a knot
like these and we just keep going. Super fun. So Jessie's here with me today
helping out and she's also making a necklace. It's turning out very nice.
Yeah. Mine's coming along as well. We're getting there. We just came to level two and look,
it's Maui's hook. How neat is that? So we have Brian here, the senior architect here for the
Island Tower. What can you tell us about this amazing, amazing tower? Oh, thank you. Yeah. So
what was really important about the design of Island Tower is that we had conservation
and sustainability at the core of the design from the very beginning. We knew that the stories we
wanted to tell at Island Tower were authentic Polynesian stories, Disney stories, and
sustainability stories. And so we were weaving them through the entire resort all together. So
you'll see here behind me, these preserved moss columns that we have hanging in the lobby. These
also have storytelling moments on them. If you go around over there, you'll see these beautiful
storytelling moments. So again, we're weaving together story with sustainability. We have
things like this beautiful rug down here in the lobby that's actually made from recycled plastic.
Oh wow. And it feels like silk, you would never know. And those actually continue on in the guest
rooms as well. Carpets and rugs in the guest rooms are made from the same material. Then we
have things like in Wailulu Bar and Grill, our restaurant over there on the other side of the
lobby. We have a lot of sustainable art in there, but most, I think the really spectacular ones are
these fish that are hanging from the ceiling in Wailulu. They're actually made from what we call
ghost nets. So those would be discarded fishing nets that would be floating ocean plastic or
ocean waste. We've pulled those out of the ocean and turned them into these incredible sculptures
that are hanging in Wailulu. That's amazing. Yeah. Oh, and also Wailulu actually has Walt
Disney World's first all electric kitchen. Oh wow. Yeah. Okay. Very nice. Thank you so much.
Thank you. We appreciate that. My pleasure. You guys did a spectacular job. Thank you so much.
Thank you. Thanks for being here. So look at this beautiful, beautiful mural here.
We have Tafiti right here.
And then right here in the corner is a hidden Mickey. How cool is that? I love all the small
little touches that they add in. We have David and he is the executive architect here on Island Tower
and what can you tell us about this amazing tower? Oh my gosh, where do you, where do I start?
Let me start at the beginning and the foundation of what you're standing in.
And as you can see here on these images on the wall, we did a lot of research before we even
started thinking about the massing of this building. And we quickly found out that there
was a really strong foundation of what Walt and the Imagineers thought back in the mid-60s
of this place. And in 1969, there was a development called the Vacation Kingdoms of the World.
And that's when the Imagineers developed all of these resorts around this lake that you see out
here. And each one had a very iconic statement to them. And they were based on all these exotic
locations around the world. Walt wanted to bring those to his guests. Remember, this was the golden
age of air travel and people were traveling all over the world now. And so we had the Asian and
the Polynesian, the Venetian and the Persian, and then the contemporary. And as you can see here,
in terms of being very iconic, one of the original ideas for the Polynesian was to do this
metaphorical mountain, if you will. And we always had the longhouses, what you see today,
but there was supposed to be a tower, a 12-story tower, and you could see how the Imagineers
brought the landscape up into the building. So it became that metaphorical backdrop to what they
had done earlier. And we really took interest in this and thought, oh, there's an interesting
idea here. And so that's what we really developed. As you can see with the massing here, we start
with 10 stories, we go down to eight, and we go down to six. And the six stories are up against
the existing resort and they define our new oasis courtyard and pool area. And then we go up to the
10 stories, which makes it an iconic presence at the scale of Seven Seas Lagoon. So we really took
a lot of inspiration from these original images. You can see here too, this was the original lobby
picture. And what we loved about this was there was a second level walkway that went around the
lobby and they had this really interesting lattice fence here. And as you can see across there, we
have the exact same condition. So in our modern day interpretation of that, we're literally doing
that same thing and allowing the lobby to be animated at multiple levels. I love that. That's
really neat. Yeah. And the other thing we really like too, we love this idea of bringing
landscape into the building because we have such a small site. It's really tiny compared to most of
our hotels. We decided, okay, let's go vertical with the landscape. Let's integrate it into the
building. I hope you've seen the garden terraces. Not yet. Okay. Well, you've got to see that. So
it's something totally unique we've never done before. And we've created these volumes of space
within the facade of the building. And at night they just become magical. And it's not only a
place to go see the fireworks, but in the morning you can go there and enjoy a cup of coffee, read
the paper, relax. That's perfect. So these are something new that we've never done. And we're
really proud of those as well. I love that. That's awesome. Thank you so much. Really appreciate it.
Absolutely. So we're heading down the hallway to check out one of the rooms. Let's go see if we
can find one to go tour. All right. We're heading into the duo studio here and to check it out.
Wow. Look at this. Nice and open room here. Look at the couch. The artwork is beautiful. So this
is the Murphy bed. You can tell that this comes down or you can use it as a couch as well. Nice
little kitchenette over here. Got a fridge, coffee, even a microwave. When we turn around,
of course, you've got your TV with the resort TV on there. It's a nice sink to get ready.
Vanity. And if we turn all the way around, the restroom is just right here. The shower.
Wow. This is beautiful. I love the tile. It does have the soaps in the bathroom installed already.
We got to go check out the outside as well.
Let's go up to the balcony now. Wow. Look at this. Oh my goodness. What a view.
You can see the bungalows over there. If we keep going, we might be able to see
from some of the rooms. I'm sure you can see the castle, but gorgeous view.
Here is the balcony. It has two chairs, a nice table. It's a good-sized balcony, actually.
Nice area to have your coffee in the morning.
All right. We're pulling the Murphy bed down. Oh my goodness. Look at that. Okay. That's gorgeous.
That is so pretty. Now we get to check out the deluxe studios. Let's go in.
This is beautiful. The bathroom is right here on the right.
A sink. Look at the mirror. Oh, let me go wide angle so you can see it a little better.
I love the mirror. Looks like this is probably the toilet room right here.
Oh, the shower. Oh my goodness. Look at the showerhead view.
Love that. Amazing. Turn back around here. Check out the rest of the room.
Wow. Look at the artwork in here too. The sofa and the bed. This is another Murphy bed.
Wow. This is a really big, nice-sized room. Then you've got your TV,
desk area, a nice little table with some seating area over here.
It's like a place for storage to keep things. That would be very nice. You always need that.
Lots of plugs too, which you always need. The kitchen has a dishwasher, fridge,
sink, microwave, and coffee, which is very important. Oh my goodness. Look at that.
Beautiful. We have Te Fiti. We have Moana in the corner. Maui and Heihei's even in there.
Pua's up in the cloud. Oh my goodness. That's adorable. You can see Pua. There you go.
Oh, I love that. There you go. Got two beds, room for four. Here is the look at the balcony,
the two chairs and the table, and a nice view over here to the Grand Floridian.
Heading into the two-bedroom villa now to check it out.
Oh my goodness. Wow. This is beautiful. So nice, open.
The artwork, the bed is already down, so we'll have to see what it looks like with the couch
as well. You've got the outside terrace here, and it does span over to the bedroom. It's a nice,
big terrace. Beautiful view as well. There's a TV area, and then this is another pull-out bed,
which is very nice and handy. Then you go this way, and you see the kitchen area
with full appliances, dishwasher, full stove, full fridge, microwave, coffee maker, all the things.
I just love this eating area, the table with the manta ray behind it.
The beautiful light fixtures too. Head in here, and here's one of the bathrooms.
It also has a shower. Wow, look at the tile. So pretty. Come out of the bathroom, you have a closet,
some storage area, ironing board, and let's see. Let's go this way first. Looks like we have
the main bedroom in here with the king-size bed. Wow, look at this room. Holy moly.
The artwork behind the bed is amazing. Look at the dolphins, the light fixtures.
This is gorgeous. And again, the terrace that we saw a minute ago
does connect all the way down to the living room area. Lots of storage as well. Got your TV,
and oh my word, look at this tub. Holy moly, that's beautiful. Artwork is amazing.
And we have the, looks like a shower. Yes, got a shower over here. One sink here with a mirror.
There's two sinks, so it's a double sink. And then of course the toilet room.
Some more pretty artwork in there. That's really neat, but I cannot get over this.
That's beautiful. We'll head into the next bedroom here, the second bedroom.
We've got the bathroom right here on the right with the shower, toilet room, closet.
Nice storage here. I love the storage areas for all your things. You always need places
to put your suitcases and whatnot. Two queen beds. It's just so nice and relaxing in here.
I just want to like curl up. So yeah, it is very much like a spa. TV, little desk as well.
There's nightstands on both sides, which is really nice. And plugs. Everybody has a place
to plug in your phone, your watch, all the things. And again, another terrace. And this one does not
connect down to the other side. All right, guys, we're going to check out the garden terrace.
Oh my goodness. Look at this. Wow. Okay. That is beautiful. Let me go wide angle. Look at the artwork.
Just a nice place to hang out. It gives me Polynesian, the main building in the lobby vibes.
I love that so much. Beautiful. All right, guys, we're going to go out to the Wave Break
Terrace and check it out. Oh my goodness.
This is amazing. Okay. I would be hanging out here the whole time, please.
Wow. Look at this view. Okay. This would be the best place to hang out and see the fireworks.
Wow. That's a nice view down to the pool as well.
Oh my goodness. Yep. This is where I'd be hanging out. I'm going to head into Waululu next to check
out some of the food offerings that they have. That was so fun getting to check out the rooms.
I hope you guys enjoyed checking those out. Offerings at Waululu Bar and Grill. Very nice.
Starting off here, we have our Spam Musubi, so teriyaki glazed spam sitting on top of sushi
style rice and then covered in nori seaweed. We serve it with some pickled sweet potatoes
and then a drizzle of sriracha honey on top. It's going to be crispy. It's going to be sweet,
salty, a little spicy. It hits all those. On top, we have our plant-based sweet potato hummus
served with crispy chickpeas, sesame seeds, and a light dusting of escalante. We serve that with
our breadfruit. Breadfruit being a very important ingredient in the Polynesian diet. We thought,
we realized that we really have a great breadfruit here as an option. We have our take on the classic
in this case, we have a braised beef short rib. We serve it with a crispy rice cake covered in a
velvety smooth and umami rich shiitake mushroom gravy. We finish it off with a classic egg that
always has. That sounds amazing and looks good too. Yes, thank you so much. Thank you.
Up for you is a non-alcoholic specialty beverage. It's a hibiscus tea and what we do is actually
steep dried hibiscus flowers and we add fresh orange juice in order to elevate the tartness
of the hibiscus and then we garnish it with an edible orchid. Then we also use the same tea base
to even feature in one of the signature cocktails, which is the hibiscus margarita. Oh, perfect.
Can't wait to try some of those. Here's some of the yummy food that we get to try that he was
talking about. I cannot wait to give it a try and try the drink as well. All right, let's give this
beautiful drink a try. It's very light, very refreshing. Yeah, you don't taste a, you know,
it's like a hint of hibiscus. Oh yeah, I could sip one of these and just hang out here
on a hot summer's day or even now in the winter. Perfect. All right, so let's try some of the food.
I think you're just supposed to dip, right? Go for it.
Oh my goodness. My hair is all over the place. This is really good.
This one's vegan. You're right. A little hint of spice, but not bad. Like I'm okay with it.
So I think this was the one that had more of the spice. So we're going to let Jesse try that one.
These were good. This is very good. The dip is amazing and it's nice that it's vegan. Now let's
try this. Holy moly, it's windy. Oh wow. That cuts very nicely. Oh my goodness. Very tender.
Very good. It has a very nice flavor and the sauce is good as well. It's very, very good. We got to
get a little bit of the egg in there. I would definitely get that again. I'd get the dip again
as well. This was like a rice dip, I think. Not very good too. They all complement each other
very nicely. All right, we'll let Jesse try that one. All right, Jesse, you want to go in for the
spicy first? What do you think? I'm going to give it a shot. All right, I'm going to give it a try.
It looks good. I might try it. We'll see. Spam in there and rice and then the seaweed around.
Like, yeah, a little bit of sriracha. What made it spicy?
It's very good. Yeah? Not spicy? If there is spice in it, it hasn't hit me yet. Okay,
then I might have to try it. Yeah, for sure. So I did try this one and oh my goodness,
it's really good. It's not spicy. It has a really nice flavor. I'm glad I tried it.
So this restaurant is open to anyone, not just DVC members or hotel guests. If you're at the
Magic Kingdom and want to pop over, you can ride the monorail over and check it out.
In order to park here, you'd have to have a dining reservation at one of the other restaurants,
but it'd be easy to just be at Magic Kingdom or park at the TTC and head over here and I
highly recommend it. Look at this amazing, amazing view while you're hanging out,
having your delicious food and drink.
We're in the penthouse suite. Check this out. Oh my goodness.
Look at that view.
We definitely, we definitely have recall. Oh my goodness.
Amazing.
Gorgeous. Just look at that view. Oh my goodness. Look at Magic Kingdom over there.
Here's the other bedroom on the other side.
Gorgeous. And that amazing bathtub again. Look at that. Gorgeous.
Look at the TV. That is so clever. TV on both sides. And then this would be a pull down right
here. But it still feels like very modern. Love how open it is in here. It's beautiful.
And then the kitchen, of course, is back here in the corner.
Look, I found a hidden Mickey.
Very fun.
All right, guys, that was so cool being able to see that
suite, the penthouse suite. And now we are back outside for some dessert and farewell.
Check out this amazing resort one more time as we're walking by.
What an incredible occasion this is. And to share this moment with all of you is just spectacular.
I know. We got to talk about so many beautiful things. Some of you know that I built this with
my bare hands. It took me so long. So thank you for walking around all of the hidden Mickeys.
I'm very proud of the TV wall I made in the penthouse suite. So thank you for all looking
at that and putting that in your content. But before you leave today here at Island Tower,
because it is a very special day. I mean, you're here. You're not always here. I'm here.
You're here. So many things are here. That's right. But not only that, a voyager
daring to claim the discovery of this new island oasis. So everyone right now with me, look to the
sky. Oh, wonderful. It's a stirring set off from our wonderful seafaring legend Moana. So thank you
for all undertaking today's joyous journey with us. A Wayfinder's heart is every single one of
you. So don't forget to voyage boldly and carefully forth to new horizons. Mahalo for joining us
today. What an honor it's been to share this beautiful moment with all of you. And if you
haven't already, make sure you pick up your Wayfinding treasure tote on your way out.
Stop. Yeah, we're giving you stuff. So may the wind and tide be your friend wherever destiny
takes you. And remember, you are always home where the sea meets the sky at Island Tower.
Bye, everybody. Smooth sailing and see you out there.
Checking out this amazing mural again. And we were told about this mini
mouse, hidden mini mouse. Instead of a hidden Mickey, it's a hidden Minnie.
How fun is that? You got to really look at all the things. Oh, I think I found another one
right here. Little minis. Okay, that's amazing. And little Mickey's all over.
The crab from Moana. We got a few gifts on the way out. So we have a nice,
looks like a Rice Krispie treat with some chocolate. That looks delicious.
Got this little bag here. We'll have to open it up and see what's in it. But it says
Island Tower at Disney's Polynesian. And then look at this. We got one of the artwork pieces.
Let me zoom out. See it a little better. That was better. Actually, there's a glare.
How beautiful. Oh my goodness. I love it so much. Thank you, Disney.
All right, we're going to open it up, see what's inside. The bags are already cool enough.
But let's see. We got an Island Tower Polynesian pen, exclusive pen for the tower.
That is so cool. I love pens. I'm excited. Let's see, we got,
it's like probably silverware in here so that you can bring it with you to the parks.
Yeah, look at that, like with a nice little container so I can go to food and wine.
I love that. That's super fun. And it says the Polynesian Island Tower on the front.
We got a little card. Wow, look at this. Nice little bag that you can use for whatever,
makeup, different things. Love that. That is awesome. Very nice. Thank you so much,
Disney, for having us out and for all the fun goodies. It's been an awesome day.
Can't even believe that we got to check this out.
All right, guys, well, that is it for our day here at Island Tower at the Polynesian Resort.
