Today we're going to teach Terry how to ride rollerblades.
Well, sort of. Terry is a cyclist and filmmaker who is exceptional at both.
I'm going to be following Terry, giving him some live feedback.
First at the beginner level in a controlled environment.
Then we'll progress to the advanced level on the bike path on the West Side Highway.
If he graduates from a bike path, maybe we'll go to the expert level and take this into the streets.
And hopefully he doesn't cause mayhem. I don't have menace insurance.
I just want to highlight that I grew up racing BMX bikes for a couple years and doing dirt jumps.
That led me to skateboarding, which I did for 13 years. So, like, there's a lot of similarities to this stuff.
If you're skating in the street and you suddenly have to come to a quick stop, how are you going to do that?
I think we're starting off too hot.
La dee da, this feels alright.
Sometimes turning a certain direction feels a little weird, but skating straight like this feels pretty good.
Oh, he's perusing.
Feels pretty good.
Alright, let's do something scary. Follow me.
I will follow you.
This might be bad.
Also, watch out for the sand.
I know, the sand's terrible.
I just want to point out that I am nervous.
He is nervous, folks.
Oh my god.
Very nice.
So, I think he did pretty well.
Alan, the beginner, controlled in the retirement area.
I think we're prepared to graduate now.
And we're going to go skate some trails.
West side highway, baby.
Oh my god.
I was not expecting you to try it.
Navigating around people pretty well.
Oh, he's pivoting.
I can't stop. I don't have a brake.
He doesn't have a brake.
There you do.
You got your wheels.
You don't have a traditional brake.
Nice little hop.
Oh, another hop.
Nice.
Hopping around, baby.
He's tall on skates, too.
Oh, I think I passed the test.
I think you passed the test.
I think I passed the test.
All you want to do on a hill is turn your skates perpendicular to the hill.
Yeah, that's actually not bad advice.
It's, you know, it's ******* science, you know?
Alright, we're on 42nd Street and I'm skating in the street.
We're in the big leagues now.
He's doing a pretty good job.
Oh my god, he's going against traffic.
Why are we going against traffic?
This is what we do.
It's not what we do.
Oh my god.
Oh my god. Oh my god.
He's being a menace now.
Uh oh, what do we do here?
Here we did a great job with the advanced level on trails.
Now we're going to try to go to expert and see how he handles everything on the street.
Are you ready?
I'm excited.
I'm so excited.
I'm nervous, I'm not going to lie. I'm ******* nervous.
We good? Go, go, go.
Alright, we're on 36th Street.
Nice. Nice job.
We're going to behave here at this light.
Only because this is a tunnel entrance.
This would be sick to jet set radio down right now.
Just full sprint and then exit out on the other side, but I ain't doing that ----.
No, sir.
Hopping over little manholes.
Okay, nice line here.
These valuable gaps, they're just clogged up.
Yeah, the gaps were clogged up, that's for sure.
Alright, no.
I've always wanted to do that.
Little downhills are nice, dude.
Yeah, it's nice.
I'm taking a ride on 31st.
Okay.
Trying to make my line wide.
Trying to make your line wide.
Hey ho, hey ho.
Oh, smooth pavement, eh?
This is nice right here.
This is the type of ---- I look for.
This is what I need right here.
Nice.
Run over here.
I'm tired.
How was that?
That was amazing. How did it feel for you?
I was scared, but once you lock in and you're flowing through traffic,
as long as you're not trying to come to complete stops and you're always looking for outs,
and you can slow down a little, you can scuff your speed, it's all good.
I'd say it's fun, for sure.
More energy.
It takes a little more energy, but I'm also not efficient on my strides yet.
I feel like if I had a couple months, I would dial it.
I'm confident that I would dial in at least a real smooth stride.
A real smooth stride.
Would you do that again on stakes?
Yeah, totally I would do it again.
The viewers of the Centering Skaters YouTube channel
wants to see me struggle to skate in the city.
If you want to see Terry Rollerblade again in the streets,
drop a comment to encourage him to do so,
and then I can force him later.
I forgot to tell you, he's been filming this whole video on a bicycle.
I've made him ride a bike.
So if you want to see Ari
trying to learn how to ride a bike in traffic,
come on and check out my channel.
Okay, bye.
