This is the final instalment of the Queensland Raceway Supercar Triple Trip this weekend.
And the lights flick, 600 horsepower to the road and again Feeney's got it wired,
he's plucked second gear and roars down into turn one and have a look at Brown trying to force the
issue on the inside. Woods stays in second position, tyres are cold as they throw one
and a half tonnes into turns one and two. Faces off to a reasonable start, trying to make his
way on the outside here is Reynolds and that's hard yards and somebody's well out there in the
weeds, it could be Payne who's out there farming at the moment. Yeah that was Payne, he was trying
to get back on coming out turn two but what a start and a big brake lock, big brake lock on
the way in there. He was able to rescue it and not make contact, it didn't see who it was but
what a start by Feeney. Almost no wheel spin and straight away with a one and a half or two car
length lap gain straight into turn one. Turn four, turn five, a lot of jostling going on down there
and I think that was Nick Perkatt that might have just been squeezed high and wide down there, not
100% sure. There's a lot of jostling going on at the back of the pack so if you try and run down
there three wide you'll be in stride. Oh he's gonna be onside, oh LeBrock very deep into that corner
and they are going to be three wide through turn six. We're watching Cam Waters and he's got Perkatt
on the outside of him. Now we are looking at Cam Hill and this is Mostad on the fly. What a great
battle going into turn one. Mostad squeezes down the inside, comes up into position number nine
and that was Will Davison into the back. Then the push wide for LeBrock was all based on having a
bit of assistance. Geez that's wild on the way out of there. Jackson Evans on the outside of Aaron Cameron.
James celebrating that 600th race yesterday and this is a place where he's had success.
He brought four victories to this location and he's muscling down the inside
and he's been able to displace Payne but he's got Cooper Murray on the inside, three wide.
It's game on on the exit of the final corner and now we've got rain. We've got rain out there on
this racetrack so if you want supercar action just add water. This is going to be wild because
it's raining heavily there at turn one and turn two. I don't think it's made its way down to turn
three down the other end, down the northern end of the racetrack. It's coming from the southeast
so you've got to just be really careful to understand how wet, how dry it is and what the
grip level is at either end of this place. I'll tell you where it's going to be wild now is as you
come from the north driving back towards the south. This turn four, turn five area it's going to be
out of control. There'll be cars off the road everywhere Neil. Imagine the challenge. Let's go
to Garth for a quick update. Yeah so the intensity very similar to what we saw yesterday in qualifying
when it caught everyone out. So not a lot of teams in pit lane yet with a wet tyre but the intensity
doesn't look like this front's going to hang around for long but it's getting to the point
where wets are going to be faster than slicks. One minute 14 we talked about pre-race Garth and we
looked at the century batteries tech facts but what an awkward set of circumstances. You probably
didn't even have the slick tyres fully up to tempered pressure. Did you see Di Pasquale's got
the thing on the wriggle as he changes gears down the front straight. So you're plugging gears with
600 horsepower on a Dunlop slick tyre and it wants to rotate in a straight line and what an introduction
for Zach Bates out there at the moment having to deal with this between Di Pasquale and Golding.
Welcome to the show. Welcome to the show all right. He's going to have a baptism of fire.
Garth there's that Queensland Raceway sign from the start. That start from Feeney was just amazing.
I was watching it really closely. It's right out the front of our comm box
and the jump there for Ryan Wood was quite good but the way that the first part of the start
interacted with the second phase of acceleration was no wheel spin. Got away superbly and that was
all important from the dirty side of the road on the inside and then all the normal chaos. Remember
we saw Payne out wide. That was David Reynolds and that that's actually Matt Payne there sliding out
on the exit of turn two. That was a very aggressive move down the inside by James
Courtney and then Cooper Murray. The three of them running into each other on the exit
and we saw some pretty vigorous stuff especially when this happened.
A little bit of precipitation. How's this slide here from Anton Di Pasquale?
I looked up and saw all that going on with fish tailing down the straight and they are
they're wild moments. When it starts to get that amount of attitude going then that's pretty spooky.
So he's losing a bit of ground in that. Yeah. It's like a video game. That was pretty spooky stuff.
Just done a 10.9 on that last lap. So things are starting to settle down again. The tracks
had a wash. It got very slow. Got back into the 20s and all of a sudden we found 10 seconds again.
So one of the things that happened on Friday when there was a little bit of drizzle around
and even yesterday it didn't dry in a hurry. And this one will be the undercut on Kostecki.
So this stop now is really that team looking to get onto the podium.
So did successfully yesterday with this car. Well that right front was just a little bit
tardy for David Reynolds. Is that tight? That didn't look to me like. No there was a bit of
second guessing with that. So Brown-Reynolds-Randall first stop completed. The car leading the queue of
those that have stopped is Will Brown as he drops in here behind James Courtney who's had to make
those two stops. One for Wess and then another for the dry tyres. James was betting on the weather
and it didn't work out. Austin's got quite close now to the back of Deepa Squally. And officially
that margin first to second now is seven seconds Feeney over Wood. He's just got a bit of time in
hand in every sector at the moment. He's got about a tenth and a half to two tenths and Kostecki
reacts. The Shelby Power Racing team reacting to Will Brown and they're bringing Carter 38 in now.
And it was a cracking stop by Will Brown's team 6.2. So that undercut benefit was not just the
strategic ability to to do the undercut. It's actually then the execution of the stop. Nicely
pulled up there by Brody. This will be a really interesting redrawing here to see whether
this has worked for them. A little bit of drama there. A little bit of a drama with the air spike
also off the back of that stop. Where is Will Brown? That is the question. Isn't it crazy? All
those tiny little things that you know when you're rehearsing in the shop midweek they're not factors.
Watch the rejoin here. But all of a sudden in the theatre of battle everything can change with that
extra pressure. You know Will's not necessarily going on as cleanly. Air spike's not going on or
off as easily. Having a look down the inside at turn two he thought long and hard about it. It'd
be a challenge to pass in that location but he's got the eyes on on the exit. He'll be looking for
corner exit speed. These blokes are mates but right now they're in different wall paint and
neither is going to give one millimetre. You'll be going the long way if you want to go around
the outside is the suggestion and the implication here from Kostecki whose tyres are not up to temp
or pressure. Now Brown squeezes down the inside and he'll choke off his oxygen on the other side
and finally clears him after a bit of vigour. Great exchange, great exchange.
Wood and Bates in the pit lane
and just looking out the front window Brown was able to hang on in that little battle.
Out of second position Ryan Wood and up the other end of the lane because the wild cards last in the
pit lane is Bates. Now it'd be curious to see where Bates drops in here relative to
Mostert. There goes Woody. He's in front of Courtney. James Golding's moved up into second
which is straight away up into third. Massive. Mostert gone. Mostert's brown. Mostert's almost
at turn two. Yeah so that's a huge gain. So they've stayed out longer with this car and that's
hurt those tyres where Chas has had the benefit of the fresher tyres but now this bloke's going
to have a shorter stint on this tyre set Rihanna. Actually unfortunately a slow stop for Zach Bates.
He overran the stop a little bit and then they were pretty slow on the left front so unfortunately
it was just a delayed stop. Okay by how much? Oh here we are we've got the replay. Seven seconds is the
number that cost him so big delay. It's always hard when you have the wild card stop like this
because you've got a temporary crew and the whole thing's different plus he's overrun the box by
miles so again that's just part of the experience isn't it? Yeah so then Nipri was
standing there seeing all that so that explains a little bit of that margin.
Do have a clear run into your pit bay. Do not come across too early. We've given you four tyres
and a turn. Boys I'm going to go down to the Hino hub in a minute and have a chat about just
the reason I believe I think we all do that Brock Feeney's probably going to go on to be one of our
greats. You watch him he's going to stop on the mark here when they drop the car just watch him
take off. All those little one percenters we talk on but let's focus for a minute as Chad Nailon
was saying the last application of this field turn. You see there see these guys again they do the
little things right. Connected beautifully there goes 25 litres gone. Now I can't tell you that
looks easy to drop a car down when you're full of adrenaline to hold the throttle at a percentage
and feed the clutch out like he just did. Very hard to do looks easy. Yeah good explanation
Marko and that was a nice stop. We'll give the time to the second but again when you watch them
do those sorts of stops they never look hurried they never look flustered. It always looks like
a slow mo. It's real perfection. Oh we've got a problem here for Cam Crick and this with it
could well be a safety car. So the dormer entry is well beached at the moment and that is all
good. He's down to turn six. Safety car boards and flags. Safety car boards and flags. James Taylor
race director upstairs in race control driving standards advisor alongside him is Craig Baird.
So big advantage Neil now for Kai Allen, Waters and Heimgartner to make this stop
under safety car conditions. Limiters engaged. Countdown from David Stewart the deputy race
director for the drivers to ultimately arrest their speed and engage those limiters
and that regulates the speed of the cars. Come down. We're just going to repeat the
same stop we did before mate. The grove. Feeney's back in. He was only just in pit lane wasn't he
but there's still three cars yet to take their first stop and I wonder if Kai Allen, Cam Waters
and Andre Heimgartner are going to try what Matt Payne tried in Tasmania which is pitting twice
in the safety car period. I'm going to try and get in from here one would think. And get home.
Yeah and get home. Back to the chat in the Hino hub and if you look at those that have only
run this long they've still got reasonable pace. Yeah. So I think that yeah you can safely get
home from here particularly if you're just a little bit cautious in the first phase of using
the tyre. So it's going to be pretty congested and busy down there at the moment. Well 33 laps
remaining and we saw 27 achieved by Brock Feeney in that race yesterday. Well I think the other
thing too Neil is you can actually warm the tyre up under the safety car can't you? Yeah. So you're
not going to use the tyre hard as soon as you go out and get a couple of free kick laps in the whole
process. And Brock came in on lap 29 in this race so that's near enough and this is the reason why
for Cam Crick who we're going to see in action in the Enduro Cup. We'll see him at the bend in our
next event. So I'm really interested to see whether or not what you were talking about a moment ago
Mark becomes a reality and then there's a bit of weather gets into this story as well because of
Cam Waters second stop.
Well they're going to do, so he's going to do, oh sorry first stop. So Kai Allen,
Waters and Heimgartner will have to do the two-stop regime in this segment. There's Heimgartner.
Yeah because the field's also still spread they haven't been able to release the limiters yet
for them to close back up so these bikes were the three that will process that.
So if you can actually make this stop and affect the stop, jump the car in front and remember
Brad Jones Racing have had unbelievable stops. So just in behind these two Mustangs
is Andre Heimgartner in the R&J batteries. Camaro is, they'll be trying real hard here.
There'll be massive urgency to get him out across. Can he get out? Can he get out? Yes he looks like
so he's jumped him. Nice job.
So they were in the mid-teens before the safety car intervention. Yeah they're in the lead.
They've come out in the lead. I'm just looking where Feeney is. They are dead set in the lead.
There's Feeney just in behind Heimgartner. That's what I'm getting at. So when you go from the
mid-teens to being in that position it just shows you how much gain is to be made.
So Canwater's in control. Great shot shows the cars streaming through there
and you cannot pass before you cross the control line on the front straight and it's on.
Supercar symphony in the background. Sounds fantastic. Cars roaring into turn one.
Putters over Allen over Heimgartner. What's the pace like with these cars?
They were down the order prior to the safety car. Now that they've got fresh air does that
work in their favor? Feeney already having a look down the inside and he's made a nice move
on Heimgartner. That's one scalp. Brings him up into third position. Woods trying to do the same.
He was running second prior to the safety car. He's now trying to find a way around Andre
Heimgartner who's just been having some challenges trying to find the sweet spot with that car for
the last well seven or eight months of the championship season. Newland cars are together
there through the left-hander at turn four. So you've got Richie Stanaway getting split there
as well with Golding and Payne also moving up a spot in that process.
Has Hyde through that last corner with the LeBron. How's this?
Bates down the inside. Oh a big contact there with Hill and Morton off to the side of the road.
Hip and shoulder on that one was pretty heavy duty. That was wild. So I reckon there might
have been something else go on there because Camerhill was so aggressive and now Percat
has given him a hit and he's escorted him off to Percat down the inside at turn two and Zach Bates
on debut ends up out in the weeds and this is Feeney now up the inside of Kai Allen. He knows
he's got to get this done quickly. He doesn't want to be parked in behind and have those tyres,
the front tyres especially get hot and there's heaps of team radio. It's lit up. Yeah there's
some vigour and some anger out there at the moment. Feeney on the attack. He's in third
position. He's cleared Andre Heimgartner. Kai Allen hustling that thing trying to keep him at
bay. He's on the slide on the exit of turn four. Does he have a dive down here? Braking strength
has been the real thing that's been the differentiator for car number 88 and he's
used it to great effect down there. Heimgartner goes out of this as well. Feeney makes some ground.
Clears the group and look at Brown in the background as well. Brown moves up on Wood.
That's key. Woody tries to dive back down the inside. Deep Esqually's car is smoking in the
background. I think there's been some contact there. The right rear on that car and Wood is
also on the radio sounding unhappy so there's more to the story. It's all going on after the safety
car restart. He's got good pace. He's the second fastest car out there on that lap so this is
really invigorated. Cam and a big spin. Turn around there for Will Brown. Do they all miss him?
Do they all miss him? Yes they do. Well done. That's not easy to negotiate in that cloud
so that's a bad deal there. He would have got hit there. Yeah. Is that Woody?
Yeah Ryan Woody. You don't do that by yourself in that spot especially a guy like Will Brown.
There's a bit more spite out there today. A bit more frustration. There's a bit more
hand-to-hand combat. Let's have a look on the replay and see if we can unpack what's gone down
here. So down into turn three. Bang. Heavy contact so Ryan's gonna get done for that for sure and
then Will picks up the throttle to try and not end up falling off the edge of the road and getting
into the gravel down there. Creates the smoke screen. Bang. Turn. Gone. Meantime Feeney now
sweating all over the back of Waters. The other car that's been quite speedy Mark. Kind of always
in the fastest four or five cars the last several laps has been Mostert. Yeah. And Heimgartner
interestingly actually just flicked on this lap. The previous lap he was the fourth fastest car
which kind of underscores that if you're at the sharper end then you can run on with them but to
qualify that's the challenge. Here's the big move down the inside. Does he get there for the lead?
Yes. And so Feeney's able to do it down the inside but Waters has done a cunning job of getting back
out the other side in front of him. Nice job. Well played. So it was such a deep break there from Brock
that he couldn't arrest the speed enough and he's allowed him to get back at it. Now they duel it out
again down at turn four. And the crisscross is on one more time. Does he stay in there? No. He thought
about it and cam through. Rotating. What a great little battle between them. So Feeney clears Waters
and 4.4 seconds is the margin. Feeney over Waters at the moment. Kyle hanging on in third. Andre
Heimgartner still got that fourth position at the moment but he is absolutely a target here
for Chas Mostert. But Mostert's got five seconds remember and he'll be aware of it
and he lets him slide by. So Heimgartner will know that. Tony Woodward would have advised him on the
radio but now the aim of the game here for Heimgartner is to try and keep Payne at bay.
And he's making a lunge down the outside. Switches to the inside for turn six. Tries to nudge the
Mustang up the inside. Grind, grind, grind. Sparks fly down there and Payne will pop out the other
side as the queue tries to find a way through. Kostecki is next in that process and Brodie comes
down the inside as well and he's got the thing sideways a turn wide across the kerb and Tom's
tucked in behind Heimgartner now. This is wild stuff. Great racing. Absolutely superb. Really
tough racing there. Payne down the inside with a bit of bump and grind on Heimgartner
and then Brodie was able to capitalise. It's not over yet because Ryan Ward's having a look
at the back of Anton Di Pasquale. Can he get it stopped? He does. Yes and he gets the car across
the front of Anton's Camaro. Move mate. What an afternoon of action. Temporarily in front of Di
Pasquale. I say that because it's no man's land out there on the outside of turn four and he has
to drop back into position just ahead of his teammate Richie Stanaway. Yeah he's putting
something really big together at the moment. It's not an easy thing in the field of this class to be
able to put margins like we've seen in qualifying or when yesterday he decided to grab the fastest
lap and when he did it it was just a single lap that was a standout on its own and it was a margin
of 0.4 over everybody else. He's a deep student of the sport. He thinks about every millimetre
of the racetrack and we're seeing one of the world's best operators here. A young fellow who's
been able to put together something pretty cool. 22 years of age as we wind down the back end of
the Repco sprint cup and it's the first marker in our championship season where the construction
of our championship is wildly different to any other time that we've had in the history of the
This is a nice job down to the final corner and what an exercise for him. A winner in the first
race yesterday. Cranky with a jump start in the second race but came home in position number two.
Brock Feeney does the job and recovers to take victory in Queensland Raceway.
Yes, great reaction. What Martin Short just said to him. Great job, unreal guys. That's fantastic.
And let's check out where they wash out at the end of race 25. How about those pictures? Brock
Feeney celebrating that Repco sprint cup in style. Getting the treble here again. Cam
Waters and Kai Allen, unlikely podium getters. Matt Payne, Brodica, Stecchi, Chas Mosted inside
the 10. Richie Stanaway and James Golding. That's a really big result for Premier Racing in terms of
the team's championship. And how about some stories further back in the pack like Will Brown
turnaround. Will Davison got a penalty. Just a couple of the big names to have picked up penalties
in this one including Ryan Wood, Cameron Hill, Nick Perkatt all penalised for incidents. Zach
Bates, Mandy fought bravely but it's a tough game. The supercars championship and he found
himself outside the top 20.
