The third and final installment of this 3 Suzuki DRZ400S dual sport adventure ride concludes with quite possibly the most epic destination I've ever reached on a dual sport motorcycle. After heading out for some dual sport exploring near Mt. Washington, McLovin Moto and I happened across a technical, sandy road leading to the top of Cache Mountain. The DRZ400 off road ride up to the summit was technical, with lots of big rocks and amazing views along the way. When we reached the top, we were astounded by the views of all the peaks in the Cascade Mountains. Some so close it was like you could reach out and touch them! It's truly amazing where a dual sport motorcycle like the Suzuki DRZ400S can take you, and this video is proof! Thank you for coming along on this amazing DRZ off road riding adventure!
Hello everyone and welcome back to the Dorkside.
Hope you've enjoyed the first two parts of this 3DRZ adventure.
Part 3 is the best part yet.
McLovin and I, spoiler alert, ride our DRZs to the top of a mountain.
So enjoy that.
Also, I'm the Dork in the Road and I want to be your internet riding buddy.
So please consider subscribing and don't forget to turn on those notifications.
Check out parts 1 and 2 of the series. I'll put links in the description for you.
But for now, please enjoy part 3.
I guess my beard is probably going to stay pretty clean because I'm wearing this.
That's actually nice.
I think that trail's right here.
Are we synced up? Doesn't sound like it.
Are you, uh...
Is mine on?
No, I know. Oh, okay. Yeah, it was you.
It was you. You're the one.
You're the bad. You touched the butt.
Trail 10.
Yeah, this is how the side-by-sides get over there because I can't go down the road.
Okay, why am I in second gear right now?
Why am I driving like a baby? That's a problem.
Oh, here's some rocks.
They're on the right.
More so on the right, I thought.
Now my mask is coming off my nose already.
Who's the dumbass that put it on there badly?
Oh man, there's a lot of sandy turnies.
This sucks.
Why am I taking this so slow?
That's the bad thing to do.
Yeah, this is legit.
Where the hell does this go?
It's probably really fun on a side-by-side.
Dude, it doesn't look bad on the map.
It looks super two-dimensional. I don't know.
I thought for sure it would just be...
100% flat.
Okay, here's the road.
And this will just take us down to the other road we were on.
I wonder where the hell it goes if you go the other way.
You can't go too far.
We're back to Ray Benson. I bet you that's where this goes.
This is how you come in from Benson to get over to the trails.
That's my guess.
I got so much air.
It's 7 feet.
Okay, this could be good.
Oh, look at this mountain.
Not bad.
Well, my mask popped up, so I'm just going to pull it down until we stop for real.
Well, again, don't like the forest fire, but it sure is nice to be able to see the mountain.
And there's a little tiny lake.
And I can't believe there's nobody camped in any of these spots.
Hold on. Let me just look. Let's just look.
We have the map. We have the tools.
I've got some battery.
So, I don't know.
Subtle. Yeah, Steve's right. Subtle is like right over there.
Interesting.
I mean, that's probably 30 miles.
So, if you want to hit leakage, then they're going to be off in this on the left area.
But, I don't know. I just want to see what's up here.
I might leave this up.
It's going to open. It'll die on me.
Maybe it'll tell me what it was.
Well, I just mean the screen will shut off.
Because it would be nice to be able to see what we're close to.
I really need to get that USB charger on this bike.
It's not hard.
I'm just wary because the one on the CRF was giving me trouble.
That's a safety thing.
Holy ----. Okay.
That's some technical.
There's a squirrel catcher.
Yeah, I don't even know. My truck has limited clearance.
I don't know. I mean, I could get it back here, but I don't know if I want to.
Nope.
I mean, there's a stock something under there.
Yeah, these are more trails than roads.
Oh, ----.
Yeah, okay.
I don't think I would drive through this on my truck.
Yeah, that's my favorite.
The views are good and the riding is semi-fun.
Semi-challenging.
Not sitting the whole time, butting along.
I could if I wanted to.
Man, I'd like to get up on one of these ridges.
Oh, target fixated on that one.
Yeah, I did.
I was like, I should not hit that. Oh, cool. I hit it.
This forest is pretty cool, too.
All the dead trees with the new growth underneath. Kind of unique.
There's a big rock right in the middle.
Don't air off it.
Actually, you totally could. It looks like it's not that bad.
Like that ridge?
Man, it would be cool to get up on that ridge.
But I don't want to hike up there, so.
Unless there's a road that gets up there.
Oh, yeah. This gets a little interesting.
Definitely been washed out, so.
It gets cold, but we've got the gear for it.
Yep.
At least I will when I wear my pants.
Well, what's that say?
Maybe that doesn't say lookout point or anything?
There's clearly a road that goes up to the top of Little Cache Mountain right over here.
Because it's got one of those loopies at the top?
Well, I see that road.
If we keep making left turns,
looks like it, that would be worth it.
Oh, dude, I don't know.
There's not enough room to get around them.
Oh, that's a problem.
Holy ----.
Holy ----, it is.
Wow, dude.
I can't get around them unless there's a spot.
Hopefully they see us and turn around.
Worth it already.
We're going up there.
Steve's going to be pissed.
You're going to just have to back down the hill.
Well, this dust sucks, folks.
They have to know we're here, right?
Oh, look at those rocks.
How are you going to get through that?
That's a RAV4, everyone.
Thank you.
Oh, my God.
We're here.
Dude, they got me, too.
How are they going to get up that?
There's a lot of flex required there.
Yeah, I'm not...
I drive a Tundra.
I don't want to bring it up here.
Oh, my goodness.
You can probably see the legs.
This, this is it.
Why do you want to do a sport?
Look, over there.
That's why.
Three sisters.
I don't want to stop for pictures because I don't want...
Look at Mount Washington.
God, it's like...
I'm petting it.
Like, that's literally the mountain.
Like, all that is Mount Washington.
Okay, the top's going to be super badass.
Or it's going to be ---- because we won't be able to see anything.
Well, that's okay.
It's worth it.
Why did I bring my hydration pack if it's empty?
Why did I not take it off?
That's stupid.
I also brought my appendix and I don't need it, so...
That hill right there in front of us, I believe, is where we're headed.
Should loop.
Yeah, I know.
I'm good.
You're going to get some scratches too.
This man's Anita's no joke.
Ask me how I know.
Look at the side of my truck.
Yeah, you need a dual sport.
Like, you're not getting up here on a Harley or whatever.
Cache Mountain.
I'm a little worried about it.
Maybe we'll find another way around.
Oh, okay.
I almost psyched myself out.
That was stupid.
I was like, I should have gone left.
It was way too late.
That's alright.
I thought there was a road.
This is a snowmobile trail.
Oh, man's Anita.
Man, I bet this is fun in the snow.
Yeah, just beautiful, pristine as far as the eye can see.
Covered in white.
Well, I think the trail's pretty obvious.
Okay, let me just make sure.
This looks like it.
This has got to be it, but I don't want to go the wrong way out of our way.
Yeah, this goes up to the top.
That looks like it loops back around to the road, actually.
Yeah, if we can get through.
Doesn't look too bad.
Need a dual sport.
I hope they're not coming up here on the ramp.
Yeah, here's some technical s*** for you.
Dude.
Holy s***!
Look to your right.
I get too focused.
The writing's too good.
I get focused on it.
This was such a good, such a good idea.
Is there a city?
Probably, oh, way over there.
That could be...
Detroit?
Subtle?
F***ing ridiculous.
We're on top of the world.
You're going to fly your drone, right?
Holy s*** biscuits.
I'm not a trail guy.
That's why I like it up here, because the scenery and the riding is fun.
And I haven't hit anything yet that I was like, I don't know if we should go over that.
It's pretty good stuff so far.
A few push my skills areas, but nothing crazy.
Oh, that could be Black Butte you saw.
Black Butte Resort, if it's right at the base of the mountain, it would be.
Holy s***!
Coming down is going to be so gorgeous too.
We are so high.
Wow.
Yeah, that's Black Butte.
That's Black Butte Ranch.
That's what you're seeing.
Over there?
You can see the golf course.
Right in front of you is Black Butte Ranch.
Yeah.
Way the hell out there is Sisters.
Sisters would be seven miles from Black Butte.
So I bet you that's what we can see.
Holy s***!
We're not even to the top.
And look at Jefferson.
We're like the same height as Three Finger Jack right now.
Okay, I'm just going to take it a little easier.
Oh my goodness.
Okay, I need to ride this though.
Okay, the bushes make me feel better.
I'm going to get in the rut now.
Okay, I don't know if I want to go up that.
Well, there's a big lake.
One of those is big.
I don't like how loose this is.
It's not that bad, I don't think.
Oh, it's pretty deep.
Do they come dump this up here?
Yeah.
Well, that road off to the left was just a shortcut.
So I don't feel like such a s***.
We're not taking it.
There used to be a lookout up here.
There's this f***ing campsite, dude.
Un...
I'm going to say it.
Un-f***ing-believable.
Son of a b***h, I wish I had a beer.
And a cigar.
Dude.
And, guess what?
This is always going to be here.
You can come back whenever the f*** you want.
Okay, I'm going to stop gushing and just give you a decent look.
Wow.
I mean, just...
That picture is not going to do it justice.
There's no...
I'll take a bunch, but...
Forget it.
So this is Cache Mountain.
Elevation 5571 Cache.
Meaning there's a box of something valuable buried here.
Yeah, you ain't kidding.
Steve!
Steve.
Where are you, Steve?
Bro.
Why did you go all the way over there?
Steve.
Why were we looking for lakes when this was out here?
Yeah.
If that rat makes it up here, I'm going to shake both those people's hands.
And then we'll follow the trail of their oil back down.
5500 feet.
I think Black Butte is about 6000.
Yeah, all those little lakes.
That, actually, looking at the shape, that looks like meadow right there.
Weird named ones, like Hand and Knuckle and...
How about Little Bear?
That's where we came from?
That's how far we've come today?
Maybe?
I mean, it looks big, so...
It's not just a clever name.
What are you doing?
Okay, this is worth getting home after dinner time.
I need a picture of this.
It's not even...
I don't even know what...
I don't even know what direction to point it in, because everything's amazing.
Maybe I should stitch together a panorama.
No sh...
Why don't they pay us to market these things?
Just pay me to go ride around places and take pictures.
And the view coming down is going to be amazing.
I wish I had some water.
Do the between the bikes pose.
I'll get a...
I'll get a victory shot of you.
Ooh, the lake is kind of in the background, if I can get it.
Okay, I believe you.
Ooh, mountain in the back is cool.
Can you see it?
Awesome.
Also, icon.
Enjoy your advertising.
Alright, friends.
This is the coolest view.
So, let me just point out some of the landmarks.
I guess I need to say that when I point on the GoPro in Superview,
it's going to look like I'm not pointing directly at them.
That is Mount Jefferson.
And then to your right, Black Butte.
That is the Three Sisters.
Broken Top.
This is Mount Washington.
The one that's like right there.
I can touch it.
And then out there, Hayrick Butte, Hog Rock.
Hoodoo is on the other side.
Oh, and down here is Suttle Lake.
That's Blue Lake.
Highway 20.
None of this is coming through on the camera.
You're just going to have to trust me.
We're a mile high right now.
We're higher than a mile.
5,500 feet.
And we're on the ridge.
So, like, this way is...
Well, I mean, we're in the Cascades, but like west.
But we're on, like, the high point on one of the ridges.
This is Cache Mountain.
You can see Black Butte Ranch is right there.
You can see all the way to Sisters.
McLevin thinks he can see Bend, which is possible.
It gets pretty hazy out there.
And then that ridge line is...
Redmond is out there somewhere.
Unbelievable.
But we're going to get some badass views on the way back down.
We're going to take it easy.
Take our time.
We're going to probably find the wreckage of a RAV4.
Because I don't know what the hell...
I don't know where they were going, but...
They weren't very far out.
Maybe they wised up and turned around.
I'm going to let you lead down.
Are you?
Yeah.
I'll get some footage of you.
I know.
What do you think?
I want you to lead down.
Yeah, I appreciate your sacrifice.
Oh, I took out a policy on you.
You're a character on my channel now, so...
It's not less cool up here or around this side.
Yeah, screw the rest of the video.
I'm going to trash it.
Like, Steve who?
I don't even know.
He missed out on the coolest part.
That's Cache Lake right there.
It's all ugly and...
Yeah.
Well, it's C-A-C-H-E, like...
I stashed a bunch of supplies.
Yeah.
My brakes are squeaky.
It seems pretty dumb to hike all the way to the top of a 5,000 foot mountain to hide...
I mean, I guess if you're trying to hide it, but...
It's not convenient supplies.
Do you know the big mountain between Three Finger Jack and Mount Washington?
That one.
Start climbing.
Yeah, we're going to hit our technical friends.
Yeah.
It's going to be a giant scrape and a big puddle of oil.
The bushes are encroaching on my line that I'd like to take.
Don't go that far if you fall off.
Man, you're going to have to give Steve a raft of s***.
Oh, yeah, cool.
So, after you left, we found a mountain and climbed to the top of it.
That one, in doubt, slide it out.
The sand slowed me down enough. I didn't need a break.
It's good, except when it's super unexpected.
I mean, I'm kind of in favor of just butting our way back.
It's a decent little ride between here and there.
I think we'll be reasonably tired when we get there.
Plus, that mountain is just going to be disappointing compared to this one.
I think it's Little B***h Mountain. That's what it's called.
Yeah, this is the first spot we were like, holy s***.
We didn't even know what we were in for.
Yeah.
I like to get done while I'm just noticing I'm tired.
Not when I'm like, oh, I'm going to half-ass it.
Oh, I fell. Cool.
No, they didn't come this way.
I mean, there was about five things before we even got onto this road
that I would have been like, eh, look good on the map, but nah.
How about this? Nah.
How about nah?
Maybe this.
Maybe they went up Little B***h Mountain.
Had to get a little technical.
A little dusty, so I'm going to let you get a little bit farther ahead.
And the wind is blowing towards me, so it's actually making it worse.
This bike is more capable than I'll ever be as a rider.
Just let it do its thing. Trust it.
Oh, this one's real bad.
They're smart, they did.
All right, everyone, we are coming around the backside of the mountain,
almost back down on the flat.
You can't see anything with a dust cloud.
You just have to trust me that McLovin is actually in front of me,
causing said dust cloud.
What a day.
Badass trail riding.
We got a bunch of cool exploring, hidden lakes,
and then to get to the top of that Cache Mountain
and see the view on all the sides.
Unbelievable.
Probably, like McLovin's saying,
it's probably the best view I've ever seen out in my time exploring the woods.
And the best part is,
you need to do a motorcycle side-by-side or a quad to get up there.
The road is, I wouldn't take my truck up it.
So, it's for us, you know?
And it just makes you wonder what else is out here to find,
so you got to keep exploring.
So, thanks for coming along.
Thanks to McLovin and to Steve, who missed out the best part.
I want to thank my patrons for all their support.
Thank you very much, patrons.
And please, if you want to be a dorky supporter like them,
think about hitting that link and becoming a patron yourself.
I hope you enjoyed part three of this massive multi-DRZ extravaganza.
Cache Mountain, without a doubt,
one of the best views I've ever seen in my entire time riding motorcycles
and spending time in the woods.
Highly recommended if you've got a vehicle that can get you up there.
So, thank you to McLovin and to Steve for riding with me.
Make sure you check out McLovin's version of these videos
if you haven't yet.
I'll put a link in the description for you.
