Erling Haaland bagged a brace while Tijjani Reijnders and Rayan Cherki scored on their Premier League debuts as City mastered the men from Molineux.
Haaland opened the scoring after finding a pinpoint cross from Rico Lewis before Reijnders, a summer signing from AC Milan, fired us two-up shortly after.
After the break, Haaland added his second and our third when a quite brilliant move, involving Reijnders, ended with the No.9 blasting past the helpless Jose Sa.
With the game marching towards full-time, Cherki, another new recruit, put the cherry on the icing on top of the cake with a clinical finish to seal three thoroughly-deserved points.
So, 83 days after a 2-0 win at Fulham cemented their place in the Champions League,
City are back in Premier League action. Another new season, but this one seems so very different.
As for the first time since 2020, the Blues are not the defending champions.
Well, ahead of kick-off today, there is going to be a minute's silence in memory, of course,
of the tragic loss of Diogo Jota, who, as well as being a Liverpool player, was also, of course,
a Wolves attacker too. Now, Dokku down the left wing, gets it inside towards Bernardo Silva.
Bernardo Silva's crosses, just above Holland! He's stretched out, got to it, but not in a way
that he could steer it in to what would have been an unguarded goal. Just a little bit too
much height on the cross, or City would be 1-0 up. Wolves are in possession with Andre, good tackle,
but Bernardo Silva can't keep the ball, and then there's an ankle tap on the back of Doherty,
and a free kick to Wolves down the right side they go. Crossing position as well, it's low and warm,
really, really good block by John Stones, right in front of Stran Larsen. It was a lovely ball in,
second ball, it's dangerous in that score! Manezzi! Oh, it's an offside, it's an offside.
Well, Manezzi put the header in the net, VAR will check it, but the first tackle from Stones was
brilliant, the second one, nobody near Manezzi, heads it into the net. Offside, says the assistant,
has Manezzi gone too soon? He has, that's a brilliant decision by the assistant, Michael.
Wolves benches up celebrating, and he got the decision quite quickly. He did indeed.
Manezzi coming forward, stopped by Stones, on it goes by Diaz, and City have lost the ball,
and Wolves are coming forward now, and João Gomes leads the charge, and on it goes to Belgun
on the edge of the area, right across the face of the goal, great save by Trafford,
and the flag then went up, no it didn't, yes it did, it did go up. Well, Manezzi was in an
offside position again, but a good save by James Trafford despite. 34th minute, this is a very,
very even game, and Wolves have probably had the best moments in it in an attacking sense,
and they've had a goal ruled out rightly for offside. Now Rijnders can come forward,
Rijnders in central midfield, keeps on coming, oh that's great feet from him, on it goes,
scoop ball in towards Lewis, Lewis into the area, and Haaland scores, brilliant from Rijnders,
on it went to Lewis, across the face of the goal, and Erling Haaland, it's a cliche isn't it,
scores on the opening day once again, Wolves nil, City one, Erling Haaland.
It's a lovely comfortable ball right across, City get the breakthrough, the press is strong,
quick, they're on the front foot as Haaland goes over to those City fans celebrating,
he's off the mark, and City take the lead, rightly so. And now Bob has it, and Bob wins it back on
halfway, and City have got men right and left, if the pass is good City will be in here, and Rijnders
hits it into the back of the net, brilliant counter-attack from City, and the man who's
had an eye for goal in Sedia, has got an eye for goal in England, and Rijnders makes it two for the
Blues in the space of three minutes, it's Wolves nil, City two, brilliant from Oscar Bob, equally
so from Rijnders. Oh now the ball's in the City box, and it's put wide by Strang-Larsen, the ball
was on the right side, Hoover played it into the area, and Strang-Larsen ran onto it, put a side
foot to it, that put it wide of the post, that wasn't a bad start to the second half for Wolves.
Good ball, right to Rijnders, Rijnders has got a way here, and he can drive City forward, on it
goes to Bob in the right wing position, Wolves are stretched here, Rijnders in the area, good ball,
Haaland three nil, wonderful from Rijnders, brilliant from Haaland, he races over to the City
fans on the far side, and you have to say, Rijnders has been involved in all three goals,
Haaland has his second, City lead three nil, that was majestic. It's a brilliant finish,
Haaland still work to do, as he steps forward onto that lovely left foot, he passes it but he's got
the power, he's got the accuracy, corner of the box just approaching, just opens that left foot
right across Jose Sarr, Rijnders involved, he's the one making those runs, and even when he's in
advanced positions, he keeps going under pressure, he finds the pass, and out for a throw, City throw
I hasten to add, on the far side in front of the City fans, so City have made changes in the second
half, as the ball comes into the box, Strand-Larsen hits a shot, good save by Trafford, probably the
most he's been stretched in the game, and he was equal to the shot from Strand-Larsen, and it goes
out for a throw on the far side, inside to Rijnders, on to Scherke, little flick, beautiful, round the
corner to Rijnders, Rijnders on to Bob, Bob in to Rijnders, brilliant football from City, across the
goal it goes, but Marmouche is forced away, Marmouche picks it up in the left wing position, plays it
back inside to Aignan, on it goes to Niko, oh lovely again from Scherke, he's on to the ball, Scherke
he hits it into the net, Ryan Scherke, you are gonna be one of those players that we will always
talk about, he's got the number 10 of Georgi Kinkladze, he has that kind of swagger, and with that
kind of finishing, we might just have a legend on our hands, his first Premier League appearance, his
first Premier League goal, Ryan Scherke, you are gonna be a superstar, City striding forward through
Ryan Scherke, he's got Agbidou in front of him, little back heel in towards O'Reilly, and across
comes Totti Gomez, and City are just waiting like wolves for the final whistle, and there it is,
so Jared Gillett brings to an end a quite wonderful Manchester City performance, Erling
Haaland scoring for the fourth game, the fourth season in a row on the opening day of the season,
giving City the lead, Reinders then made it two, and then early in the second half Haaland made it
three, Scherke made it four, the Blues are off and running in style here at Molyneux, the final score
Wolves nil, City four
