A Visit to the Kenaitze Indian Tribe
At the Cook Inlet in Alaska, I joined Kenaitze Tribal Council Vice Chair Jakob Kooly to witness the tribe’s deep commitment to traditional, subsistence foods — from fishing the Kenai River’s historic salmon run to growing fresh produce in community gardens and greenhouses. Ultra-processed foods are driving our nation’s chronic disease crisis, and their impact hits American Indian and Alaska Native communities especially hard. The Kenaitze Indian Tribe’s leadership in food sovereignty shows the path forward to Make America Healthy Again.
