Holy schmackaroni, Nico.
Breda, man.
This is where you sneak in.
Holy ******* ----, it's deep.
Is it?
Oh, freaking Maloney tunes.
Let me have a look.
Are you sure?
I'm not sure.
Three, two, one.
Nico dropping.
Backcountry ski mode.
Hako's out for his first ski tour of the year.
So it's going to be interesting.
Like my picture of Austria, this is it.
Ski.
The greatest ski tour of all time.
The movie is basically the story of when my childhood friend tried to do just that.
And I turned my life on its head to be able to tell the story.
And a huge part of that was me trying to use my friend's regimented way of life.
He trained in here.
Basically living like a snow warrior monk
to see if that could have a positive impact on my own skiing.
It's like equally tiring every time.
But you know, to get good at skiing,
you can't just carry water up mountains all day.
You also have to actually ski a lot.
And that was the goal here in Austria.
We are in the Alps.
We have lifts.
We have a sandy 22-year-old somewhere.
He's so fast, he's ahead of us.
We take the lift up and we put on skis.
Or what's the plan?
We take the lift, then we ski a little bit.
And then we're right on the lines.
What?
It's a training ground.
You're going on the tour.
Yeah.
We're going to go up to Lingen.
There's the spirit competition.
He's going to win.
I've seen your flips.
I've seen you ski.
Virgil is a French skier from Chamonix.
One of the young guns really sending it hard
on the qualifier tour,
like trying to get into the Fjord World Tour.
So I thought like bringing him in
to have some inspiration from a younger guy
going harder would be good.
That's what he does.
He sends it really, really hard.
Holy f***ing tractor.
Oh, sweet.
All right, Trister.
It's time to get spiny.
Let's go.
Yes.
Oh, nice.
Yes, brother.
Three, two, one, drop.
Boys, boys, boys.
What a fun man.
Morning.
Morning routine.
We found some really good kind of warm-up runs.
For our first lap, we go up for another lap.
More serious lines, some bigger lines.
Take off.
Can you go a bit more to the right?
And it's looking pretty amazing,
except you have all these glide cracks
pretty much below every line.
So you have all this amazing terrain,
but most of it just ends in this like little death gulf.
Yeah, go, Trister.
Trister, do you copy?
Trister, Trister.
This is nice.
Very nice.
It looks a bit like a rescue mission.
They put two people in the slope
and it looks like there's some skin tracks on the backside.
Okay, it's nice with the access here in the Alps,
but there's also just like now a heli has landed here,
like a rescue heli,
and we're not really sure what's going on.
And it's just kind of parked
and that left feeling uncomfortable to fly.
And I'm here above this extremely tasty spine
that I would really like to ride.
So now we wait.
Rescue people, you are doing an amazing job
and we love you.
Now we can ski.
We hope you won't be back for us.
Why do I want to ski better?
Do I want to ski better?
I mean, do I want to?
Yes.
Okay, Nico in five.
I do a line, I do an air or something
where I'm not entirely sure that I'll be able to do it.
But then you do it, right?
And then you know you're able to do it.
So then for the next time
you want to have that same feeling,
you got to do something that's a little bit harder.
Wow, look at this slope.
I know, it's like kind of funky, but sick.
Dude, that's three.
Good work.
It's not that I necessarily have this idea of progression
or this philosophy that I want to like be better
or new year, new me sort of thing.
It's more like to get the feeling,
that really, really good feeling
of doing something that's on your limit.
You have to push that limit.
Holy schmackaroni, Nico.
Bread, man.
Holy ******* ----, it's deep.
Is it?
Oh, freaking.
Let me have a look.
Are you sure?
I'm not sure.
Bread, man.
This stuff is gonna be riding at a thousand kilometers an hour, dude.
You feel good about your line?
Yeah.
But I'm feeling a little like...
Oh, you should.
Let's go, Krister.
I'm pretty scared.
Do you feel you're confident about where you're gonna go though?
Yeah.
It's good to have a bit of nerves.
Yeah.
Oh, sick.
How is it looking, Krister?
It went a lot of slough down.
Crusty, like on the ridge.
Maybe a bit hard pack in the landing.
Okay, Nico in five, four, three, two, one.
Nico dropping.
Yeah, Nico.
Wow, dude.
Ah, that was so sick.
Hey, good runs, guys.
You did a 720 here, no?
No, I never landed one on the line.
So it could be the first.
You know, I really want to do a seven off a natural feature.
I used to do sevens all the time when I was a teenager.
But then I really didn't ride much park for a lot of years.
And when you are touring, it's really hard to find features, I guess.
I'm like attracted to steep technical terrain where the skiing in itself is really hard.
And then trying to push, you know, like,
yeah, doing tricks in that kind of terrain makes it a lot harder.
Come on, Nico.
All right, you got it.
Three, two, one.
Nico dropping.
Not three.
Boom.
Yeah, brother.
Yeah, buddy.
I just heard, nope.
Yeah, there was just no speed.
But that was the smoothest 360 I've seen in a while, dude.
Yeah, it's so nice.
A day like today, you can break every bone in your body.
And here we are.
Completely fine.
So Virgil, he qualified for the tour, of course.
You can actually watch him this season.
But he had to leave Austria before I had landed any sevens.
And it's a little hard to sleep right when you haven't landed a seven.
So I had to bring in some more freestyle backup.
I'm excited.
This is my first tour for the season.
No way.
Damn.
Backcountry ski mode.
Hakel's out for his first ski tour of the year.
We're going to inspire us with all the moves.
Alex is an amazing skier.
He's been doing mostly like urbans, I'd say.
As a pro skier, he's not even putting his boots in walk mode when he hikes.
He's downhill oriented, which is refreshing when you're trying to ski well on the downhill.
Yes.
I must say it was not as expected.
I think it's a good ski.
I'm pretty keen to do that first spine thing, if you guys aren't too keen on it.
I think I'm all on that side of the gully.
Yeah.
Do you think that, for example, going semi cross-court off that,
that you could basically jump that?
Yeah, totally.
I mean, the little rock further out.
Exactly.
Yeah, then into the tranny there.
Exactly.
Totally, yeah.
Could be like an easy skin track to step here.
I definitely don't transition as fast as those guys.
I broke out here with some vets.
Have fun.
You too, my friend.
You too.
All right.
Summit push.
It's so blind, dude.
Dude, I can imagine.
You can't see anything.
Oh, I don't really want to walk this fast, but the drone's right behind me.
I can't look like an idiot.
Nice to be up here.
Yeah.
Good luck, Krister.
Thank you.
You too.
You cannot see a goddamn thing from here.
It's a blind rollover.
Good work, sir.
Thank you, sir.
You're doing very well.
Thank you.
I think you're, yeah, look over this one.
Yeah, I think I see.
Okay, Krister dropping in 10, 9, 1.
Krister, drop.
I find Krister.
Damn, the snow is good.
And holy schmackaroni, Nico, that rollover of yours.
Also, Alex, you guys are mad people.
I want to go over the blind rollover, stay kind of right, shoot myself there,
then jump, land on the kind of shitty landing,
feel the spine, boom, boom, down, out.
5, 4, 3, 2, 1.
Nico dropping.
Dude.
Alex, yours looks really good.
The snow is super good.
The drone is at your takeoff.
Nico, the drone.
Copy, yes.
Dropping in 10.
Yes, dude.
Holy schmackaroni.
I thought you were going to go for like the, like around the big boy,
but you just ******* sent it.
Damn.
No, but you guys are actually like really nice people to go in the backcountry with.
A perfect level of like pushing and sending, but like also like helping.
And the way you directed me with the drone, the communication we've been having
definitely makes you feel like a lot safer to do what you're about to do.
Yeah.
And I mean, we're going to hear it in the comments if we don't do it safely.
So we're all about safety.
Okay, Krister dropping in.
What's always funny in these zones is like you find these lines that are more like
technical, harder to ski.
But often like the way home is more fun than the actual skiing in the zone itself.
There is a ******* insane, insane zone right here.
Alex is ready.
Ready for you, Alex.
Boom.
Sick, Alex.
Boom.
Seven, six.
First try, Nico.
How do you feel about that?
Oh ----.
Krister dropping in.
That was too easy, dude.
You killed it.
You're five?
Brandon.
That was huge.
What?
Oh my God.
And you're seven?
Vetle, we're not in a rush if you want to hit it.
Yeah, Vetle.
Yeah.
I want to try a seven, but I've never done a first hit seven before.
Nico's taking the drone.
Vetle, drop it.
Yeah, Vetle.
Fuck yeah, Vetle.
Second seven of the day.
I'm like riding with Alex and Virgil and all these young senders.
I think we've like done the bootcamp we need to like go up to Lingen.
And like climb actual mountains and go on adventures.
I mean, not that these mountains aren't actual mountains,
but to climb mountains with no lifts on them.
It's good.
