Lookin' for Lakes in ALL the Wrong Places: Dual Sport Exploring the Mt. Washington Wilderness

Hello everyone and welcome back to the Dorkside. Hope you enjoyed part 1 of our 3DRZ trail riding adventure. If you haven't seen it yet I'll put a link in for you. Welcome to part 2. This was a really great ride exploring some new territory. There's a lot of cool forest lakes out in the Mount Washington wilderness so we spent a bunch of time trying to find them. Some successfully some not. I really hope you enjoy it. Enjoy part 2. Best lunch. No picnic tables here. They don't want you hanging out. No loitering. It's really easy to sit just right and real gingerly on hard-ass dual sport seats on a road like this. Those are two things that come really easily. Yeah. Here we are flexing our street legal muscles. See? Street legal vehicles. No HVs. Okay. I don't give a sh**. Now we're true dual sportin' today. Got some road riding in. Discovering that chipmunks and ground squirrels look basically exactly the same. There's a sh** ton of them. If you want to go to the campground, go straight. If you want to just check out the lake and this is the road that has all those other lakes on it that I want to check out at some point. This will be a more fun ride. You can get close to the lake down here. How much to the lake do you want to get? We could walk down to it or we could go around the other side we can just see it from the road. Up to you. You worked your thing. Steve knows this area. He probably knows how to get down to it. Oh there you are. I thought you went up there. I can't believe they're open. I'd like to come camp here and ride. Yeah, we're not getting that close to the lake, I guess. There's a trail right there. The road, if you look at the map, this road just goes down. There's a bunch of little lakes and stuff. I don't know how far. I mean we're probably talking miles but I would be interested to check it out at some point. PCT. Yeah, I'm glad I didn't bring my truck up here. I'm sure it would have been okay but I don't want to be outside of definitely okay. If I had better tires, I just had a shitty street tire. I wanted to. I thought I had my wife talked into it after I had that flat but she's like, nah, it's probably a fluke thing. It'll be fine. The problem is there's 70,000 miles higher so I've only got 20 grand on that thing and I've had it for three years. Yeah, the only time it gets any miles is when I'm hauling bikes up here. God, Mount Washington looks cool. I want to get closer. That's gorgeous. Sick. This is where the camping happens. Dude, okay, I gotta come back up here. This is legit. Probably. We could twin it in here. I think I could get it up this road. I wouldn't feel really good about the sand but... You want a picture? I'm gonna take a picture of you. How about that? McElovin for scale. Yeah, fortunately it's all on video. That's pretty neat. Enhance. Enhance. Just print the damn thing. Still a fun road to ride so that's good. It's actually kind of less dusty. I can stay reasonably close. I said that and now you're kicking up a sh!tload. It says only bad a$$es allowed beyond this point. Do it. Ooh, it's sandy. Well, Steve let me pass him so I have to keep an eye on the rear. We're not hauling too much a$$. Oh, looks like it's clear up here. That's my favorite. Yeah, hitting them. Oh, I thought you were gonna air off that. Launch off it. Okay, this doesn't look terrible. I'm gonna get a good view of the mountain. Oh, wow. Good a$$. Dude, why am I ever camping not up here? Oh, dude. Red! I can't believe it's open. Not a lot of shade but I'll take it. That is legit. It's cool out here. Yeah, good. I was worried this video was gonna be a rehash of my last one up here but I didn't see any of this. Yeah, I hope that's the only money shot. If you guys want to be alone, you let me know. Sandy. I don't know, you know sandy like grease? Sandy! That's good. It forces you to stand up. It's not terrible. It's like putting a spike on your seat. Yeah, true dual sporting. Nope, got that experience. We're gonna have a little bit of technical stuff. I'm gonna hang back just a little more so I can see it. I don't know, why the heck are we not leaving? They're letting Steve leave. Well, he stops when you make a wrong turn so I'll tell you, he did it earlier. Brandenburg Shelter, one half mile. So we could do this all snowmobile trails. I'm glad I put my mask on. Wipe your camera off once in a while. Gotta get them views. Views get views. Oh, big look! I wish they were a little farther apart because when I jump one, I land on the next one. Yeah, work those thighs! Oh, bye master. Stick your legs, stick your butt out. Well, yeah, big wide smooth. You probably feel pretty confident crushing it. Those dust clouds are legit. They just hang, they don't dissipate. This stuff is so light. That's gorgeous. Get some explorers in. Not boring like a trail riding video. Man, every time I try to sit down, the whoops are like, nah, you will stand up sir. I came to ride motorcycles, guess what we're doing. I'm usually a slow one, so it's kind of nice. No, don't say that. That'll get me in trouble. Oh yeah, I got a little technical shenanigans. Not too bad. This will be fun to come up. I mean, I have an app that would tell me. I just don't want to stop and look at it all the time. I'd prefer to just ride and see where we end up. Until we're like, okay, wait, where are we going? Which, you know, like right now. Is that your Amazon hydration pack, by the way? How's that treating you? Yeah, that'll happen. That's a good thing. The soil is unique. I knew a girl like that once. Oh, get some cinder. Cinder usually means main road. Yeah, they're going slow. Do they think I'm giving them one finger? Like, do they not know that's a signal? I can't believe there's no camping. It was swamped. I don't think, I wasn't up here on a weekend. It was like a Tuesday. I don't know. I wonder if it was a big group, maybe all together. But I kind of feel like if you came up during the week, if one of the first spots wasn't available, you could just drive until you found one. I paid $20 for the whole year. I might as well use it. Weird. Okay, this is actually kind of hard to tell sometimes. Trailhead, Pacific Crest. I talked all that ---- about, oh yeah, I'll look and see where we are and I don't even know what I'm trying to get. There's Hoodoo. Okay, Hayrick Butte. That's where we were. All right, I'm taking my helmet off so I get a drink. Which means gloves, which means whole production. Oh man, sweaty inside my gloves. Who knew? It's kind of refreshing. I don't know. I don't like unknown trails, but I guess. I always say you can just turn around, but I always get myself into a spot where I can't. Yeah, is it an ATV trail? That's the question. Or is it? Yeah, it looks like it. Is there tire tracks? Oh, is it a road? Holy ----, a little technical. Yeah, if you go around, at least you can see it though. All I got is a big dust cloud and a big rock face. Oh, this is a road. Weird. Okay, that's a shitty road. Oh, I mean, what the hell do I know? I'm the last person that should be navigating. Oh, quite a shell. That'd be fun to launch off up on the way back. It's that or die. Oh, I see. Okay, the greenage makes me think we're getting closer to water. That's totally not even a scientific thing. Moses is now, or Meadow. There's a little shitty lake right here. Meadow is off to our left and behind us. So that road might go there. I don't know. But there's something right over here. It's their time of year. This is where they come in the summer and then they go to Mexico in the winter. Mariposa. Mariposa. We're definitely going away from Meadow, but it's off to the left. Dude, I need you to pick up some more dust. I can almost see the ground. Honestly, the best trick I've found on roads like this is if I ride on your back tire but in the other lane, we're okay. You can still see and avoid each other if you need to. Look at this guy. Well, now I gotta do it. This is where we were before. It's like right over there. Left. I'm just gonna start. I'm gonna start telling you the wrong way on purpose. So basically, remember before when I was like we should go back and take that other road? I was right. Don't tell my wife. She won't believe you anyway. Hold on. Hold on. Hold on. Hold on. There's a big goddamn open space right here. Like, I bet you if I could see it if I just walk up to the edge of these trees. It's gotta be right there. Yeah, I see blue. Like, the lake is right here. So definitely watch your left. At least let me look at the map, but it looks blue to me. Yeah, we are very close. Oh man, but it's right there. Look for a trail. Even a walking trail. This is where we turned last time. Maybe. Yeah, this is where we... Yeah, but so we weren't where we thought we are, but now we are. This is where I thought we were. So that means that left is going to be down here. Or we take off right through here. That looks like a road, but there's got to be access. The mountain is gorgeous. My camera is dirty. My camera is as dirty as my thoughts. Previously, they were not. This has to be it. We're pointed right at it. Man, if there's a cool campsite down here. I'm gonna come hit that up. All right, well, I'm gonna let you get a little head so it's clear how bad people need to burn their garbage. This looks like it's kind of rocky at the top. Coming left or the actual left? Yeah, what you do is you go right. It looks like there's a big rock, but it's an illusion. You'll be fine. The left is for ****. I want to make sure Steve got up the hill. I'm sure he's fine, but I hear him. I hear him. I don't know why I'm worried about him. He's a better rider than me. Just because he's taking it easy today. I'm just gonna go slow until I see it. It is on the left. You jack ****. It's now because you're thinking in your mind it's whatever you think is wrong, and so you're reversing it, but you don't actually need to. Cool campsite right here. This is why you ride the Dually Sports. And it's hard to get a car in here. Can we get the twins in here? Should we come moto camp this? Bro, holy crap, this is huge. Oh, look at that. There's easy access on the other side behind that tree. What the ****? How do you even get over there then? Here, just go down this hill. Sort of a roundabout way, but it looks like there's an easy access over there somewhere because there's like a car or something. We found a cool way in. This would be a good spot to camp though. Yeah, this is meadow. My camera's a little dirty. I'm framing the photo so you can't see the boat launch. How the hell do you get over there, I wonder? Yeah, so how did we not run across it is my point. I'm not going to want to walk back up this in my boots, but whatever. It looks something like this. Yeah, I'll get a picture of you. Hard-earned reward. Yeah, there's like 20 of these up here, these lakes. They're all over, on the map anyway. Yeah, it's all runoff. Covered up. Hey, how'd you get there? Bro, turn on me on that. I mean, no sense trying to rely on my navigation. I like this spot. I wish I could get the car in here to bring my wife. How's it look? Oh, not bad. That's not bad. Oh, this would be super muddy. I went in a tree for some reason. I think it's because I'm a dip. Is that what that cone is for? To warn you that there's a muddy section? Yeah, that's funny. Man, it's gonna be a long video. Probably two. The trail riding loop and then this exploring is in and of itself. It's a video unto itself. Oh, good jump right here. If I could see. I could see if there was a landing or not. Man, it would be interesting to ride the twin back here. It would be worth it knowing I was gonna get to something and it wasn't that far, but I think I probably would have, I could crush diamonds with my butthole. Man, I guess it's time to invest in a full motocamping setup for this bike because I know I can get it back there. Yeah. Stay left? I feel like I could go either way when we get back, man. I definitely usually head home about this time, but I also kind of feel like you haven't seen a ton of Santiam, so I don't know. I could go, I don't know. I'm really 50-50. If I go out much more, I'd probably wait very long. Left. At least that's the way out. Man, I kind of want to come back up here and just explore the lakes and stuff. Screw the OHV. Honestly, it would be neat to pop the squat, camp off the truck, and then just go right around up here. Or motocamp, but then you'd be exploring on the twin. It's some places I don't know if I'd want to take it. Yeah. Yep, I took a lot of Honda Civics to a lot of crazy places. Front-wheel drive is really nice. And having to wait on the engine right on top of them. Suspension travel is a little limited. Oh, maybe, probably a lake right there. Oh, this guy. Yeah, it looked like it. I wish I had a slow motion replay of you jumping through the dust cloud. It's probably, like, badass. Oh, this guy. I don't care, man. That's how I feel. Yeah, I wouldn't mind trying to find a couple more lakes, but... Oh, yeah. Just leave me enough to wash my face off when we get done. That's basically what the whole bottle's for. I might dump some on my kerchief. Or just stick my kerchief in the lake. I'm going to start calling it a kerchief now. Oh, my kerchief. Oh, no. I don't want to be behind this guy. I gotta go around him. Sorry, bro-tato. It was a way easier path to go off to the right, but I didn't see it until I was past it. We're also exceeding the 15 miles an hour, but I hope no cops will find out. Yeah, I'll let you guys talk us out of it. Dude, I'm dirty. My jersey's a different color. Oh, this is interesting. I took the weights off the front wheel because when I put them back on, they weren't very secure and they were kind of moving like those spoke things on a kid's bike. So, I should actually pay attention to how the balance is right now. On your right. Not your left. I don't know. It'll get old and then it'll get funny again. Just like me. Oh, see, I'm going to turn around this way. I'm like a boss. Yeah, I have a good idea of day. This was it. Look at Steve. He doesn't around. I'm gonna have to clean. Clean, clean, clean.
