Hello, Homeworthy, welcome to my Palm Beach apartment.
I'm Jonathan. Please, come on in.
We're watching Homeworthy, where we believe every home has a story.
My name is Jonathan Savage.
I'm an interior designer in Nashville and Palm Beach.
And welcome to my Palm Beach home.
So, I've lived in this home since 2021.
I bought it after I participated in the Kips Bay Boys and Girls Club show house here in Palm Beach.
When I purchased the home, it was a gut job.
It needed everything, lots and lots of love.
And it took us that entire summer to put it back to where it is today.
The building was designed by Eugene Lawrence.
The interior architect for my project was David Lawrence, his son.
And we created what we call our spa oasis.
So, the interior of my home is decorated in a neutral palette for the most part.
The two bedrooms do offer a bit of color, but not too much.
It's very savage in that way.
So, Palm Beach is one of my happy places.
My home is also a happy place.
The objects that I've chosen to be showcased inside my home
put a smile on my face each and every day.
So, when I travel, I'm always shopping.
So, you'll see in my home many things from across the globe.
Welcome to my living room.
In this overall neutral space, I began the design process
with this wonderful piece of art by George Williamson,
a South Georgia artist who I've fallen in love with.
This piece of art reminds me of a Picasso that I've seen many times.
But this iteration that George has put together
just seems to be a harmonious way for me to live.
It's a great backdrop.
It's a wonderful focal point in this space.
As you can see, my living room is quite large.
I've divided this space into two seating areas.
I have the more casual space on this end.
My sofa was an Hermes-inspired sofa made by Anissa Upholstery.
The ottoman, which is a great place to pop your feet up,
was designed with my friends at John Boone.
The two slipper chairs here are by Randolph and Hine in Los Angeles.
And this little beauty, who I love, was designed by an L.A. designer.
So, I partnered with Kimberly Dinman
to come up with two pieces on either side of the sofa.
I wanted a desk on one end for a small place to sit,
write a letter, sign a check, what have you.
The round side table has a beautiful sculptural appeal.
It's Kimberly Dinman's Athena table.
When we renovated the apartment,
I didn't want a plain, flat ceiling.
So we coffered the area to add the recessed lighting,
but yet to add an architectural detail.
The pendant lights, we have three of them,
one anchoring the dining table,
one with the daybed on the second seating area,
and then we have one here.
These are by Eric Schmidt.
They're plaster fixtures that he makes in Paris.
So in this space, I tried to keep it interesting
with a mix of fabrics,
ranging from indoor-outdoor Schumacher on the sofa,
which has a wonderful texture,
to a silk on the side chair
and another indoor-outdoor Schumacher on my slipper chairs.
So this is a favorite lamp of mine
from the Castiglione brothers, the Toccia lamp.
So for this lamp,
I love the sculptured steel base
with this graphic glass shade.
When lit at night,
has this wonderful white diffuser
that creates a shadow cast around the lamp.
Here at the bar, we partner with Downsview Cabinets
to do a factory lacquer finish on our bar.
If you are coming with a thirst,
we have something to quench it.
My favorite glasses are from Asprey
with this octopus motif.
So this is a ladder-back set of chairs
that I've owned that's been in many homes
This I bought in New York City many moons ago
and seems to be versatile and works everywhere.
Welcome to the second seating arrangement
in my living room.
I divided the space
with this beautiful Eric Schmidt console
that I found in Dallas
and we partnered it with the Vladimir Kagan Daybed.
This was found in Miami.
It's from 1977, I believe.
And two beautiful chairs from Minotti.
So the collection of things you see here
are items that I've picked up over time
during my travels.
I love this wooden bowl
from Christian Lier's showroom
and these beautiful pottery vessels
that I found in Paris.
This book stand was designed by Osseline
to showcase one of their larger books.
This book is on Bentley, the automobiles
and I feel like this is a great sculpture
while being a piece of functional art as well.
My draperies are two layers.
It's from Zimmeroda Textiles.
It has a leather banding ever so often
with a blackout draped behind.
Layers, layers, layers.
So on this beautiful Lorne Marsh easel
I have a beautiful piece of art from Joseph Albers.
This is the first pop of color
you'll find throughout the apartment.
On this bright group table
we have a fresh arrangement from Hydrangea
here in Palm Beach
partnered with a woven basket, if you will,
lidded basket, a Collier Webb small lamp
and some coffee table books.
So on this Kagan day bed
you'll see lots and lots of pillows.
This is where you'll find me resting
more often than not.
My favorite pillow is this hand done applique
that we applied to this Rubelli fabric.
So now we walk into the dining area.
My second favorite piece of art in my apartment
is this William Finlayson piece of art
that divides the two seating arrangements.
We took the colors found throughout the apartment
to create this color blocking effect.
So in our dining room
we have this beautiful null marble top table.
So I chose this oval shaped dining table
to make the space feel larger
but also for flow when friends are over.
My chairs are upholstered in indoor outdoor fabric.
So even though they're white, they are cleanable.
So here on this end of the dining room
you'll find an Hervé van der Straaten console
paired with a textured piece of art
from the Paris flea market.
A beautiful marquetry lamp
from our friends at Jerry Pear.
A pair of Eric Schmidt candlesticks
and a favorite wicker wine cooler.
The lacquer chair is from Randolph and Hyne.
So in this area we did a built in wine cooler
from our friends at Gaggenau
which gets used often
with a small display cabinet
for our favorite Richard Ginori china.
The goal for the renovation of our home
was to open up the spaces
to envelop the views of the intercoastal waterway.
We fell in love with our home in Palm Beach
due to the balcony space outside.
We have a 100 feet long of a wraparound balcony
with intercoastal views.
So now I'll show you to my kitchen,
a favorite room in the house.
In the kitchen I partnered with
Downs View Cabinets and Costantino
as well as my friends at Gaggenau
for all the appliances
and House of Roll for all of the plumbing.
We have this wonderful
Downs View textured cabinet
that I felt was necessary in my Florida home
as it felt like a bit sort of driftwoody.
With the Gaggenau appliances
we chose the coffee maker
the combination microwave oven
as well as the warming drawer
and then Gaggenau is known for their 333 oven.
Here in South Florida
we cannot have a grill outside
so we did a teppanyaki on the inside.
The hood I custom designed this piece
to conceal the hood.
It complements the door design
found throughout the apartment.
I added this wonderful ledge
to display my favorite olive oils.
So up here we did eight fixtures
to sort of create a fun environment
but yet very functional in the kitchen
where natural light was not the best.
We added these incredible fixtures
from restoration hardware.
The kitchen size isn't the largest
but yet it's very functional
and it repeats the neutral color palette
found throughout the apartment.
So now we're on the balcony in my home.
Let me show you around.
Here's where we spend a lot of time
drinking coffee early morning
or cocktails late night.
This is my favorite corner of the balcony.
So in today's world
you can put a lamp anywhere.
Even this one is rechargeable.
So in this end of the balcony
is where we spend time in the evenings
with a wonderful sunset
over the intercoastal waterway.
Here I paired a Richard Schultz furniture
with Dadeon stools
and all the texture in the world
in this wicker sculpture.
I grew up on a farm in Tennessee
where I was constantly rearranging furniture
and ruining my mom's favorite hardwood floors.
I began my design career in New York City
many moons ago at this point.
I found myself in Nashville in 2010
where I opened my firm Savage Interior Design
and then in 2021
I opened a second office in Palm Beach, Florida.
As an interior designer
I love decorating my home.
It gives me an opportunity to showcase
what is near and dear to me.
I think the best compliment
someone can give me about my home
is that when they're there
they're relaxed and having a good time.
Welcome to my foyer.
In here, MJ Atelier and I
created this flora and fauna motif
that was found throughout.
Most of the items showcased here
are items found on the island in which I live.
So in this space
I did a skinny console table from John Lyle
to give us a place to drop our keys
when we're coming or going
but yet not intrude on the space itself.
At the far end of my foyer
I have this wonderful sculpture
from Thomas Pheasant
paired on top of a lacquer pedestal.
So here we are in the primary bedroom.
In the primary bedroom
I kept the color palette neutral
with light blue gray
actually Dior gray from Benjamin Moore
and paired it with a black ceiling
and a black fan.
We did a coffered ceiling detail
to accentuate the architecture
found in the building.
My bed was handcrafted
by Randolph and Hine in Los Angeles.
It's a built-in bedside.
It's a three-panel bed
with bedside tables to match.
All of our bedding here is from Frate.
This pattern here
is from our friends at Zimmerroda.
And this is from Rubelli.
We partnered with an artist in Maine
to create these shapes
that hang so beautifully
above the headboard.
The Murano sconces are from Holly Hunt
in a black finish with black Murano glass.
This piece of art is from Ida Kohlmeier.
It's an artist I've always admired.
And it's large in scale
so it makes a pop.
Again,balancing with the window wall
opposite in the room.
This is a Christian Dior tray
with some coffee table books,
a piece of sculpture from Italy
and a few more books
and a sculpture I found in London.
When I designed the bedroom,
I wanted the space to feel serene and calming
because not many of my days
are either of those two things.
And I think we achieved that
with the color palette we chose.
So this is my primary bath,
a place I spend a lot of time,
especially early morning
getting ready for my days.
We chose a Mui wallpaper
and a texture in a soft blue pattern.
So these sconces I found in Italy
headed to the airport.
I had the driver to stop.
I got the brand and ordered four.
So my vanity,
I have wonderful roll fixtures
and a quartzite countertop
in black to accent the ceiling
from the bedroom.
Home means to me a reprieve,
a place that I can go,
spend time,
get recharged and ready for the world.
Thanks for watching.
