Inside LA’s Most Stunning $7,000,000 Spanish Revival Estate

Hi Luxury Home Show, I'm Matt. I'm Summer and today we're going to show you around this gorgeous Spanish colonial revival home on the east of Los Angeles. The estate was originally built in the 30s and has been completely reimagined by Gary and the team at Opus Builders. I can't wait to show you around. Matt, do you want to start the tour and take everyone outside? Let's do it. So as we step out onto this estate we're surrounded by tall iconic palms, not just on the property itself but the surrounding area. Beyond that you can enjoy mountain vistas from pretty much every aspect of the property. Now the exterior facade is a white stucco and there are red terracotta tiles on the roof. The entrance is set with this tranquil fountain and this European inspired cobblestone. Now the overall lot size is just under one acre and there are three main entrances. The main entrance is this ornate detailed wart iron gate that you can see here and there's another one over for the vehicles. Here we are at the electric ornate gate that you can see. So this is where you would drive through and enter the estate. There's a triple garage ahead of us with wood paneled timeless exterior doors. Now as well as these iconic palms, which are just my favorite part about this entrance, you have some beautiful landscaping. Considering the home was built in the 30s you do have a number of already established mature trees but a lot of the new landscaping that you can see has all been imported as part of the reimagination process. There's professional grade lighting throughout so in the evening the feel of this home really comes alive. There's a number of entrances adding to that in and outdoor flow that they were even thinking about back in 1930. The main entrance here you start to get a feel for the tone of the house with the Juliet balcony again with the wart iron. Now this home is listed on the market right now so as we and you want to find out any more information feel free to check out the description. If you enjoy the exterior facade of this home I think you're going to love inside. Let's go take a look. Wow Summer, what about this entrance? This is a gorgeous entrance. They've kept the original tiles there's these gorgeous green tiles which actually sort of match the kitchen. They're an interesting design aren't they? We have diamonds and squares and then they're separated by larger green tiles as part of the border. I want to also show you the tiles on the staircase. So these ones here are the original tiles and the developer wanted to add a few more down here so he used a local business in South Pasadena and matched these tiles with the original ones and all the original ones have been refurbished so they look in great condition. I just love when houses keep the original features. Absolutely. Above the tiles is another iron handrail then in terms of architectural details we have a few niches and archways throughout the home that we're going to see. Now finally in this area I think as you enter your eyes are drawn up to the exposed beams and the tall ceiling heights. Then if you look up you can see the sketchwork between each truss. Now that was original and it has just been hand drawn once again. Let's move into the open plan section. So this house is 6,800 square feet. It's five bedrooms, five bathrooms, so we have a lot to show you. This is a gorgeous living room. I like that they've added some artwork rather than a TV and it's been styled by Francesca Grace who has actually styled a few properties that we've recently toured in LA. That's right. Then we have two additional archways here with some nice ambient lighting there to really elevate your design pieces that you're going to have on display. And then also there's a wall of French doors which open all the way out so you can really have the in and outdoor living which is ideal in California. So when you see this space overall you'd imagine this was how it was when it was built but obviously in the 1930s having an open plan space like this wasn't achieved as easily. So when Gary bought this home off the previous owners this entire space was divided into several tiny rooms and it's been opened back up. So now we have the living area seamlessly connected to the open plan kitchen. I mean check out the size of this island. This island is so big. There's Taj Mahal countertops and this is the green that I said sort of matched the original tiles. You don't see many green kitchens but it's sort of reminding me of the English countryside. Yeah you see a lot of this green coming in in London. I would say it's almost like a rich olive and then it matches quite well with the Taj Mahal. These cabinets have sort of a fluted glass where you can sort of see inside but it's a little bit blurry. And then I think the chefs are going to love this one if you are into your cooking. How many gas hobs have we got here? There's a lot. There's 10 gas hobs. These are two Le Cornu ovens which is a luxury branded oven. Yeah I think it looks gorgeous as well. They've paired that with brass hardware so the pot filler here is a brass. You like the pot fillers? I do like a pot filler. And then over this side we've got the brass here. The sink has been carved out of the Taj Mahal stone and then above we have these four globe pendant lights with a white glass finish as well as the same brass that continues as we're seeing throughout the kitchen. The integrated fridge freezer is hidden through here. Let's open it up. Lots of storage as well but there is also a hidden room. Let's go in. This is a secondary kitchen, maybe somewhere to put your coffee machine or your blenders or just prepare some food for the messes in here rather than the main kitchen. I personally love when there's a little secret door. Finally in the kitchen there are six bar stalls so this space is perfect for entertaining and then to add to the pendant lightings they've actually added coving lighting all the way above the kitchen cabinetry just adding to that ambience. Now as we step over the dining space is incorporated as part of the overall plan feel and then we have a nice 10-seater table here. What's great about this space for me is although it has that timeless feel of that Spanish Revival design there is still lots of natural light coming through as well as a number of entrances to this space. So down this corridor we have an additional bedroom and an ensuite and then a garage. I'll take you through to the ground floor bedroom. This is one out of five bedrooms in total. Now you may think why have we just gone through the ensuite? Well this space could also double up as a general powder room for the ground floor although there is a powder room the other side. We have the Taj Mahal on the sink as well as the brass legs giving a nod to 20th century Victorian era design and then we have hexagonal tiles as well as the white subway tiles on the walls with the brass continuing. We then step into the bedroom which is paired back luxury connection to nature with the views to the front garden as well as a small walk-in wardrobe here. Let's head on into the garage. Alright stepping into the garage we have space for three vehicles or a number of collectibles here. They all have electric entrance doors so even from the outside it looks timeless you have that modern convenience. In the center is the S63 AMG with the iconic bi-turbo engine and check out these monoblock style alloys kind of reminiscent of Brabus or maybe Maybach and then the garage has a access door outside there as well as one of two utility rooms. So this is on the ground floor accessed nicely from the kitchen. Now I've just had a glimpse of the pool view and that has to be one of the highlights for me so stay tuned to see that you're not going to want to miss it but let's head back inside. This home is most likely going to be a family home and so within this area of Eagle Rock we're very close to surrounding Pasadena where there's tons of cultural activities to do such as museums lots of parks but we're still in close proximity to traveling towards the main hub of Los Angeles. We're back in the entrance now I'm going to take you this way there is a gorgeous room here which I'm so excited to show you but I'm going to take you down two steps into the guest powder room with original tiles there's checkerboard terracotta tiles on the floor and this gorgeous wooden window there's so much character in here look I can just open them up and have a peek outside it's beautiful and then behind the door is the Taj Mahal sink with the brass legs it just feels kind of cozy in here anyway let's head back out there's another really cool room to show you now to the right of me is another arched door here that takes you down to the basement which is really cool stick around because we will show you that I'm walking past these gorgeous sconces with glass and iron detailing there's actually two on either side of this entryway now down a few steps into this room and the owner Gary said this room was inspired by a hotel he visited in Mumbai India. I found that interesting because when I'm sat in here I feel like I could be in a Parisian salon or it has a very European intentional feel about it but I think it's brought together and feels quite timeless with the wrapped European oak that we see around the outside a lot of vintage pieces such as this chandelier and some of the others that you see around there's three French doors out to the garden and similar to the kitchen cabinets you can see the same sort of vibe with the opening here and then the glass fluted detail and then you've actually got a few more steps into I guess what's your office yeah this is your home office so the ceiling changes to a coffered design you have access to a balcony out here and I'm just enjoying being in a brand new renovation but it's feeling like so charming yeah now it's time to check out the basement where it has a real jazz like feel with a wine cellar a speakeasy it's quite interesting down here so we've got this archway door come on through we're off to the jazz club so we have a number of records displayed on the walls and they've named this space the velvet room so first off come on through I'm going to invite you into the wine room this is my favorite chair I've ever sat on I thought you'd like it I need to know where these are from because I definitely want one what about the wall colors love the burgundy on the walls you definitely don't see that often is it burgundy I was going to say plum plum yeah it's right yeah it's plum okay let's keep exploring oh I love that they've added these barrels do some wine tasting in here yeah I think it suits the style of the house that's for sure and then as well as this super burgundy or plum wall color which we can't decide which it is I think it's plum you're right let us know there is another room let's head there now back out into the we have some more records here the Beatles yesterday and today living more by Donna Summer the police sister sled we are a family okay now we're into your well it's a basement but also you can go straight outside so this is your bar they've got the Taj Mahal stone again everything that you can see in here is all completely new we have this ambient lighting this is a cool spot and I think as an entertainer's home there's a lot that you could do with this place I like that they've carried their paint on the ceiling too it gives that darker vibe and then over on this side there's another seating space the furniture is beautiful as well I love every piece that they've chose it really suits the vibe so you have this long sofa here and then come this side we have a record player yeah we can choose some here we can put them right on it's definitely feeling like a true LA home a creative home now the final moment of this space is you do actually have a gas fireplace now on a new construction in LA you can't install these anymore but being an old home it's grandfathered in so that's a nice element that you get let's take this outside I'm so excited to show you the garden I think it's my favorite part there's an iron arched gate to the front and above me actually you can see the balcony from the study which we were just in as we step to check out the garden you go onto this natural flagship stone this is a dwarf mondo grass set in between mature trees such as Chinese elm but what it's all about is just the exterior aesthetic of this incredible home it's absolutely beautiful I love the white stucco you've got the pool over there there's lots of different spaces in this garden I'm going to take you to this side first this is a half court basketball court and there did used to be a tennis court in this garden and the floodlights are grandfathered in so they can stay but I like when there's a little sports court maybe basketball or pickleball just to play around in the garden yeah it becomes what you start to expect when you enter this price range and this style of home in Los Angeles so they definitely achieve that but let's explore I do like and appreciate how the landscaping has allowed the home to have these several different moments over here is a fire pit I referenced this the love island fire pit earlier you could get a lot of the couples around here but it's pretty big just a nice spot to sit I guess and chill in the evening with some pillows yeah exactly and you get to look towards the house you see and hear the water feature over there shall we check out the water feature and pool let's go stepping up to the pool now I believe this has to be one of my favorite pool designs it has a real elevated European feel and quite a different material palette to your typical California pool in the way that rather than just having this spray concrete they have all of this amazing tile work yeah it shimmers nicely in the light as well and it's actually 14 foot deep I personally like when they do a deep pool oh yeah you can properly dive in proper mermaid swim at the bottom on this side of the pool is the hot tub and the baja shelf and on the left we have four sunbeds somewhere to relax under these yellow umbrellas which is the color of the season right now butter yellow nice description now stepping into the final area of the gardens at the back we have this nice lawn space a decent usable area and an amazing view to the back of the house overall the house sits fairly central in the overall lot so don't forget you do also have a lot of space at the front and over here obviously you can see a lot of beautiful flowers but there is also a lemon tree oh yeah which personally I love when gardens have you know lemon trees apple trees or oranges it looks like lemons and limes but that must be what lemons look like before they fully grow out yeah the green one is before it's ripened the yellow lemons with these yellow umbrellas it definitely has a California vibe now we have four bedrooms to show you so let's head back inside and go upstairs we're going to continue the tour by heading upstairs another moment to appreciate this incredible staircase now there's a Juliet balcony out here which overlooks some more iconic palms as well as these sconces that were the same ones in the now let's head up here and show you the rest of the bedrooms at the top of the staircases is another moment to check out the sketching detail and you can see it closer up here and it's a really cool touch it gives that timeless elegance but this area that we're on actually was completely redone there was a lot of work needed on this project to bring it to where it is today but I think it's come out well it's truly beautiful now I'll show you guys through here and I'll meet on the terrace in a moment I'll meet you there okay through an archway in the wall here we go past one bedroom which I'll show you in a moment there's a small storage cupboard through here but this is your primary bedroom so it has three different aspects to the outside and there's a generous bedroom in here as you can see now all of the windows have been replaced they are this timeless luxury wooden design but they are double glazed as you'd expect with a modern standard window and then from here we're going to go and check out both the dressing room and the ensuite first up the dressing room has the Taj Mahal stone as well as some nice wooden cabinetry the main event is this ensuite so you have the dual sinks over here with the Taj Mahal really generous space now for the design they've actually put a gold bathtub here in the center and that's separated by these two curved glass windows and we have one shower on this side with a niche here and another shower the other side but you know what the best part about this room is the views from outside so the trees surrounding the property but also looking beyond that real California landscape now let's show you the next bedrooms the next bedroom could be considered the nursery because of its proximity to the primary bedroom it's a generous size room with a large window overlooking the view and it does have its own ensuite each one features a different style this one has a brown subway tile and because it's more of a nursery you have the shower over the bath so ideal for kids again Taj Mahal with the brass here on to the next so if you're watching this as a family you're going to be thinking about the other bedrooms so I'll show you all of them and you can decide which would be yours next up is this guest bedroom where it has a nice position of a bed in the side and has the view out to the garden through here and then if we open this we'll notice that this could be a built-in wardrobe if you wanted to currently it's more of a storage space this bedroom is right next door currently has a wooden canopy frame bed looking straight outside to the garden as well as a walk-in wardrobe on that side come on back out each of the doors are solid wood custom doors you can see the detailing on the hinges here very similar to like a Victorian inspired detail and it's details like that that set the house apart and you can see more of them if we look up to the ceiling also like the touch that the wall plaster material is carried on to the ceiling and then talking of details come on into the main bathroom let's call this bathroom the emerald green bathroom with the tiles that you can see throughout and then we have a petal style with the marble tiling on the floor toilet nicely tucked away through here large oversized shower and a great view to the outside one of the moments I've been most excited to show you is the roof terrace here so we'll see that in a moment now this is your upstairs laundry we have the one in the garage that we talked about this is more accessible for the majority of the bedrooms and I do like the touch of a porthole style window that we can see over there let's head out here we are outside and summer have you been enjoying it I've just been enjoying the sunshine it's a sun trap out here and because you can just see the trees it's so beautiful it is really beautiful out here I think this has been a pleasure to tour this home it's a little
